Apple iPod Shuffle (second generation 2006, 1GB, orange) price range: $90.00
- Reviewed by: Jasmine France

The good: The competitively priced iPod Shuffle has a dead-simple user interface with satisfying tactile controls, and its integrated belt clip provides a handy way to keep track of the player. The Shuffle is available in five, metallic colors, and the package includes a cute little syncing cradle.
The bad: The iPod Shuffle has no screen, so there's no way to navigate easily among artists, albums, or playlists. And it only offers so-so sound quality. The player might be too small for some users, and nonstandard USB syncing takes away from its plug-and-go appeal.
The bottom line: If you like your music playback simple and your device nearly invisible, the second-generation iPod Shuffle will suit you well. But absentminded users should steer clear of this easy-to-misplace player.

Great little player
by thomcarl on September 15, 2008
Pros: Typical Cnet review, hey guys it's a basic player and can be purchased as a referb for 39 bucks. If it had a screen where would you put it. If its from Apple Cnet always has a negative thought. My though is get a Zune if you don't like it.
Cons: not any that amount to a hill of beans.

Summary: That doesnt matter much to me tho, all i wanted was for me to listen to my music, just any music, i didnt really care how good. plus i know all the names of the songs so i dont need a screen. i take this around with mee wherever i go and i just listen. But its all about what u want. All the ipods are very impressive and people notice that u have it so ne of them r good. This ipod is so small, if i wore a beanie, i could put this in it and listen to music. So if u just wanta listen to music, this is what u want.
+ the clip is helpful -
Works fantastic. Exactly what I expected when I purchased it.

Pros: Reliable, long battery life, easy to use, belt clip, crisp, no screen.
Cons: I cannot find any to be quite honest.
Summary: I bought a couple of these. One for my girlfriend and one for myself. 70 a pop with free shipping and a complimentary inscription on the back.

I got the orange one and her the blue one. I can honestly say that I've used it nearly every single day since I receieved it and have fallen in love with it. It's reliable. Easy to charge, use, and cycle through songs.
The only downside for some will be that it has no screen. However, with good use of the alphabet you set it up by artist, switch to shuffle-mode and find an arist you like, then switch back to cycle-mode and cycle through that specific artists' songs. It's something to get used to.
To be honest, not having a screen is on my pros because it's less to break. I mean, you braek the screen of a video ipod or a nano and you might as well have purchased a suffle, save the gigabytes of course.
I use it for jogging and for work... Once again, it's something to get used to I suppose.
Overall, it serves it's purpose well. Play music for endless hours, or jogs.
Once I get home from a long sweaty jog I leave it on my desk to dry the clip and earphones, then place it back in the carrying case and toss it in my bookbag for later use at work.
Once again. Great item. Fair price. Great deal. -
Underrated by CNET - sorry!

Summary: Arguably, this is much better than the Zen Stone despite costing twice as much for the same storage. Having the ability to clip the device changes everything - you can just grab it and go without worrying about whether it'll be scratched in your pocket or dented in your bag, since it clips wherever you think it might be safe. And in coppery orange, you may actually want to show it off.
But the other reason for giving it an 8 is iTunes. Some accuse it of bloat, but for the shuffle it's extremely handy. You can take a completely hands-off approach and hit the AutoFill button or micro-manage by syncing with a specially-tuned smart playlist. It would be a pain to download the necessary software on dial-up -- but it's not a fatal blow, either.
Drawbacks are fairly conspicuous (disregarding the lack of a screen). You need the dock, and if you damage the iPod so that it no longer fits, you'll simply need a new iPod. And while transferring music is simple, it can take just shy of four minutes (I timed it) to fill the player top-to-bottom; that's not very convenient if you're in a rush and want new music.
But to me, the player is very honest about what it does and manages this very well. If you're looking for a second iPod or an only MP3 player for gyms and jogging, you can't get much better than this. -
Met expectations with a good price
by wellheck on March 6, 2007
Pros: Good quality sound, eye-catching while compact, good build quality
Cons: Downloading podcasts is not intuitive

Summary: I had been in the market for a portable player that had a long battery life to replace my aging first generation iPod. It turns out that I really don't listen to 20 GB of music all at once so I was in the market for something along the lines of a one to two GB player. This player has met these expectations and provides excellent sound quality. I will be honest, I am more or less married to iTunes given the fact that it would be cumbersome to burn my entire library to CDs to make the translation to a non-Apple product. However, I'm not terribly bothered by that because I have been very satisfied with the consistency and stability of this product line. I would highly recommend this to any interested reader with similar wants in a mp3 player. I do not understand, frankly, the considerably low rating that cnet gave this product. The only catch really is the issue with podcasts which have to be downloaded manually in a drag and drop approach. That's not really a big problem, though.

- Description: The iPod shuffle lets you wear up to 240 songs on your sleeve. Or your lapel. Or your belt. Clip on iPod shuffle and wear it as a badge of musical devotion. You know what they say about good things and small packages. But when something 1.62 inches long and about half an ounce holds up to 240 songs, "good" and "small" don't cut it. Especially when you can listen to your music for up to 12 continuous hours. In fact, iPod shuffle just may be the biggest thing in small. Clip it to your coin pocket. Clip it to your bag. No matter where you clip your skip-free iPod shuffle, you'll have instant access to music. Put it on, turn it up, and turn some heads. The first step to wearing 240 songs is downloading iTunes. Then drop your iPod shuffle into the dock, plug the dock into your Mac or PC's USB port, and sync in minutes. Got more than 240 songs? No problem. Let iTunes autofill your iPod shuffle and get a new musical experience every time.
