The good: The Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 grabs your attention with its penny-per-page black ink costs and its large, color touch-screen control panel. It's also fast with printing photos and quiet during operation, and it boasts a five-year warranty.
The bad: In order to hit such a low black-ink cost, the Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 turns out text that isn't as deep black as competing models, and Lexmark's SmartSolutions app site is poorly designed. Plus, it's slow with copies.
The bottom line: The Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 is a well-designed, compact multifunction printer, and its low cost per page helps it earn our recommendation for those who can stomach slower print speeds.

Coolest all in one I've ever seen
by chuckchickenlegs on May 15, 2010
Pros: Set up was well explained and VERY simple. Printing quality is great. Ink is super cheap. Printing/copy/fax speed is fantastic. The touch screen is really cool and simple to use. Customizable options are a plus. Overally the best all in 1.
Cons: Scanned documents take a while to appear on my computer. No manual feed for company letterhead.
Summary: This printer does everything. It's perfect for my small business. I actually find it fun to use. I normally never write reveiws like this, but I'm so impressed ...

A magnificent and beautiful printer, indeed.
by FallenHoney on July 18, 2010
Pros: Easiest Setup I've yet to experience; Great printing quality; Good speed; A huge variety of features; Very, very easy to use, very user friendly; Touch screen is more useful than I expected; And the best thing about this printer: Ink prices.
Cons: The paper tray can be just a bit fussy at times.
Summary: First off, I do not give this product 5 stars lightly.

I am a fairly tech-savvy person, and I can honestly say that out of all the printers I have ever used (which is a good number of them), this is by far my favorite one.
Right off the bat, I will say the best thing about this printer is the prices of the ink. Most affordable ink I have ever seen. (Black ink especially, at $5.00, as well as color ink exceptionally affordable).
The next best (if not just as amazing) thing about this printer is the setup. Most printers I have used are SUCH A PAIN to set up among both Apple (Mac) computers and PC (Windows) computers. I have never had an easier experience setting up a printer between both operating systems on multiple computers. It works both wirelessly and plugged in to a computer, either way or both ways.
Print quality is wonderful! I have printed both black and white text and images, as well as color, and it all looks great.
The only thing that this printer has given me trouble with is taking the paper tray out and putting it back in. It might just be mine, but sometimes it can be difficult to put the tray in once it is out. However, I seem to have fixed something once I took it out completely, removed all paper from it, and rubbed it down with a smooth cloth and broke in the adjustable paper setting movers.
The amount of features this printer has is overwhelming. I keep the screensaver to be a clock, so whenever the printer is not being used, you can look right at it for the time.
You can scan to any computer the printer is connected to with the push of a button (well, the tap of your finger really, as it is a touch screen). You can plug a USB drive into it to get pictures printed, scanned, etc.
I will not go on, because there is too much to list.
A quick note - I do not use the Fax feature, so I cannot say how that is, although I have a feeling it is just as great as all the other features. (Also, the touch screen is completely customizable, so I was able to get the "Fax" button off of there).
I would most certainly recommend this printer to most.
This printer is my home printer which my family can print to from anywhere in the house on whichever computer or laptop or device.

Worst Printer I have ever Owned
by ckresmery on June 28, 2011
Pros: Ease of Installation, Ease of Replacing Ink, Ink Cartridges are Inexpensive, Scanner, Fax and Copier. Lexmark realizes that there is a problem with this printer and are gracious about replacing it (which new model has prob also) or sending you replacement
Cons: It ALWAYS HAS A PRINT HEAD ISSUE. It either needs to realign the print head or it needs the ink cartridges reinstalled when you have not even touched them. Out of the blue it will need to realign the print head and then tell you to reinstall them. POO

I really like this printer.
by the computer genius on December 5, 2010
Pros: Great Print quality, Great auto feeder, You don't need a usb cable to setup wireless, simple fuctionality, Fax actually works. Consdering comming from a brother the print and scan speed is nice.
Cons: It's a Injet Not clear on what kind of wireless security is compatable, It does not come with optional software (for example Brother comes with Paperport.

