The good: Fast print and copy speeds; great print and scan quality; ADF; two paper sources; preview LCD; memory card slots and PictBridge port.
The bad: Scan speeds are just OK; lacks advanced fax features; PictBridge port can't be used for USB flash or HDD devices; no duplexer.

Was good while it lasted.
by tsgross on January 25, 2010
Pros: Good copy quality. Relatively fast. Good scanning capability. Quick faxing.
Cons: Uses way too much ink and says ink tank is empty long before it really needs to be replaced. Now, after only 14 months 'ink absorber is full' and needs to be taken to a Cannon repair place making it useless.
Summary: The cost of fixing this printer after only 14 months is prohibitive, so replacing it. Definitely won't be with another Canon!

If you like to waste paper then this is the printer.
by jwatts26 on November 22, 2009
Pros: Prints well, easy to use, fair amount of functionality.
Cons: Paper jams, paper jams, paper jams!!! Expensive ink cartridges, plus you need to buy 4 cartridges (yellow, magenta, cyan & black. Can't load more than 20 sheets at a time.

Summary: The Canon MX 700 seems to go through ink rather fast, and the inks are very expensive. You need to buy 4 cartridges (yellow, magenta, cyan & black), and the black cartridge is a different size, so you can't buy the lower priced 4 pack. The fax works only when it wants to. You can only put in about 20 sheets at a time, so you're constsntly feeding it paper. However, the biggest problem is that the MX 700 CONSTANTLY eats up paper. It grabs the sheet and twists it somehow getting it stuck. Then you have to remove the back panel in order to remove the twisted, non re-usable piece of paper. What a waste! Then you have to reset the machine, check the paper and start the printing process again. Suddenly the paper is caught once again. I have had this done to me on hundreds of occasions. Sometimes it will eat 5 sheets of paper in a row. This is totally unacceptable. I would not recommend this printer to my worst enemy.

It has been a big disappointment.
by Icreateart on February 19, 2009
Pros: Convenient and the quality of output is good.
Cons: In only two months, the scan function does not work and the very first obscenely expensive magenta cartridge I installed was rejected by the printer.
Summary: I will complain to the company and probably not buy another Canon printer.
