Epson Stylus NX430 Small-in-One All-in-One Printer price range: $55.00 - $119.99

The good: The Epson NX430 stuffs a printer, scanner, and copy machine into a device that also fits in small places, and Epson's iPrint software extends your printing reach to compatible Android and iOS devices.
The bad: The printer lacks an Ethernet port for wired networking, and its "moderate-capacity" cartridge bay is a money sink if you print a high volume of photos and color documents.
The bottom line: The Epson NX430 "Small-in-One" printer is a solid investment for students and office jockeys who print high-quality photos and documents but don't have the space for a large format device.

Worst printer regarding cost of consumables.
by artistxx on January 11, 2012
Pros: Easy to setup and print wirelessly.
Cons: Cost of ink isn't sustainable. I print a few pages a week and must replace at least one cartridge a month ($20) I'm guessing 50cents a sheet to print.
Summary: Look elsewhere.

Scanner won't work when you're out of ink.
by lummysdad on July 13, 2012
Pros: Cheap buying price
Cons: Cartridge runs out of ink just by looking at it! Cost too much to re-fill. Epson uses their technology to make sure no 3rd party can sell you cheaper ink. Their low-ink and out-of-ink warnings calculated by counting pages!
Summary: After printing about 20 pages you get a 'low ink' warning. Another 20 you can't use printer. Why not let me print out faded pages? Won't let me. ...
Summary: After printing about 20 pages you get a 'low ink' warning. Another 20 you can't use printer. Why not let me print out faded pages? Won't let me. Ok I'll replace. Look, old cartridge still 1/2 full. Just an expensive scanner now. No, it wont let you scan now! That is just evil. They will lie to you and say people don't want to print when they're low on ink. Most dishonest company around. So much so I spend all my free time panning reviews of them.
Their low-ink and out-of-ink warnings are calculated by counting pages! I use to test printers by printing out one dot. With Epson it's the same as I printed a solid black picture.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Cheap is the word
by velvee on July 4, 2012
Pros: The only good thing I have found is that it prints faster then my HP
It has a small footprint.Cons: Very expensive to print. The cartridges run out quickly, sure the cartridges are modestly priced but you are buying them more often and forget printing a picture. Try to figure out how to enlarge a document. Ease of use gets a big zero. Very noisy.
Summary: Don't waste your money. In this case you really get what you pay for.

The printer says it is out of ink when the cartridges is still half full. I broke one open to see. Sometimes the auto sheet feeder works and sometimes it doesn't. The menu selections are hard to navigate. I don't want to get out the manual each time I need to use a printer.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Works perfectly and doesn't take up space.

Summary: Although I feel for those who have had issues setting up their NX430s, I didn't have any. My small primary laptop computer doesn't have an optical drive, so I downloaded all of the software directly from Epson's website. Perhaps starting with the most up to date software helps. I'm pretty sure that I also updated the firmware on the printer at one point, too. That was painless, too, apparently. I had the NX420 for a short while before upgrading to the NX430. Due to my space limitations, the $10 cost of the upgrade for the slightly smaller size and slightly better design of the NX430 was well worth the it. I print from several different laptops, both PC and Mac, and also from a first generation iPad and a few iPhones, both 4 and 4S. All work flawlessly and the print quality is more than sufficient for my needs.

Summary: I obviously would recommend this machine, has a very good build quality, works flawlessly, I've been using this for about a month right now, and haven't experienced any problems since I set it up. Is a must buy if you're an student with not much space, and doesn't print lots of pages, but if you do print a lot, think twice before buying because the cartridges run out very quickly and cost around 15 each.

Summary: Took me two printer orders to get one that would set up correctly. But now I find it a hassle every time I go to use it because sometimes it won't work at all, most of the time I try to print photos it quits half-way through, wasting my toner, my paper, and my time. But then I realized the photo quality is so terrible that I shouldn't bother printing photos from it anyway. Now I want to throw it off my balcony instead of trying to get my money back, again. Worst part is I followed the recommendation of CNET's "editor's pick" so now I don't know who to trust, because seriously I don't know how anyone could recommend this piece of crap.

Cannot beat it for the price.
by mdsmith on February 1, 2013
Pros: Clean, sharp prints and copies, easy scans with 4 adjustable modes, very easy setup. Bought it 5 months ago and still have not needed to replace an ink cartridge.
Cons: Paper capacity could be bigger, but than that is the price you pay for the size. Manual does not explain how to p0rint envelopes, I had to call email support to get instructions.

even close to this price. I bought this printer in September, 2012. Small footprint, It easily does everything it is supposed to. Prints are nice and sharp, colors accurate, scans quickly, with 4 scan modes. Set up was easy, but I used a wired connection. Since I have an iMac, I had to download the driver from Epson, but I don't know of any printer that does not require this for Macs. I use it for home use, for letters, resumes, scanning photos, and printing internet documents. So far, I have not used up any cartridges, although black is getting low as to be expected. High capacity cartridges are available. I have not printed any photos as I am choosy about the quality, and I don't expect a printer of this price and size to satisfy me.
My previous printer was a Cannon MX822, costing $179.00, and it also will not print if one ink cartridge runs out, would not work wirelessly, as supposed to, and scan would not work right even when wire connected. -
Definitely Not Worth It.

Summary: I really liked everything about this printer, but I finally pulled the plug on it because of one issue: the outrageous ink costs involved. If you have a way to get free ink, go for it. Otherwise, DO NOT even consider this machine. Sometimes I would print 20 pages of primarily black documents and the screen would be filled with the dreaded "low on ink" warning. Epson obviously has these printers rigged to squeeze as much money as possible from any ignorant fool by requiring constant spending on ink. I tried every trick in the book to get around this sole negative, but Epson has it set up so that you must spend ridiculous amounts of money to use this money hole on a regular basis. (Which is why they are so cheap to buy.) I'm back to HP, which is clearly inferior in almost every aspect, but at least I don't have to sweat it every time I print a doc or a pic. So if you are rich and foolish, get this printer. Otherwise, anything else that is not an Espon has to be your choice.
