There appear to be drivers up to Windows 8.
by Lorenzo1212 on March 12, 2013
Pros: Very easy to set up.
Cons: The fact that the planned obsolescence of the scanner seems well nigh.

Bad choice for business
by malachirc on July 9, 2012
Pros: It prints fast, and it prints (relatively) cheap
Cons: Everything else-
Have to scan from the computer, not the machine
Can't print from remote desktop (apparently a common problem with HP)
VERY LOUD scanning and faxing

Scanner is Horrible for anything but tiny jobs!
by CristobalDavid on February 16, 2012
Pros: It works as a printer just fine. That is the only reason I gave it one full star by the way.
Cons: Loud. Misfeeds when grabbing pages to scan often jams. Scanning is insanely slow. Pages appear crooked on scans. Cannot handle large jobs and a large job is anything more than 30 pages for this machine.
Summary: Do not buy this machine if you need a high capacity and great scanner. If you just want the "ability" to scan on the off chance that you need to ...

Summary: Do not buy this machine if you need a high capacity and great scanner. If you just want the "ability" to scan on the off chance that you need to scan one or two pages then it will be fine for you.
If you know you need to scan documents on a regular basis and especially more than 20 or 30 page documents you are asking for a ton of stress and annoyance buying this model. The scanning program is not user friendly at all so be prepared to sit and be confused with it for a hot minute unless you are tech savvy. You would think you could just put your documents in the feeder and press a button on the machine that says "scan". No you can't because there is no button on the machine for this. You have to activate the scan by opening up the program on your computer and press the scan button in the program.
God help you if you try to scan 30+ pages. You should know the capacity to load pages is around 50 pages by the way and the more you load the more chances it will misfeed, grab more than one page at a time to scan, or simply jam. So you have to watch what you are scanning closely. Also, the more you load the more the pages appear crooked on the actual scan. I think HP knew about this problem because they include a "straighten" document tool in the program. But it doesn't straighten it completely.
So basically if you just want a printer that you can every once in a while use as a scanner but very rarely - you might like this model. If you are buying this model specifically because you need a really good scanner that you will use daily - DO NOT BUY this model.
(I have never even attempted to use fax function so I can't review that feature.)

Summary: When I installed my new Windows 7 computer onto this printer, the scan would no longer work and neither would the sheet feeder on the scan feature. I need to scan for my business. I contacted HP and was on the phone for almost 4 hours with the tech. He had to hang up because he was too long on the phone with one customer and promised to call me back the next day. He didn't call.
I called HP back two days later with the service code the first guy had given me, and got a customer service rep from India that sincerely tried to help me. He told me they would swap it out for a newer, more expensive model and I could pay the difference. I was happy about that. He transfered me to another guy that would do the transaction. This guy spent an hour and a half including going through printers that might meet my needs, and helping me select the printer right for me with an LED display that I could see.
The next rep I spoke to said that HP doesn't swap out printers and he could not imagine how the other guy could think such a thing. I had thought the problem could be solved, or that HP would work with me. Not a chance.
Since I have this problem, I have searched all over the internet and found my problem is not unique. The people who have reported that their HP printer won't scan, also have negative remarks on the HP service techs, their lack of knowledge, and that there is no recourse.
I give them credit, however, for trying to replace my printer with a "refurbished" model. Same problem. After a number of conversations with HP techs and customer service, I have calculated the time spent on the phone with them totals in excess of 7 hours.
Now. If I had purchased this unit from HP, instead of Staples, I would have a different story. HP would probably be of more help.
Live an learn, I guess.

So far, so good. Easy Windows network installation.
by bluesouptin on September 5, 2011
Pros: Recent purchase. Out-of-box setup (shipping remove) goes smoothly by emblematic instruction. Copy and printing functions work well. Have not tested the fax function, yet.
Cons: Scanning function does not initiate at the unit.

Difficult setup
by BarbaraJohnstone on August 28, 2011
Pros: Don't know yet about this printer, but my previous HP laser printer has lasted almost 15 years and is still cranking along. I got a new one mainly for something a little faster with copying capability.
Cons: As other reviewers note, it does not come with the usb cable you need to connect it to your computer. Once I had the cable, I still had trouble getting started. My computer is a pc running Windows Vista 64. The auto-install program did not start automa
Summary: So far, so good, but definitely not plug-and-play.

Bought 2 weeks ago. Works great
by pattythom on November 2, 2010
Pros: I've set this printer up as a network printer and was amazed at how easy everything was to setup. Prints fast and the HP Smart printing softwaIf your looking for re that comes with this printer really makes web printing fun.
Cons: I have to say that it does lack the fancy looks that most of the new printers have but it works and works great for what you pay for this one.

Buyer Beware

Summary: This product does not come with the cable you need to connect to your computer or router! I was completely shocked and dismayed (and spent an hour on the phone with HP to tell them so) that HP wouldn't include a CRITICAL piece of equipment with this product. I repeat, you CANNOT connect this printer to your computer or wireless router without buying a USB cable separately. You wouldn't know it from the advertising for this product, so I'm telling you. If you don't already have the right cable at your home/home office/business, you need to buy one if you actually want to use this printer. I am supremely annoyed. HP wants it both ways: they want to exclude critical equipment so that they can advertise the lowest price BUT they don't want to tell you that they've excluded a critical component from the box. What they get now is an irate customer.
