- Bottom Line:
- If you're shopping for a sub-$100 multifunction printer for intermittent use in your home, the Canon Pixma MP495 will meet your needs. It prints, scans, and copies documents, and the integrated wireless print server means you won't have a bundle of cables tangling up the office. We have a few flaws to nitpick, but otherwise Canon scores with the Pixma MP495.

Got mine today for $49. Easy installation on 5 PC's.
by mdhunter2 on January 24, 2011
Pros: It's a $49 printer, what do you want for $49? We have it in a central location as a family printer, copier and scanner. I like the feature set for the money even if the inks are a tad expensive. This is fine for printing web pages, emails, etc.
Cons: Wish it had an LCD display but it wouldn't be $49 now, would it? And I wasn't crazy that i had to initially had to use a USB cable to do the initial installation on the desktop PC before being able to set up the wireless part. No ethernet port.
Summary: The pros outweigh the cons by far in my opinion. Price, ease of setup and full feature set outweigh the little sluggish print speeds and less than stellar print quality ...
Summary: The pros outweigh the cons by far in my opinion. Price, ease of setup and full feature set outweigh the little sluggish print speeds and less than stellar print quality as a photo printer. It will do what our family needs it to do and I look forward to seeing the Android app that will let us print from our Droids. Overall, we're very pleased.

Only $50, wireless, easy setup, what do you need?
by bcsmith4361 on December 24, 2010
Pros: Ease of use, good looks, functions well. I also like how the tray opens when you print. Also, includes USB printer cable, which most printers don't include.
Cons: The lid and covers are flimsy, but you don't open it that often anyway.

Summary: This printer was bought to replace a Lexmark 305. The Lexmark had a more solid feel and printed very nicely, but could not//would not keep the wireless connection. It would not connect, or stay connected, and no amount of uninstalling/re-installing the program helped. It was a printer that I really liked, so I kept it for copies only, but needed to have something I could rely on.
The Canon was cheaper, and initially, before it was set up, I was afraid that it was going to be a pain to set up because the manual is rather redundant and leads from one step to another and starts to repeat the process ad nauseam. After software installation, I was not directed to one of the processes as the manual said would happen(connecting the printer with USB cable). So, I started software again and this time everything went perfectly. After a few test pages I concluded that I made a good decision-everything was perfect! Excellent printer and good buy!!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

'The one draw back is no memory card reader for my camera. If it had a memory card reader it would be hard to beat at any price for an entry level printer for home or small office use.

Great low cost printer, basic needs only
by mtdew100 on July 30, 2011
Pros: Perfect for my house as we need a wireless printer, however we have a great all in one with fax but no wireless. Due to the low price we got the canon for printing only. Quick nice printing.
Cons: Makes a lot of noise. will not scan wireless as other I have had does.

Great printer at a low price!!
by NickyBeavers on July 22, 2011
Pros: Cheap-60 bucks at walmart, easy printing, scanning, and copying. Scanning quality is remarkable, wireless function works like a charm, doesn't hurt to look at.
Cons: Initial wireless set-up was a pain, had to download the OS X Lion drivers.

Summary: I am going to college soon, and I needed a good printer, and this one seemed like the best for the price at walmart. So far I am loving this printer. It prints decently fast, however I have nothing to compare it to since the only printer I've used was an ancient deskjet. The first thing that blew me away was the quality of scanned photos. I took my 12" x 24" class graduation photo (which was professionally done) and stuck as much of it under the scanner. The quality of the photo that came out was remarkable. It retained all of the vivid color and glossy look, even though it was one cheap copy paper. I was very impressed.
They only things that middy bugged me was A) if your using os x lion you minus well throw out the disk since you need to download the 10.7 driver from the canon website and B) wireless setup was a pain. To clarify, set-up wasn't a pain, but the fact that when the printer is plugged into the computer via usb it shows up as a different printer than when it is in wireless mode (but both "printers" have the same name). I didn't realize this at first, but what you have to do is add another printer when it is in wireless mode and select it again. Otherwise it works like a charm and was a steal for the price. Highly recommend! -

Do NOT buy this printer if you want to print wirelessly
by Chili33x on July 22, 2011
Pros: Prints well & pretty fast
Cons: Technical instructions and assistance in setting up wirelessly are horrible. Their website is a supermarket and has no useful information.
Summary: Makes me think twice about buying another Cannon product
