Creative Zen V (4GB, black) price range: $299.98
- Reviewed by: Jasmine France

The good: The Creative Zen V offers a cute, pocket-friendly design without sacrificing screen real estate, and the vivid OLED display is viewable from any angle. The player packs in some nice features, such as voice and line-in recording, photo playback, and compatibility with subscription WMA tracks. Oh, and the sound quality is great, too.
The bad: The Creative Zen V's joystick is really small and has a cheap feel to it, and we wish Creative had included all the buttons found on the Vision:M. The screen is difficult to see in bright sunlight, and there's no UMS support. Also, you don't get the FM radio and video playback found on the Plus version.
The bottom line: The Creative Zen V is a good choice for anyone looking for a compact flash MP3 player with recording features and great sound quality. However, the more feature-filled Zen V Plus is a better value.

Great Flash-based MP3 Player
by BayleQuek on June 26, 2006
Pros: Very small size, brilliant screen, long battery life, improved navigation
Cons: No separate charger, requires administrator access on computer, no true video playback

Summary: At long last, Creative has a small flash-based MP3 player with a decent screen size, all without compromising on any of its features. I love the screen and the improved navigation (you can't get much better without a scroll wheel), as well as the long battery life (I got a playback time of at least 10 hours). The one thing I didn't like about it was the lack of proper video playback - you can't load hour-long shows to watch on the go, but you can load short clips.

Summary: Bought this player to replace Creative's Nano Plus player, which had just died on me after not more than 40 hours of use over ten months. This one died after only two days. Will not respond, turn on or reset. I guess that will be my last Creative product. Look elsewhere if you want something that actually works.

Summary: Player 'freezes' when scrolling through clips too quickly. Reset button fixes issue temporarily, but even this stops working after awhile. Based on web-searches I did trying to resolve problem, this is a *very* common issue with this player. So irritating when you're at the gym or out for a walk.
Awkward, marginally intuitive user interface.
Small size does not make up for troublesome 'freesing up' issue. Would not recommend to afriend. -
GREAT Audiobook Mp3 Player
by bluesnut on April 5, 2008
Pros: Just the right size not too small not too big, Not too bad battery life either.
Cons: Screen scratches easy, center toggle button so so, NO accessories available.

Summary: I have owned this mp3 player for a year and a half. I love audiobooks and this was one of only a few that my libraries website recommended to work. I have absolutely enjoyed it. I can fit like three 15 hour books on it. You can bookmark your place and come back too it.
If you try to fast forward or rewind too much or too fast it can freeze on you but is easily reset and you don't loose anything.
If I had one complaint it is that you cannot charge it with any ac or dc charger that is universal. You have to either charge it from your PC or buy a charger from Creative.
My other complaint is that there are no cases or accessories that you can just pick up at your local store that fit it or are made for it. I found one case at Wal-Mart but now they don't even carry it anymore. If you don't buy an ipod then you are just SOL as far as accessories and chargers are concerned.
Over all I LOVE it and would buy again or recommend. -

Summary: I think you get a good product for the price. I did comparisons with the Ipod nano and found that the creative zen has pretty much the same options for half the price. The sound is great and its very compact and user friendly. You also get the options of customizing your viewing screen with different colors which I think is a nice added touch. But i would recommend getting a better set of earbuds or head phones.

Summary: im pretty excited. and thats after i broke up with my chick, ahh... splurging is bliss. i hit a little rough patch getting it online but my computers' pretty old. nothing some new pluggins, some firmware and some reboots didn't solve. no freeze ups yet, it's been two weeks, when the zen micro was on it's last leg it had a tendency of freezing up.
