The good: The HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One is ready for high-volume printing needs with an ample 250-sheet paper input capacity, autoduplexing, cloud printing, and a host of versatile connectivity options.
The bad: The autodocument feeder can't duplex double-sided originals for scanning and the smaller touch screen requires more patience to operate than the 8600 Plus and 8600 Premium.
The bottom line: The Officejet Pro 8600 anchors HP's flagship printing line with capable performance, ample connectivity options, and enough cloud-printing tools to ensure its long-term usefulness.

Pros: Fast printing, great quality.
Great wireless connectivity, we print to it from 2 laptops.
Scanner works great, has Legal size scanner bed. Great results with Vue Scan.
Goes into and out of SLEEP very well, outstanding.
Costco - cheap cartridges.Cons: Stalled once with a print job, restarted.
Somewhat noisy.
Pages with tons of ink will curl a bit.Summary: I bought the 8600 Premium three months ago, in Dec of 2011. So far it has been outstanding overall. I have highly recommended it to several friends.

many futures in this printer, but have problems too.
by RakanWD on November 22, 2012
Pros: 1- nice price comparing it to the cost of ink.
2- you have a touch screen and you can do allot with it
3- HP keep updating the printer
4- it does not consume allot of inkCons: 1- noisy, not really a con cause most printers are, but if there were a quite printer, I would buy it
2- it doesn't jam paper, but many times it take like 5 papers at once.Summary: in summary, i would say that this printer doesn't worth buying, cause it just eats papers.

As I said on the cons, it take many papers at once, and it happened to me many times. For example, for 5 times a print 4 of those times a must have a problem in taking mor than 1 paper for printing.
There are many good futures in this printer, I can not say the opposite, but why spending your money in a printer that have this can of issue.
Now, I know how to handle this printer, when I wanna put papers on it, i must shuffle the papers really will !
And if the printer already have papers in it, I take it out, and shuffle it again. This will reduce the chance of me having this problem.
Hope I helped.
Peace to all.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

HP software for IP address crashed my network.

Doesn't Work!
by Karl Kelman on April 15, 2013
Pros: None - Doesn't Work
Cons: Their attempt to force you to buy more ink, and their ink only, has resulted in the printer failing to function at all. It's pure junk.
Summary: The printer is completely defective, and HP's so-called support is of no use whatsoever. Never buy anything from HP!

I hope HP becomes a thing of the past!
by ScrewIt13 on April 11, 2013
Pros: If the features of the printer actually worked, I could give a few pros.
Cons: Awful longevity, terrible tech and customer service support.

Summary: Less than 3 years old and the product is already defunct. Just bought cartridges and haven't even been able to use them. Prints blank pages, sometimes with streaks of color. Tried every repair on the HP website for "blank printing malfunction," nothing works. Called tech support and they tried to have me go over the same test I had already done. End result, to have me pay for the same exact model at 163.00 or an upgraded model for 189.00, when it was their hardware that began malfunction from NO USE in the 1st place. What kind of customer service, business practice is that?!?! They build a low quality product and when it goes bad in less than 5 years they want me to pay for an exact replacement!?!? Every HP printer we've ever bought has never stood the test of time and has always needed to be replaced at least once before actually getting a decent LEMON. Will never buy HP printer again and will stay away from all products because of the AWFUL support. Products are garbage and customer/tech service is useless.

The 8600e All-In-One has a poor product support.

Summary: I called their support number and talked to a lady that did every test under the sun. She sent me to second tier support. He again did a number of tests even logging on to my system. He declares the printer faulty and said someone would call me to arrange a replacement. Several weeks pass and I call back. They have total amnesia and want to do everything over again. I tell them the story and they won't listen. Then somehow they tell me my warranty has expired. I fax them my sales receipt and they veerify that the printer is under warranty. So...I have been trying to get satisfaction since Nov 2012. Promised a case manager, no calls. The only conclusion I can come to is that HP does not care. I am only one small voice that they can ignore. Office Max won't help because I did not buy their bloated warranty program. I am frustrated and you can bet that I will think long and hard before I trust my money on any HP product. The printer must be a throw away. Beware before you spend any money with HP. The support is poor and HP just doesn't care!

Airprint? NOT
by Wilhem-the-Great on October 31, 2012
Pros: Multi functions. Quiet, and fast
Cons: Distorted eprint, airprint doesn't work. Useless for anything other that the old ball and chain usb cable printers.

Summary: They say Airprint? Doesn't work. Customer service from HP was useless and this problem as all over the blogs. HP: Make one that works and then I will buy it. Don't try to get my money based on a false promise of future updates. If you don't want or care about airprint or eprint this might be for you. In the next 12 months there will be plenty of competition that is priced right and it works. This isn't one of them. Anytime somebody tries to sell you something stating that it will work great after a few updates...stay away. Oh also the driver likes to delete and and remove it's self as default printer. A "not ready for prime time player" for the price.

HP Short Changed the Features.
by RussWh on October 14, 2012
Pros: Seems to be quiet enough, prints quickly, print quality is okay.
Cons: While not mentioned anyplace but in the owner's manual, this printer cannot scan duplex off the automatic document feeder. This means the only way to actually scan a duplex document is with the flatbed, manually flipping each page one by one.
Summary: Nice printer, but HP missed a huge feature that should just be included. If you need an ADF, you need duplex scanning. I can't believe they failed this one ...

Have had trouble since purchase.
by LWebbGlobal on August 22, 2012
Pros: reasonable price for promised features
Cons: Noisey; false paper jams; printer head carriage jamming for no apparent reason; printer jets blocking; more
Summary: Perhaps this is lemon, but I have logged over 4 hours with HP support just today! Still no resolution!

Easy setup but a couple of surprises
by doogster on May 31, 2012
Pros: Easy setup, good quality, toll free tech support, free IRIS OCR software
Cons: Disappointed with scanning, and possible problem with printing to photo paper

Summary: I was pleased with the ease of setting up, including connecting wirelessly to my home network including 2 computers (Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Vista 32 bit). Much better than the bloatware that came with my previous HP D110 All in One.
I thought I was getting a 14 inch flatbed for scanning, but I didn't read closely enough - it's 11 inch and you have to use the automatic document feeder to do 14 inch, which is no good for photos or scanning a large map or chart.
I also was enthused about the 4800 x 4800 scanning resolution. I tried it on a 5 x 7 photo and it said it was creating a 2 GB file and it wouldn't even let me proceed. Too large to send over my network? But I scanned at 200 dpi and it was much nicer than my HP D110 at 200 dpi.
On my first tries at printing on HP 8.5 x 11 Advance Photo Paper, the printer wouldn't grab the sheet from the cassette and said out of paper. I can't say whether I've completely solved this, but I printed successfully by loading multiple sheets of photo paper in the cassette, instead of putting just one sheet on top of the 50 sheets of inkjet paper. So maybe the back of the sheet was slippery or there was a difference in the friction between the sheets. Like the Undrtaker's sign said, "Remains to be seen".
