Lexmark X7675 Pro price range: $119.99 - $200.26

The good: Painless Wi-Fi setup, excellent output quality; easy-to-use onscreen controls, generous five-year warranty.
The bad: Slow print speeds require patience; poorly designed output tray; low-capacity auto-document feeder.
The bottom line: Aside from a few design hang-ups and a slower than average output speed, the Lexmark X7675 Professional all-in-one printer is a cut above other multifunctional printers. Its excellent quality prints, easy-to-set-up wireless connectivity, and generous five-year warranty catapult it to the top of our list of favorites.
The $200 Lexmark X7675 Professional printer gives office professionals and home users an easy-to-use tool to print media, fax documents, and scan text and photos. The device delivers on its promise to streamline the initial setup process, and establishing a Wi-Fi connection with your wireless router is headache-free thanks to the onscreen instructions. Even though the quality of the X7675's photo and document prints are clear and virtually blemish-free, you'll find yourself impatiently tapping your feet waiting for the printer to spit them out. The paper trays also suffer from slight design hiccups, but in the bigger picture, we have no problem getting past it since the rest of the X7675's report card shows all A's. The straightforward functionality and bonuses like an intuitive control panel, OCR scanning software, and a generous five-year warranty program makes it easy for us to give this Lexmark X7675 a solid recommendation.
Design and features
Lexmark outfits the X7675 in an attractive black finish with silver side paneling and clean, rounded edges that give it an original flair, as opposed to previous versions that looked too much like made-for-Mac clones. We're happy to see Lexmark take a unique stand on their chassis design. The printer measures 8 inches high by 19 inches wide by 14 inches deep and only weighs 19 pounds, making it easy to unplug and transport around the home or office. The front of the printer is pretty basic except for a media card reader on the right side that supports PictBridge USB, SD, MS, xD, MMC, CF, and MD cards as well as a center control panel that folds on a hinge for adjustable viewing angles.
The buttons on the control panel range access the most common device settings and include keys for your onscreen address book, copy/scan/fax/photo shortcuts, toggles for one and two-sided or black and white prints, a cancel button, and a button that takes you to more specific device settings. While we appreciate the time Lexmark saves by including the toggle keys, we're disappointed that the panel is missing one-touch autodial buttons. Our favorite control panel lives on the HP Officejet J6480. It's the basis for all other printer comparisons based on its intuitive layout, two-line display with ink maintenance alerts, and a comprehensive set of tactile shortcut buttons.
The paper input tray sits up on top of the printer and can hold up to 100 sheets of paper using the industry standard adjustable arm that stretches horizontally to fit paper sizes up to 8.5 inches by 17 inches. Again, Lexmark hurts our enthusiasm by not including any advanced to paper handling technology, especially after we've fallen in love with the HP J6480's massive 250-sheet input tray offered at the same price as the X7675. Nevertheless, we had no problem loading plain 20 pound paper into the tray, but the tray that's supposed to catch prints on the way out is too short; even with the extra plastic foot extended, the printer sent paper flying off our desk. We solved the problem by manually organizing finished prints and smaller media like photo paper so it didn't shoot out onto the floor, but it's definitely something to be aware of while you're using it. The X7675 also features an auto-document feeder that can hold up to 25 pages for copies, faxes, or scans.
Lexmark lets you connect the X7675 to your computer directly through USB or using the built in 802.11b/g wireless print server. Setting up either way is a breeze thanks to Lexmark's onscreen guide. In our experience, the typical Wi-Fi setup time usually requires about 15 minutes to 20 minutes to input DNS server information, usernames, and passwords to set up the connection, but we successfully connected the X7675 to our router and printed a page after only 5 minutes. A subtle indicator on the front of the printer alerts you to the status of your connection; green for "connected," yellow for "on but not connected," and red for "off." From there you can print, fax, scan, and copy over the network through your computer or directly on the machine. The X7675 can also scan files to a PDF file, an e-mail message, or to a USB key through the front-loading PictBridge port.
The X7675 ships with minimal paperwork to conserve paper, and you can access most of the instructions, warranty information, and promotional offers on the CD included in the box. Along with the drivers that support Windows XP, Vista, and Mac OS X, the CD also automatically installs several Lexmark productivity programs onto your computer. The Lexmark Toolbar gives you a shortcut bar on top of your Web browser for easy-access printing. Lexmark's Productivity Studio and Imaging Studio programs provide an easy way to auto-edit or crop your photos and include them on a series of creative projects, and the Lexmark Service Center acts as a troubleshooting aide should you encounter a snag in the printing process. We also enjoyed using the onscreen progress bar that automatically pops up when you print. It shows you the progress of your job in an easy-to-read percentage bar (the LCD on the control panel also shows the progress) and conveniently display a graphic representation of your ink depletion.
Performance
The Lexmark X7675's output speed is inconsistent across different types of media. Compared with five other multifunction printers in the same price bracket and price range, the Lexmark registers relative quick color text marks at 6.97 pages per minute, but it falls far behind the rest in photo prints, color presentation documents, and color scan times. The clear winners across most tests are the Canon Pixma MX7600 and the Epson Artisan 800. Both devices are at least $100 more than the Lexmark X7675, so you can save a bit of money if you use the print times as an exercise in patience.
(Longer bars indicate better performance)
| Color scanning (PPM) | Presentation speed (PPM) | Color text speed (PPM) | Photo speed (1 sheet) |
The output quality of the prints also makes up for the longer than average print times. We printed on the highest settings with all six colors and the photos, black and white text documents, and colored graphic presentations all appear very pleasing to the eye. The prints display plenty of details throughout the entire tonal range in portrait shots, and while we did see some color casts in certain images, the subtlety of the tints is barely noticeable to the eye and won't be a problem for amateur photo enthusiasts. Business users hoping to print out PowerPoint presentations will also be satisfied with the X7675's capability to show accurate color control on standard 20 pound white paper. Black text density is impressively deep with no visible stepdowns, jagged edges, or other flaws that typically mar printers without individual inkjet cartridges. The only glitch we see is barely evident in the darker color spectrum, but the printouts overall look crisper than many of the all-in-one photo printers we've tested.
Service and support
Lexmark covers the X7675 Professional with a generous five-year warranty that includes parts and service. The warranty will transfer ownership in case you want to sell the printer within the five years. In addition, the Lexmark Web site's AnswerBase provides a comprehensive list of FAQs, how-tos, dockets with device specifications, warranty extension information, and driver updates. Users having trouble with the printer can contact tech support via live chat or e-mail (they claim to respond within one business day) from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. PT weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Finally, Lexmark also offers customer service training in both their printers and general computing at designated authorized locations. Online courses are also available.

