Simply Outstanding.
by TheHitman2009 on September 10, 2010
Pros: HD Video Recording, Camera, Microphone, Fast, Long Battery Life, Amazing Apps, and much more
Cons: A flash/light would have been nice for low light shooting/pictures. GPS is needed. Nothing else.

I recently purchased an third-generation IPod Touch, and upgraded it to the 4.0.2 firmware, after the update, I noticed my battery life was decreasing quite rapidly. So I read some reviews and they stated that after other users upgraded to 4.0.2 they too where having battery woes. So finally 4.1 was released, and I hope the battery issue would be fixed. Unfortunately it was much worse. The battery would maybe only last 2 hours tops. Now I could have just been a defective battery, but seeing as that many people with the IPod 3G was having the same sort of issues, I thought it was best to return the IPod back to the store. The I bought this IPod. End of side story... on to the review.
HD Video Recording: I love the 720p video recording on this little device. And the fact you can upload directly to YouTube is a big plus.
Camera: To spite being low-res, I think the pictures you take with this IPod are amazing. Low-Light is a issue do to the lack of a flash or light, I wish they added that.. but I am sure it would put more of a strain on the battery.
Microphone: This mic can pick up sounds from far away, and it is great for all those fun apps you can download.
Fast: The IPod Touch 4G is by far the fastest I have every seen. Apps download at amazing speeds, load at even faster speeds, and the over all performance is amazing.
Long Battery Life: The battery life is a big deal to me, so I was beaming when I started to play around with this. I played for nearly 6 hours, taking videos, playing games, using the mic, and basically giving the IPod all it?s got and the lowest the battery has been was 41% and the varies from app to app.
Amazing Apps: I am able to download some great apps, now that this IPod has both a camera and built-in mic.
The only downsides to this IPod (if I had to pick) are there is no flash/light for low-light shooting, but then that would put lots of stress on the battery life.. so maybe it?s a good thing.
No GPS. It would be nice to take a picture somewhere and it state where the picture was taken, like it does on the IPhone.
All and all this is one amazing little device. Far better then any IPod in every way.

love the microphone!
by calico1000 on September 8, 2010
Pros: Loving the mic, now if I can't get a Verizon iPhone I can lose the BB, buy a MiFi, & use itwith Skype! Also like up to 64GB of data. That has the iPhone beat! My music alone runs 20GB, add in podcasts, books, TV & movies, & 64 GB is needed!
Cons: No flash and no back high res still camera is a problem, and it does need GPS, but those are the only problems I see. I LOVE my 3rd Gen and this is soooo much better!
Summary: Love the fact that because there is a mic, I can lose my hated BB Storm if there is no Verizon IPhone soon and switch to a Verizon 3G wifi ...
Summary: Love the fact that because there is a mic, I can lose my hated BB Storm if there is no Verizon IPhone soon and switch to a Verizon 3G wifi hub and use it with Skype to replace my cell phone and get service when there is no free wifi around! To me that mic is a big deal. As is the storage capacity. I have the 64 GB 3rd gen Touch and it barely holds what I want on it now. The iPhone storage capacity is sadly lacking and this really is better than the iPhone in that respect! I checked out the Android, and it's nice, but not being able to sync iTunes to it kills it for me. The editors were right on target rating the new Touch!

Revolutionary MP3 player, will go down in history.
by AppleFan2958 on December 10, 2010
Pros: Thin and much more sleek than previous iPod Touches.
Built in Camera is a nice touch.
Gamecenter is a genius addition.
Screen is incredible. HD quality, you won't find such a brilliant picture anywhere else.Cons: Very delicate, must handle with immense care.
Camera has no flash, creating a low resolution picture.
Battery life is questionable.Summary: When I got this iPod, I didn't think it would be much different from the 3G or 2G. But I was impressed. Apple very much outdid themselves. For $299, ...
Summary: When I got this iPod, I didn't think it would be much different from the 3G or 2G. But I was impressed. Apple very much outdid themselves. For $299, you get what you pay for and more. Steve Jobs was not joking when he said that this was the iPhone without a contract. If you love the iPod Touch, you may end up with an iPhone, as I did. Enjoy this fine, fine addition to the ever expanding MP3 player history that Apple Incorporated has pioneered.

I love it!
by taubull1965 on October 3, 2010
Pros: More storage space (32,64GB,) facetime, camera and videorecorder features are fun, touchscreen is still very responsive, screen resolution is brighter.
Cons: No built-in hot spot or, wireless next gen network.

Summary: I previously owned a 16 GB 2nd gen iPod touch so, I'm playing catch-up with this 4th gen. unit. Initially purchasing it because I needed more memory to hold more songs and movies, and, discovering that it was sold out at a lot of local retailers piqued my curiosity about the new touch even more. I went to Apple's website, saw the new features, and went to their store the next day to pick one up. My friends are going crazy because of the video msgs that I send them and I love facetime. While I primarily used my iPod for music and movies, I will start using the other features such as weather, stocks, etc. more frequently again. I also will start exploring the apps store much more frequently again because I have more room. The only item that I would like to see Apple add to the touch in the future is either a built-in hotspot or, 3G, 4G, or, whatever the next gen network will be. I know that smartphones in general are containing more and more features that are found on top line MP3 players and, there are pocket-sized 1080p HD videorecorders on the market but, for the time being ,anyway,I still love a dedicated, stand-alone MP3 player. You can do a lot worse than the iPod touch. To me, it is worth the CNET Editor's Choice designation.

