Summary: I bought this unit back when CNET first reviewed it, and thought it was great then. I just wanted to note here that CNET's review is outdated due to subsequent firmware updates by Samsung. My unit shipped with firmware v1.6 and is now up to v2.45. Every new firmware release includes new features and refinements. My battery life is now up to a whopping 44 hours!! The unit now has UMS only mode as well as MTP, supports album art and sync'ed lyrics, a seven band custom EQ, supports OGG format, gapless playback, a 24 hour clock, and an on-the-go playlist. The touchpad sensitivity has also greatly improved, although navigating zoomed photos is still hit and miss. It also comes in a 1 Gig flavor. I highly recommend this DAP. I use it mainly (for 6 months) while working in a dusty, dirty environment and have yet to kill it. Very durable.

It's quality, sounds so much better, if volume is what you seek, it has it plus the ear killing zone. I'll give my wife my Sandisk and get me the Samsung - Even over an iPOD Nano seriously.

Summary: Well... not really. I had my doubts about this player when I first looked at it.I thought it was just another attempted to bring down the IPod. Which it is. And frankly, that's what makes this player a joy to have!
I've owned this player for almost... two weeks now? And am enjoying it everytime I hold it, and put the 'phoens in my ears. Overall I think this is better than the Nano: bigger screen, non-scratch prone, better battery life, better sound, and a more photo friendly and compatible player. Although this player is missing some key features, which would have surely devistated the Nano, at least to me. FM tuner/recording, video playback (not really a must have, though).
This player needs mroe ticks. I found that it only had, dunno maybe 30 ticks. You know when you access a volume option on ANY player and it displays volume 'ticks'. Not sayign that is a bad sounding player. It's definaetely a great sounding player, but that was just something I found in comparison to my previous iRiver iFP790, with 40 ticks. Just thought that perhaps it could have been louder. Nothing to bawl about though. On the left side, there is nothing, just the continuous metal finish that goes around the circomference of the player. Top: Hold switch and Ear jack, Bottom: Proprietary connector and a rarely seen Reset Button. Up to now I haven't seen any accessories for this series of mp3 players yet, or very little. No AC Adapters yet for charging of the battery withotu a PC. By the way, it takes about 4 hours to charge, or so the manual says.
As you probably know, the player needs WMP, so MAC users are out of luck. Sorry
. Using it is fairly simple, but I had my bad, no, terrible moments with WMP. It's not the player I'm compalining about, just WMP. If you know how to use WMP well, and are used to it, you'll enjoy greatly putting data on the player.
Well, that's it. I highly reccomend this player against the Nano, and if you have that money, and really want a full feature set, (though I highly doubt you'll have the memory to enjoy),get the SAndisk Sansa e200, which is also scracth-proof, à la Nano, which is definaeatly not!
Peace,
Mm01

Summary: The headphones that come with the unit sound terrific and for most users will probably be all they will ever need. I had a hard time keeping them in my ears. Ordered a set of Shure earbuds to cure problem. Read many complaints about control panel sensitivity and it is very sensitive, but after a day of use it was not a problem. Great Sound, perfect size and capacity, Instantly recognized by my PC and worked well with both Windows Media Player 10 and Rhapsody,
Updated
I was already pleased with this player, but the addition of Windows Media Player 11 and the new Urge music service were like the finest butter cream frosting added to an already delicious cake!

Summary: The Samsung YP Z5 is a quite viable alternative to joining the Pod people. It has decent sound, a comparable feature set to the IN, and the battery life kicks a**. The feel of it (casing, buttons etc) makes it seem more robust than the IN. A few drawbacks: the screen, although larger than the IN, doesn?t have as high a resolution, making pictures look pixilated. It is also hard to read in daylight. The scroll square is finicky: large blunt fingers like mine have a hard time navigating the touch-sensitive parts. The finish, although metal, scratches easily. And most annoying to me: many albums of my music collection are DJ mixes, with no gaps between tracks. The player puts a ?bump? between tracks, whether there or not. This is probably be a firmware issue, and fixable. Also I could have used a FM tuner, a feature standard on most flash-based players.

Pros: Menus are easy to use and everything is easy to figure out.
Cons: Earphones do not stay in ears while running. Foam covers come off and are lost often.
Summary: Overall this is the best MP3 player I have had and my 5yr old can use the basic functions.