Lexmark 7675 Scores Bigtime
by newhouse1000 on November 8, 2008
Pros: Great price, quiet as a church mouse operation, fast and easy setup, Wi-Fi printing works flawlessly, ADF and 2-sided printing, digital media (SD, mini-SD, flash, all memory sticks supported, and a 5-Year warranty
Cons: Bluetooth connectivity not supported directly. Of course, there are USB adaptable Bluetooth products available, and there are AIO's do not offer full-featured fax capability that offer Bluetooth for some reason.

Summary: as a business owner in this economy, I am more than a little concerned about value and reliability in product purchases. I went back to Circuit City to get another item, saw some people in the printer's aisle looking at units, and after explaining my research and use of the 7675, they asked if I worked for Lexmark, and proceeded to buy 1 for themselves and 1 as a Xmas gift. The replacement ink seems a little pricey at black and color bundled at CC for $48. But the XL High Yield cartridges are supposed to be 2X as good as standard ones, so that's a wash. The print quality is great in pure-black and color outputs. The case is nice gunmetal gray and black, and the ADF and paper exit trays have a sturdy feel that is an order of magnitude better than other comparably priced AIO's in my opinion. The Lexmark 7675 is new in stores, and my rating is the first here. But I am a more than satisfied, and a f-year warranty is the best offered in this product category, period! Very nice piece of technology, and at $148 value point in CC, these will be very popular and scarce units once people become aware.
The 7675 does have full fax capability, as well as copy, print, scanning, and photo print via PictBridge, digital media, WiFi.

Miles better at a much welcomed fraction of the price
by OCdad on December 17, 2008
Pros: Consistent, color & photo quality trumps the Epson Artisan 800 and HP Photosmart c7280( I know I returned both before getting it right with this printer). 5 year warranty, good customer service, easy to install. Just a well made, practical printer.
Cons: Paper loader only fits 100 sheets(not bad considering the Epson Artisan 800 only takes 2-3 sheets before consistently getting jammed), and perhaps it's a tad slow but you can confidently leave the room and return with all your documents printed.
Summary: I needed Wireless, something with great picture and text quality, sub $500, and probably above all, a supremely reliable machine that can get the jobs done without any fuss.