Summary: I saw this printer while working with a client in Coral Springs and I said to myself I need one. Her printer was much easier for me to setup because she had a G wireless router, furnished by AT&T No issue. I have a Dual Band N router. My printer was going off line if I didn't use it for a while. Contrary to instructions if you set it up (according to Tech Support) the highest security it can work on is (ONLY WPA-PSK OR LOWER SUCH AS WEP) NOT WPA2 OR A MIX OF WPA AND WPA2. I was also told this thing is designed to operate on channel 6. And it only operates on the 2.4 ghz band. Once I got that settled I'm fine.
If you want to print a full page photo borderless you can, but let's say you want to print an 8.5 X11 pic with a border. The sides will be uneven. I've tried this directly from the printer, from the computer and scanner. Tech Support didn't know why but I found out. This printer has a paper size setting for 8.5 X11 but will only print a photo in an 8X10 format, which means you lose an inch on one side and a half of an inch on another side. So when you use a border the picture looks uneven. I went back into staples and tried a canon 870 and some brother both of those printers printed the same way if set to 8X10 but once I put the setting on 8.5X11 the picture looked good and even.
Now for the stuff you are interested in. The print quality is is good. the printer is fast. It's much faster than my old brother. According to the marketing strategy you get 510 pages and the cost ls something like $4.99. Then I heard on some website that they only gave you half of a container of ink for that because the next price up is $9.99. I don't know or really care I buy my ink from E-bay anyway.
In my opinion the faxes and scans are fast. Are there faster ones by HP sure but there feeders are all screwed up so if you want to get a broken new printer with bloated software get an HP.
I like the touch Screen it's simple it's not a hundred steps to do one thing. You can have a few different computers setup and it will let you choose which computer to scan to. It's also easy to add apps such as paper port. If you are an experienced computer user it's cut and dry if not you might have to learn where to browse for the file to scan to in the subfolder of program files in windows. But if you know what you are doing it's a 123 thing. Good news is for those who are not as experienced is you will still be able to scan to the application you installed you just won't be able to use the buttons on the printer but you can do it within windows.
The one thing I didn't really like was that this program didn't come with any software such as OCR or Photo editing stuff from a disk But then that stuff kinds of bloats the functionality. But Brother came with Paperport which is wonderful for filing all your scans. This printer has what they call Smart solutions which allows you to download the apps from there server. I have never used this since I just looked this up. I'm not sure if they charge for the apps but it looks like it's cloud based. If you don't get involved with smart solutions you can download all your docs to adobe reader.
Faxing was very easy to setup instead of looking for a hidden menu for the question of sharing an answering machine. Straight up on the the software of screen you just choose answer a ring or two after the machine picks up and it works.
I used to not like Lexmark. I was usually a Cannon, or bother man. But his printer really impresses me I like it more than the brother. Now it's a tie between Cannon and this But I think this is faster but the cannons are built better. This printer is for keeps.

I have a letter going to Lexmark about this hopefully they will come out with a firmware update or give me a printer that works perfectly. Other than that I love this printer.3 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I absolutely love this printer. I bought it for my home based business, after 2 weeks of researching printers. I wanted a printer that had an excellent print quality, was good on ink, and wouldn't cost a fortune. This printer by Lexmark has delivered.
Set up was seamless, I was able to set up the wireless and have it up in running in no time. I love that I can print from anywhere in my home. I have used the print, fax, and scan options and all have been super EASY. I'm a tech person, but I still appreciate easy! A novice can use this printer, with all of bells and whistles w/no problem. The scan to email option is awesome.
Bottom line, if you're looking for a great printer this one is worth it.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Incredibly Terrible

I'm not a big review-writer but was compelled to create an account just to warn people against this printer, which is really, really bad.
I'm on my 3rd printer. I've also had the print head replaced twice. I've tried everything I could to get a refund direct from Lexmark, but their strict policy only allows for continued "repairs" until the problem is fixed. In that sense (and in fairness to the Lexmark brand) they're very responsive and try hard to make it right (hence the repeated replacements.) But the problem, it turns out, is that the printers aren't broken. They're just poorly created.
The problems:
• Routine paper jams
• Frequent ink leaks - several times, when printing photos, the paper has come out completely saturated with one color of ink or another.
• CONSTANT color issues: when printing photos, colored text, etc., it invariably comes out with discolorations (blue = green, black = gray, etc.)
• The touchscreen freezes about 3/4 of the time i use it, requiring a reboot to continue use
• The scanning quality seems lower than advertised - always comes through a fuzzy
• The print quality - when it DOES print correctly (rare) - is still very low. Not sharp, not vibrant.
I'm somewhat computer savvy and have tried EVERYTHING recommended on the site to remedy my problems - updated drivers, firmware, etc. No luck.
FYI: I'm using it wirelessly with my new MacBook Pro, so my only thought is some sort of operating system incompatibility, which might explain others' satisfaction with this printer.
For me, though, it was a big mistake. And even though I'm on my 3rd, shiny new one, I'm going to buy a different brand of printer, because it's essentially useless.
Stay away! If your experience is anything like mine, you will surely regret it.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Print head problems
by ctrabada on August 23, 2011
Pros: Quality (when it actually prints), wireless, great scanner, easy to use screen, cheap ink
Cons: Major print head problems, wireless connection problems

Summary: Received this as a Christmas present from hubby who did not check reviews. Had to retire a 7 year-old Dell printer and was having problems with a 5-year old Epson. Was easy to setup and install. Wireless connection worked right away. However, all printouts came out with grey boxes on the pages. Since I wasn't printing important documents or photos yet, I let it slide but then it got really annoying. Could not print anything without the grey boxes. Contacted support after four months and they promptly sent a new print head. It worked perfectly for a little while and then started having wireless connection problems. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
Last week, it started giving me problems again. It will not print a full page. The black is faded and the colors are not even. It starts printing for about a fourth of the page and then it's just blank. Contacted support again and they're sending me another print head after 3 months of receiving the last one. I performed deep cleaning of print head twice and it still doesn't work. I use original ink cartridges and have not had to replace them yet because I've only printed a total of 157 pages since I bought it (and most of these pages have been either blank pages or poor quality).
Obviously this printer has serious problems. Once the warranty runs out, I will probably have to scrap it and get a new printer. I wish they would just send me a new printer instead of the print heads (of course this would not be cost effective for Lexmark). So it looks like I will have spent two hundred dollars for a printer that will last less than a year.
Will not buy another Lexmark.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

My worst printer to date
by gautam-csat on June 5, 2011
Pros: Ink is cheap but if the printer does not work, what's the point.
Cons: Wireless does not wake up despite updates to latest firmware and drivers. The best you can do is run to the printer, click on the power button to wake it up. Sprint back to where your computer is and then issue the print command. That's Lexmarks wireless
Summary: In my opinion, this is a waste of money.
