The good: The SanDisk Sansa Fuze is supercheap and nicely compact; it comes in a variety of colors and has an expansion slot that accepts microSDHC cards. The player offers a variety of desirable features such as an FM tuner, Rhapsody DNA integration, photo and video support, a voice recorder, and FLAC and OGG playback. Plus, the battery life for both music and video is very good.
The bad: The Sansa Fuze uses a proprietary dock connection, the interface is blah, and the screen has a dingy look to it.
The bottom line: The SanDisk Sansa Fuze is a great value; a slim design, a simple interface, plentiful features, memory expansion capability, and solid sound quality all come with an easy-to-swallow price tag.

Almost perfect
by Brian71489 on April 6, 2008
Pros: Very cheap, seems to be durable, expandable memory, and sansa fixed the bugs from previous models
Cons: You have to use Sansa Media Converter to convert videos, very boring menu screen

Summary: Sansa has finally done it. I just picked up the 8 gig version of the fuze for 129.99 and its well worth it, this is way better than ipod for many reasons, but mainly because expandable memory. I played through just about all of my music (roughly a gig) without any problem. Sansa fixed all of the bugs that were on the older models, and the fuze is just about perfect. Sansa>Ipod

I have had 2 of these, great only short term....
by Ceci25 on February 16, 2011
Pros: I LOVE love love the simplicity. The menu is easy, it doesn't take long to charge, it's pretty sturdy (I tend to drop things often) and the wheel worked great.
Cons: The MP3 was lovely for about 4-6 months, then it started failing. I would get a fuzzy or white screen, the volume would rise by itself (REALLY! I had it on mute and it still was too loud for me). The menu and wheel buttons started malfunctioning...
Summary: All in all, I would not get this again. Not the best quality at all. Great as a gift for the kids as a first MP3, but not as a ...
Summary: All in all, I would not get this again. Not the best quality at all. Great as a gift for the kids as a first MP3, but not as a long use user as myself would ever buy again. I don't recommmend it. It's a bummer too, considering the price.

Great at first, but sucks after about 120 days
by usmctanker242 on March 7, 2010
Pros: Easy to use, good sound quality, video's were nice and crisp. Good price too (bought x-mas 2008 for $100 from Best Buy)
Cons: Quality is a bit lacking. I've had 3 so far, 2 worked good for about 3-4 months and then broke down, one the wheel stopped turning, the other the battery is 100% dead. The other one was a refurbished piece of **** replacement that never worked.
Summary: Bought my first Sansa 4GB Blue a while back, worked great for a few months, then the wheel completely locked up, wouldn't spin at all. Contacted Sansa. I sent ...
Summary: Bought my first Sansa 4GB Blue a while back, worked great for a few months, then the wheel completely locked up, wouldn't spin at all. Contacted Sansa. I sent it back (at their expense) they sent me what they said was a new one. When I got it, it was a refurbished piece of ****. The screen was bowed, like a bubble, instead of flat. It didn't charge, and didn't work. After an hour or so the whole thing physically fell apart. Contacted Sansa again, and after an investigation (they accused me of destroying it for some reason) which took about 3 weeks, they sent me another one. This worked good for a bout 5 months, but now the battery is 100% dead and even after charging for 3-4 hours, when it says it has a full charge, I unplug it from the computer and when I turn it on, it says "System unable to start, battery too low".. I'm currently trying to get a hold of them for another replacement, although I had to cut my losses and buy an Ipod Nano 8GB as a suitable replacement. VERY HAPPY with the IPod and that's what I would recommend if you don't want any of these Sansa hassles.

Great player for a first time MP3 user
by allthatjazz42 on April 18, 2009
Pros: Great sound experiance. Easy to load, easy to use. Additional card slot for more memory, Radio, Sizs and controls response. I more than got my moneys worth with this player. Music can come from any service
Cons: Instruction cards were not very helpful, I logged onto the Sansa site to get a full description of the options, controls etc.

Summary: I waited a long time to buy one of these being an old time big box user and I am really happy with the FUZE. So many tech gadgets these days are more effort to use than they are worth. The FUZE is not one. Also, I really have to recommend the sound qualityt again. I have partial hearing loss and I am hearing sounds I have not heard for a long time with this player.

My preferred upgrade from the iPod Nano 3G
by reviewboy47 on April 2, 2009
Pros: Expandable via SDHC; regular firmware updates add functionality; FLAC and Vorbis support; supports podcasts and Audible/Overdrive audiobooks; good price; helpful and fanatical community; improved HS/SW UI from e200 series; good form factor
Cons: video requires conversion; screen too small for extended viewing (on my older eyes); scroll wheel less responsive than iPod Clickwheel; slow refresh when SD card installed; 4000 song limit for shuffle; no replaceable battery
Summary: I have a Sansa e260R, which I liked overall but was frustrated by some of its quirks. The Fuze addresses most of them..

