Working out of your home? Don't Buy this printer

Pros: Epson product support is excellent, responsive. Not their fault this is a piece of junk.

Summary: 1. Use 3 hole-punched paper? Have to put in backwards or it activates the "no paper" sensor. Solution? put in backwards, change sofeware to print in reverse. Problem? Software on PC doesn't control document printing preferences.......printed 120 separate documents, HAD TO CHECK printer preferences EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Further Travails with the Workforce 310: So maybe ALL new printers are this way, but the 310 WON'T WORK if even one ink cartridge is empty. Last night, (after the stores are all closed, of course), I had a small b&w only print job. Printer decided it was out of Magenta, and simply refused to print. Now remember, this was a b&w job only. Epson allows no way to bypass the color cartridges if you don't need them. Neat marketing trick, right? No matter what, no matter what your requirements are, you are still forced to buy (and maintain stock!) in ALL the printer cartridges for the machine. Bad design, not exactly what I would call user friendly.
2. Printer Ink: When the cartridge gets low (according to Epson) it shuts down all printing until you replace the cartridge. Now, maybe I'm suspicious, but I'd like to see the printing go grey before I change the cartridge.
3. Printer Ink: When the cartridge gets low, I get a pop-up from Epson inviting me to purchase ink from them direct....pops up for EVERY SINGLE PRINT JOB. Solution? REINSTALL the drivers!
4. Automatic Document Feeder: Sometimes (relatively often) doesn't like single sheets in the feeder.....tried 4 different manufacturers of paper.....no difference.
5. Automatic Document Feeder: Clogs often.
6. Epson doesn't stand behind their products: Finally, after 6 (yes, 6) separate calls to Epson product support (over the period of a few weeks) I gave up, said I wanted my money back. Well, money they won't give, they were willing to give me a replacement printer, but first I had to give them a credit card for $160.00!!!! Just to make sure I'm not cheating them out of a printer. Now remember, this is after several weeks and multiple phone calls to product support.

Updated on Oct 1, 2010I give up! ADF won't feed 20lb paper. I'm tossing this piece of junk, and bought an HP 6500....hopefully I'll have better luck.
As always, Epson product support is terrific. This product isn't worth it.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great AIO features and performance for a low price
by wstightwad on July 27, 2009
Pros: Print quality is excellent in normal, photo, and best photo modes. Simple setup and 100% Vista compatible. The top document feeder is smooth. Individual color cartridges are money savers. Excellent scan quality. Total all-in-one including fax.
Cons: Loud/violent start from paper tray. Economy mode print is a little too light. No media card slots or USB port. Large footprint.
Summary: I'm a lifetime HP customer but couldn't find a quality all-in-one for under $200. I had read the reviews for the Epson Workforce 600 and saw that they ...
Summary: I'm a lifetime HP customer but couldn't find a quality all-in-one for under $200. I had read the reviews for the Epson Workforce 600 and saw that they were making a more economical model. My local Best Buy had just gotten its first shipment of Workforce 310's so there wasn't one setup to test, and they're so new that I couldn't find a review online. I took the leap of faith based on the review of the 600 and was absolutely shocked at the quality of the 310. It has most of the features of the more expensive printers and after a few days I still haven't found any major flaws. I only paid $79 and I honestly couldn't be more pleased at how much bang I got for so few bucks. The print, copy, scan and fax modes are all relatively quick and quiet, and they all work flawlessly, even with Vista 32. There was a minor glitch with the scanner but it was easily resolved by going into the Control Panel, opening "Scanners and Cameras," opening "Properties," opening "Events," and changing the Scan Button action to "Scan." Otherwise setup was perfect as has been the performance. I highly recommend this printer at its normal $129 price, and at $79 it's an absolute steal.

To little control.....To much ink!!!
by morph7 on December 8, 2010
Pros: It does print fast!
Cons: The printer uses color ink even when you are printing in black and white.
This means that even though I ONLY USE IT FOR BLACK TEXT!
I must replace all the ink cartridges way to often.
I'm paying to much for INK!!!!!Summary: It does print, scan, copy and fax well.

But it uses to much ink.
Uses color ink when not printing in color with no way to bypass this at all.
If you run out of a color you CAN NOT print in black.
The software is not very good either.
But you get what you pay for!
They are obviously making all the money on the ink :)2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

by almetman on April 24, 2010
Pros: Great quality prints, auto document feeder, fax from PC or from paper documents, USB or LAN connection. Inexpensive ($70 on sale in April 2010).
Cons: Document feed jammed once but it could have been the condition of the paper I fed.

'Ink clogs R Us' is Epsons real name
by skytop111 on December 13, 2010
Pros: Great promise, unrealized reality.
Cons: On going ink clogs is the demon that plagues Epson. The workforce 310 is no exception. It is the printers achilles heel.
Summary: The poor printing or need for constant cleaning and reprinting makes ownership of this Epson printer a major pain.

Horrible print quality and bad tech support!
by BlairJensens on October 25, 2011
Pros: Has many features people are looking for.
Cons: Once out of ink, you cannot print anything - even if it isn't using that color! Epson won't support you unless you buy Genuine Epson Ink Cartridges and have them in the printer at that moment in time. Ran me through a lot of troubleshooting for ink smea
Summary: Save your money and buy some printer that is supported better than by Epson. I have had this printer for shortly over a year and now it is worthless. Don'...

Reasons not to buy...let me count the ways!
by jmbreland001 on May 26, 2011
Pros: Reasonably good color representation
Cons: Uses ink like a fiend, and replacing the cartridges costs over $70.
Prints backwards. You have to manually reorder the pages from back to front.
Even with regular use, the ink nozzles clog with maddening frequency.

3 hole punch solution
by gwscarfo on August 21, 2010
Pros: Paper must be loaded with the holes on the left. When you print, Select:
Ctrl-P
Properties
(select reverse order)
Page Layout
Rotate 180o
it will not remember the "rotate 180o" however, not to big a prtoblem to use 3 hole punch paper.Cons: Don't like the Ink Control. I feel like I am throwing away partially full ink
Summary: I still recommend this

Why won't it let me rate it at only 1 star?
by skivvywaiver on November 27, 2009
Pros: I liked the price, but quickly found out why.
Cons: Constantly needs prone head claeaing, munches paper, has to be nursed to produce a single print out. I true surprise when it actuall does a good job.
Summary: Cheap price = cheap crap. It's built poorly and performs poorly. Stay away!
