- Bottom Line:
- The entry-level Canon Pixma MP160 is a decent all-in-one printer for the price, but don't be tempted by the entry-level machine: the Pixma MP180 costs a mere $10 more and provides the same print quality and a ton more features.

Does it's job

Pros: Easy, fast, and quiet
Cons: Not the greatest for photos

I tried printing a photo with the MP160 one time, just to see how it would do. Just as I had expected, the photo quality was pretty terrible. I use the Canon iP6600 for photos (and it is AMAZING...). Do not rely on this printer for photos.
The scanner has been great for documents and low-quality photos, but it does just okay with higher resolution photos.
If you are looking for a printer/scanner to print and scan documents, and scan some photos for internet/email use only, then this is a fine, economical choice. If you are looking to print or scan high-quality photos, consider the MP600. It's about 100 bucks more expensive than the MP160, but it's worth it. The MP600 uses photo-quality ink and has a MUCH better scanner.
I got the MP160 at Best Buy the day after Thanksgiving for 20 dollars. I consider that an exceptional value.
The retail price of $89.99 is reasonable.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

canon pixma 160 bad decision to buy
by washore on October 31, 2009
Pros: Great printer while it lasted. No bells or whistles but did the job, user friendly for printing and copying no problem.
Cons: Problem was after 20 ink tanks you get error E 8. This is inkpad full and this is when you literally get ink all over the desk.Troubleshooting via Canon-take to service center. The charge is worth more the the printer! Bypass this canon model.
Summary: It was great while it lasted but the error E-8 inkpad full cannot be replaced. I have empty cartridges because at the time Canon stopped the rebate program in my ...
Summary: It was great while it lasted but the error E-8 inkpad full cannot be replaced. I have empty cartridges because at the time Canon stopped the rebate program in my area where I live. This model for the price functioned great, user friendly, easy to replace cartridges. I had to replace this printer with another brand that works so far. Canon makes great cameras but there printers are not so good-BYPASS this model.

Built to last and great quality!
by Lance75TX on October 28, 2009
Pros: I bought this on Black Friday really cheap about 3 years ago and it's still working like charm. I use it to print documents from work and school as well as custom color invitations that I print everyday.
Cons: Color ink doesn't last very long and is pricey. Also, it's pretty loud and shakes when it prints.
Summary: Definitely worth the money I paid for it. I am shocked that it lasted this long. It has outlived one of my desktop computers.