one word: amazing.
by zunerboy on October 11, 2010
Pros: Apple really outdid themselves with this year's iPod Touch. the Retina display, 3 axis gyro, dual cameras, and revamped design, along with all the features we've come to know and love from the iPod Touch all work amazingly!
Cons: you will experience a few app crashes, especially from apps not yet updated for iOS 4. the camera's picture taking abilities are far from amazing, although they will suffice. I did notice a bit of screen flickering, although it may just be my device.
Summary: I would strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a well rounded media experience. Videos look simply beautiful on the iPod, and while the display may still not be up ...
Summary: I would strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a well rounded media experience. Videos look simply beautiful on the iPod, and while the display may still not be up to par with the Zune HD, you would be hard pressed to notice the difference. The addition of the app store makes sure you will never run out of entertainment.

by X-sync on September 20, 2010
Pros: Front & Back facing camera for snapshot & recording, gyroscope, FaceTime, Game Center, Wi-Fi 802.11n support, retina display, microphone, voice over, basically a slimmer iPhone 4.
Cons: No 3G option, camera less than 1 megapixel, no LED flash.

Summary: This iPod Touch is amazing. It can basically replace your iPhone if you don't mind giving up your cellular plan. I bought one for gift to my brother and now he can call my iPhone using skype (I don't have an iPhone 4, so retina display does not work). The screen compared to my iPhone 3GS looks super clean and detailed. I almost wanted to keep it for myself, but I am planning to get the iPhone 4 soon, which has a better camera with LED flash. Overall, buy it if you need a phone plan.

Would never buy an iPod Touch again
by bandirector on December 27, 2010
Pros: An elegant looking and feeling product
Cons: The interface with iTunes is flawed in Windows 7. Apple has not spent the time to solve problems of communication between iTunes and the iPod.

Summary: I've spent way over an hour with Apple Tech Support on the phone exhausting their expertise on solving the sync problem(s) between my iPod Touch 32 and iTunes. In order to get a replacement for the iPod that they felt was not functioning it was necessary to travel over 50 miles to an Apple Store where the promised a replacement for my iPod would be waiting and was not available. Instead I was given a used "but repaired" iPod that has the same problem interfacing with iTunes.
I'm totally disgusted with Apple's tech support and customer service and I've owned ALOT of Windows computers, several MP3 players, and four Macs and never been this frustrated with a computer or manufacturer before.
I recommend you do not purchase an iPod Touch at this time until Apple spends the resources to work out their software problems.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MC544LL/A
- Description: iPod touch has an all-new design that makes it the thinnest, lightest, most amazing iPod touch ever. Holding one is all the proof you need. With its curved design, iPod touch is now a mere 7.2 millimeters thin. Its engineered glass front and stainless steel back feel sleek and smooth in your hand. Turn it on, and you're instantly blown away by the brilliant Retina display. iPod touch is the perfect combination of stunning design and revolutionary technology - brilliant from the outside in. There are lots of reasons you won't want to take your eyes off the iPod touch. The 960-by-640 backlit LCD display, for one. It packs 326 pixels per inch, making it the highest-resolution iPod screen ever. To achieve this, Apple engineers developed pixels so small - a mere 78 micrometers across - that the human eye can't distinguish individual pixels. Even though you can't see them, you'll definitely notice the difference. Text is remarkably sharp and graphics are incredibly vivid. The Apple A4 chip is behind, or rather underneath, all the fun you can have on iPod touch. Apple engineers designed the A4 chip to be a remarkably powerful yet remarkably power-efficient mobile processor. With it, iPod touch can easily perform complex jobs such as multitasking, editing video, and placing FaceTime calls. All while maximizing battery life. And fun. iPod touch just learned some new moves. It includes a built-in three-axis gyroscope. When paired with the accelerometer, the gyro makes iPod touch capable of advanced motion sensing such as user acceleration, full 3D attitude, and rotation rate. Translation: More motion gestures and greater precision for an even better gaming experience. iPod touch captures video with two built-in cameras. It shoots amazing HD 720p video from the back camera. And with its advanced backside illumination sensor, it captures beautiful footage even in low-light settings. All while the built-in microphone records conversations, music, or any audio at the same time. And on the front of iPod touch, the built-in camera is perfect for making FaceTime calls and shooting self-portraits. It's surprising how much fun can fit into something so small. When you put your finger on iPod touch, how does it just start doing what you want it to do? It's a chain reaction, really. The Multi-Touch display layers a protective shield over a capacitive panel that senses your touch using electrical fields. It then transmits that information to the Retina display below it. So you can glide through albums with Cover Flow, flick through photos and enlarge them with a pinch, zoom in and out on a section of a web page, and control game elements precisely. FaceTime on iPod touch lets you hang out, catch up, and goof off with friends in an entirely new way. With just a tap, you can see what your friends are up to - literally. Witness a prank in action. Or watch your friend on the other side of the country crack up at your stories from last night - iPod touch to iPod touch or iPhone 4 over Wi-Fi. And all you need to get started is an Apple ID and an email account. You can choose an email account you already have or, if you prefer, set up a new one. You'll never see fun the same way again.
