Apple iPod Shuffle 2011 (2GB, silver) price range: $39.99 - $59.99

The good: The iPod Shuffle returns to its big-button glory days, only this time around it offers support for playlists, audiobooks, podcasts, Genius Mixes, and a multilingual VoiceOver feature that announces track information, battery status, and menu navigation.
The bad: The 2GB capacity can't hold much; there's no headphone remote nor radio; the track controls tend to get pinched when clipping the iPod to your clothes; and the chances of you accidentally running it through the washing machine are quite high.
The bottom line: The iPod Shuffle's buttons are back, and the lightest, smallest MP3 player on the planet is now better than ever.

CNet needs to stop drinking the Apple Kool Aid
by Metallion28 on September 10, 2010
Pros: It plays music, podcast and books
Cons: No screen means you can't look through your music and select the track or album you want. No expandable memory. Too expensive, there are better alternatives out there for the price

Summary: CNet needs to stop drinking the Apple Kool Aid and review this fairly. They need to compare it to other equivalent products on the market. I could never understand why anyone would buy this product. Remove the Apple name from the product and all you have is a over priced mp3 player with very few features that others in its class have. Take the sandisk clip: double the memory (4gb), screen for navigating your music and podcasts, expandable memory, standard mini USB, voice recorder and FM radio (so you can tune into the TV stations at the gym and listen while you work out). This is all for the same price. Apple should have made there new Nano there new Shuffle because that is what it looks like. Then I might be impressed with the shuffle. This, its just overpriced garbage that again, forces you to use crappy Itunes.

The most durable music player ever

Very good, small player
by ChacoBurger1976 on September 3, 2011
Pros: Very small
Easy to use even without a screen
Good color choices
Clips on to clothes, bag straps, etc.
VoiceOver is really good. Press it once to hear the song you're playing. Press it twice to hear the battery. Hold it to hear playlists
Not expensiveCons: When you press down the one side of the clip to put it on something you are likely to press the "Back" button, so I recommend holding down the play button until you hear a click through your headphones before clipping it on. This puts on buttonlock.
Summary: Very good, small player, and much better than the 3g shuffle and better, probably, than the 6g nano.

Can't work out with it
by consumer01 on February 23, 2011
Pros: Small. Easy to use. Big Buttons.
Cons: Broke when sweat got on it after a month. You are better off sticking with a I Pod Nano and using an arm band to workout.
Summary: Do not buy if using to workout. Choose another Ipod option.

Summary: For those who complain about storage etc etc... The point of the shuffle is to have your favorite tunes with you anywhere you go, for the cheapest possible price, while still having apple's quality. They never advertised massive storage, or a screen, if you want that then get a iPod Nano!
In the end the iPod Shuffle does exactly what is was designed to do, its actually very easy to use without a screen and it executes its function perfectly.
If you are under any illusion about its feature set then just don't buy it, and save us the complaining :)! But it you want a brilliant, wearable, cheap music player... Its Perfect! -
iPod Shuffle 2GB
by cnet729333android on November 29, 2010
Pros: Smallest MP3 player in the world, VoiceOver is easy to use, longer battery life (up to 15 hours), big button makes it easy to change songs, play, pause, etc.
Cons: Easy to lose, and 2GB of storage only holds about 500 songs. Better off getting the original shuffle with 4GB of storage.
Summary: Although a nice, small product for listening to music, it is almost too small for some, and has too small an amount of storage for most.

I liked last gen, but this gen is so much better :)
by thesimslover123 on October 26, 2010
Pros: Nice throwback to the 2nd gen design
Small AND AffordableCons: Kind of too small, so, be careful so that this does not go through the wash!!
2GB, but that is kind of expected for how small the player is, but not bad!Summary: I was a bit skeptical of how last generation was going to turn out, and, to put it quite frankly, it was a downfall (but an ok) design compared to ...
Summary: I was a bit skeptical of how last generation was going to turn out, and, to put it quite frankly, it was a downfall (but an ok) design compared to the 1st and 2nd generation design of the Shuffle.
I love the price of these! They are $49 USD for 2 gigabytes of flash memory. Overall, I think that the price point is great! Also, for such a small device, it also has a lovely amount of battery power, about 15 hours!
Onto the cons. First of all, it is a little small, so beware of it going through the wash on accident. Another thing is the size, but that is expected due to the size of the player. Not too much of a flaw, but hey, that's what it is all about, playing music
Over all, I give the iPod shuffle fourth generation model a 5 out of 5 stars. -
Voiceover makes it too easy...
by roland985 on September 25, 2010
Pros: Easy navigation means you never have to see the screen
Compact design perfect for travel and bike riding.
The Buttons are back! (though thats not really a feature, and it was fixing a big mistake)Cons: There is a high risk of accidently putting through the wash, so buy a colour that stands out from your clothes. Only 2 GB, and of course, itunes, but thats irrelevant.
Voiceover is a bit robotic at times...Summary: I bought this to replace my nokia E63's music application, as the sound quality really seem to suffer on the thing. The shuffle has really good audio quality, not ...
Summary: I bought this to replace my nokia E63's music application, as the sound quality really seem to suffer on the thing. The shuffle has really good audio quality, not even a trace of background hissing clicking or popping.
Voiceover is seamless, and it really works well. I love it, unfortunatley, if you want to sync the thing with Linux, there is no voiceover.
But it is good player and works great... -
Much better design over the 3rd Generation
by JPDX11 on September 10, 2010
Pros: The buttons are back so you can use any pair of headphones on it.
Audio is better
VoiceOver
Clip sturdiness
Beautiful anodizing
Price
Durable
Better battery lifeCons: The fact that the entire face of the shuffle is the click wheel poses a problem when using the clip since the user will hit the buttons.
Summary: The new ipod shuffle design is a big improvement over the old one. The buttons are back so you can use any pair of headphones.
Other thoughts on the shuffle:...Summary: The new ipod shuffle design is a big improvement over the old one. The buttons are back so you can use any pair of headphones.
Other thoughts on the shuffle:
The capacity of the shuffle isn't meant to be large enough to carry your entire music library. It is meant for music on the go.
The shuffle is not supposed to have a screen on it. It was never designed so that the user could "see" their music.
The shuffle is designed to be the simplest music player out on the market.
For the future, maybe Apple will work on making the battery life and VoiceOver even better. -
If good as the two 2nd gen I've owned, should be fine.
by YY-Syd on September 9, 2010
Pros: The controls and the sturdiness of the clip.
Cons: ITunes, iTunes, iTunes.

Summary: On the previous shuffles, have used non-i-Tunes software from day one. All you need with a button navigating device like this is the ability to drag and drop and order/reorder content. Not playlists and sync. If i-Tunes is the only option on this device, it will not be worthwhile.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MC584LL/A
- Description: Even the iPod shuffle clip gets the rock star treatment. Now forged in stainless steel, the clip attaches securely to your shirt, jacket, workout gear, even your backpack. And the sleek, durable, anodized aluminum case - makes iPod shuffle a wardrobe essential. You've probably made multiple playlists in iTunes. With the iPod shuffle, you can sync your playlists and always find the perfect mix for your activity or mood. VoiceOver tells you the name of each playlist, so it's easy to switch between them and find the one you want without looking. The shuffle switch has three positions. Flip it to the left, and your music shuffles for a "whatever happens, happens" flow. Flip it to the middle, and your songs play in order. Or flip to the right to turn it off.