Size: comparable to the Nano 3G. A bit heavier than the Nano, but substantially lighter than the Sansa e260. I like the form factor.
Controls: I'm comfortable with the Nano controls, so the Fuze's similar navigation is welcome. Differences are in many ways an improvement: hold the wheel left/right to fast forward or reverse. The Home button lets you get quickly to the main screen. I can still move more quickly to the areas I want via the Nano, but the Fuze interface is growing on me. I like that the headphone jack has been moved to the bottom of the device, but am less happy that the microphone was moved from the top to the left side, below the card slot.
Features: the Fuze touts features the iPods lack, most prominently the FM tuner/recorder and voice recorder. I confess I don't use either features that often, but when I need it, I'm glad I'm prepared. The microphone on the Fuze is less well positioned than on the e200 but it serves. Where the Fuze shines for me is format support: MP3, WMA, FLAC, OGG, Audible, Overdrive audiobooks. The FLAC lossless support and Audible formats 4 and AAX are particularly welcome. The audio quality? Fantastic.
Expandability: A draw of the Fuze is its support for MicroSDHC cards. As chip prices fall, the player can be greatly expanded at minimal cost. I have the 8Gb model, and bought an 8Gb chip for under $20. This gave me a 16Gb player for half the cost of the Nano 4G. As prices of 16Gb and 32Gb chips fall further, the benefits of the card slot increase. The downside is twofold. The player has a 4000 track database limit (to be corrected in an upcoming firmware update), and the player takes a long time to refresh after connecting to a PC if a card is inserted. The iPod does not have this issue at all...but the iPod is not expandable.
Other pro/con features: You can delete files directly on the Fuze, which is nice, but flawed. Like the much more expensive and powerful iPod Touch, you can delete files directly on the Fuze; unlike the Touch, though, deleting takes several seconds, and (more importantly) there is no indication on screen what file you're deleting. These can be addressed in firmware updates, and may well; Sandisk has been terrific about providing frequent and substantive firmware updates.
Another iPod feature I'd love to see on the Fuze is a "new" flag for podcasts I haven't yet listened to (the little blue dot), and more detailed information in the cast list about each episode: episode ID, air date, etc. It's a small thing, but I've found it very helpful when managing podcasts on the iPod.
Like the iPod Nano 3G and 4G, the Fuze can play video, though you have to use the supplied Sansa Media Converter to make the video compatible. I'd bought the Nano 3G because of its video support, but quickly found the screen size too small to view longer video comfortably. Some don't mind the screen size, but I've found the iPod Touch to be the smallest comfortable size for video...and the Sony PSP even better. But if your eyes don't mind it, the Fuze video is sharp and bright and watchable; it's by far the best video player for the price.
Apple seems be pushing its iPods as gaming machines, even the Nano. Frankly, while it makes sense on the impressive iPod Touch, the Nano is not a good game machine. The Fuze does not have games on it. I consider this a plus. It's a superior audio player and recorder; I consider things like video and games to be a distraction from its greatest strength. But reasonable minds may differ.
It's easy to complain about the Fuze for a couple of reasons. First, Sansa is very responsive; a number of enhancements have come directly from user feedback, so it pays to speak up. Second, for such an inexpensive device, it offers features that blur the line separating it from higher-end products. What's notable is not that it does this or that less well than the iPod Touch, but rather that it can do it at all, and for a small fraction of the price.
I recommend the Fuze without reservation. -

Love the unit and the long battery life
by skincarenut on January 11, 2009
Pros: Great sound. Good size and over all dimensions. Love expansion port for micro cards. Fabulous buys out there. Got mine off a TV sales channel for less then $70 (tax and shipping with a free micro 4 mb card included)!
Cons: Looking for other ways to charge it then the cable that came with it (USB) so I could charge it in the car if needed. Nothing great with the display, but come on, for the price..it's amazing and good color.
Summary: Super for anyone who just cannot or won't pay the price of the i-pod...and it's much easier for us with limits due to PC vs. Mac. Perfect ...
Summary: Super for anyone who just cannot or won't pay the price of the i-pod...and it's much easier for us with limits due to PC vs. Mac. Perfect for the MP3 novice as well as for the well experienced. Got mine off a TV selling channel for under $70 including tax/ship and it came with a micro 4MB card as well! Could not beat that price anywhere. Very happy and would not purchase the next silver line up with 8MB when you have 4 and an expansion already in this one!
