Pros: Nice design, sturdy body when closed, mp3 cd read times, battery life
Cons: Not so sturdy lid, included headphones weak, no lcd backlight

Summary: This is quite a good cd player. I ordered mine direct from sony for 60 bucks. 5 dollars tax and 10 dollar fed ex one day, grand total came to 74 buckeroos. The cd player itself is sleeker than I thought. The menus are easy to go through once mastered. The parametric equalizer is a nice function but the headphones aren't too hot. Distortion with these is pronounced on the low frequency end at high volumes. But at normal listening volumes, these headphones are decent. I would reccomend the Sennheiser PX100 headphones as an excellent compliment to this cd player. The on battery op is excellent. I've gotten a good 22 hours so far. Navigating folders and such is easy as well b/c of the dedicated buttons. Overall sound quality with my sennheisers are excellent. The remote is lightweight and feels kind of fragile. There is absolutely noskipping present and it is impossible to make it skip. The g protection works without a flaw. The enhanced "clear bass" has three levels for your needs and doesn't provide any distortion when cranked. The unit itself is light and the fact that the battery is located within the player is a great feature if your afraid of battery lid problems. The hold button is on the bottom of the player which makes it quite easy. The built in amp is plenty to drive my sennheisers. Again, the sound quality will really depend on your headphones. The load time for a loaded mp3 cd is about 9 seconds which is quite impressive. There is the occasional bit of lag between switching through tracks manually but no lag whatsoever through auto next track. Be warned that this cd player does require some menu navigation for the simplest features such as bass increase. This player is made in china but build quality is excellent. The spring action that opens the lid is pretty powerful. The open button for the lid is located on the side. The hinges for the lid are strong plastic. Multisession discs do play on this. Stereo separation is excellent as well. You also get 5 free music downloads from the sony connect store on this model. I personally will not utilize the atrac 3plus feature simply because I can't stand proprietary formats and those atrac discs will play in compatible devices only. The point where the battery is located juts out at the bottom so the cd player really isn't as thick as noted. As with most models, the headphones may plug into the remote or actualy model. One more thing about the headphones, the cord is quite narrow and conductor wear is destined to occur. Fortunately, the remote cord is much thicker so that shouldn't occur there. There is quite a bit of spin up through out playback to prevent skipping so this does periodically make random motor noise during listening. I am not going to use the 7 language function. Playback is pretty good. If no id3 tag is present, the file name is listed. For normal cd-da, file names are also listed. The kbs is also listed for mp3's. The spin up noise is pretty irritating for this and most sony's out these days. That high pitched pig squel that occurs every now and then. The volume control is not numerical but in a ipod bar like style. There is no dial for the volume but buttons that double as navigation buttons. Searching an mp3 cd can be done with out changing songs with a dedicated "search" button. The battery meter is also very accurate thank god. So no surprises with sudden drops from 4 bars to 1(I'm talking to you motorola!). I hope this review or plethora of information helped you make a decision on your purchase.

good look, nice features but too sensible

Pros: Elegant, very pratical and intuitive, long life time with one LR6 battery only, good sound quality, titleling function, lot of usefull options, the price

Summary: I have been straightaway seduced by this player. It look is very attractive : sober style, large 3l. display, big buttons. It's just a little bit thick due to the electronics on the top and the battery which makes its a little hump. What I really like is that it very practible. You can navigate into the folders of your mp3 CD, see the title when recorded and directly access to the song you selected. It has a lot of usefull options : you can bookmark your favorite songs and find them in a separate folder. There is a timer to fall asleep, different play modes and 3 bass levels. The equalizer for me is a gadget and rather distorts the sound. The sound quality is quite good. It has a good balance in general. With the bass option, the bass are a little bit "hard" and lack of depth. I have been disappointed with some of my mp3 CDs (maxell) because it has some difficulties to read them. It easily jump if your CD is a little bit dusty. Sometimes it skips the end of the track and go to the next one. I change it with a new one and has the same defect. It's not very nice and it's the main cons of this player. I also bought the CT520 mp3 player of Panasonic in the same range of price. It has a better sounds quality (more pure) and doesn't scrap my songs. The 3D sounds a little bit metalic but the XBS is amazing. It needs one extra battery for an impoved autonomie of almost twice for mp3 play. It is thiner than the Sony. On the other hand there is no titleling and screen which makes its less practible. The buttons are small, fragile and on the edge of the play ... not a very good idea from Panasonic. To conclude I would say chose the Panasonic for the sound quality and Sony for its practible side. Nothing is perfect in this world ...