Nice printer, but with some issues

Summary: I loved this printer when I first saw it in-store...nice clean design, nice lcd, nice build quality. After purchasing and installing, however, it has some issues. The first thing that I noticed was the delay before printing. When you hit "print", there is a noticeable delay before the printer loads the paper and the printing actually starts. The lag seems independent of the software, since this happens regardless of whether I'm using Word, Open Office, or my accounting software. Tech support indicated that this is simply a characteristic of this printer. There is also a known bug in the software driver. With my XP setup, printing envelops in Draft Mode results in text that is very light and faded in color. Other print quality modes work fine, but since I print many of my business documents in Draft, this is a problem. Tech support was able to replicate the problem when I called about it, but they were unable to determine when they might have a fix. Too bad...other than these two issues, I really like the printer. Also, Lexmark tech support was pleasant to deal with, even though they were unable to fix my printer's problems.

The best All-In-One I've ever had!!!!
by whippetone on May 13, 2009
Pros: I love:
Double sided printing!
Auto-Document feeding!
Seemingly endless Ink supply!
5 YEAR Warranty!Cons: I've yet to try faxing, but I don't atticipate a problem!
Also I'm not using it wireless so I can't comment on that feature either.Summary: I have had 3 different AIO's over the past 4 years (an HP, Epson, and another HP) and all gave me no end of trouble! Poor print quality, streaks, ...
Summary: I have had 3 different AIO's over the past 4 years (an HP, Epson, and another HP) and all gave me no end of trouble! Poor print quality, streaks, or just not working at all (BOTH HP's after 13 and 16 months, just past the end of the 12 month warranty!!)
Prior to that I had a freebie Lexmark printer that came with my then new computer. The print quality was pretty bad (what can you expect for free!) but it was still working and I used it as my back-up printer when the other three expensive ones failed me! So I thought Lexmark, I?ll give one of their printers a try. Hopefully it will keep working like the freebie so I could get my monies worth this time!
I went on cnet (Indispensable resource I always consult FIRST!! Thanks cnet!!) looking for an AIO printer they rated as ?good? or better that was preferably a Lexmark? The X7675 came up as their best AIO for my price range. I found one on sale at Office Depot, bought it, and gave it a try.
Set up was almost too easy! Right away I was printing great quality prints very fast! I know some reviewers thought the speed was slow, and I?m not a home business owner so for that crowd it might be true, but not for me; a disillusioned personal printer user who needed a die-hard work-horse! The speed was faster than all three previous AIO?s even though 1 HP cost considerably more than the Lexmark!
Scanning is easy and perfect and fast! The auto feed copier feature is really handy and makes getting copies very simple! Also now I won?t need to run to Kinko?s to fax documents any more paying $1.50 a page. (None of the other AIO?s even had fax capability!)
Then a big print job came up? I had a 300 page document that needed to be printed and so I sighed and sent it to the X7675 expecting severely depleted ink reserves after the job? I selected two sided printing (big paper savings there!) and sent it to print!
I didn?t need to baby sit the process, if fact I wasn?t even at my computer for the main part of the job? And it was done in no time!
Great quality printing, no paper errors, and I didn?t need to touch even one page to facilitate the two sided printing! But then I went to check on my ink levels?.. And to my huge shock the levels where still down only about 7%!!! In the other AIO?s if I?d had a print job like that it would have cut reserves in half!!
I?ve also never had a paper jam, or ink malfunction, or other bothersome little troubles that make you want to SCREAM! Now if this one holds up like the freebie Lexmark I?ll be happy?.
But wait!... Even if I DO HAVE a problem with it, the X7675 has a 5 YEAR WARRANTY!! That alone makes this printer I00 times better than any other printer I?ve ever had!! Go out looking and you won?t find any kind of warranty like that for this price on the market!! I guess next year I won?t have to go looking for yet another printer after having one fail?6 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Delivers with Best in Class On-line Service
by IodineHead on February 20, 2009
Pros: Performes as advertised. Troublefree double-sided printing. Ease of installation. Simple user interface.
Cons: Not designed for heavy use, e.g. double sided printing of a 50 page document must be done in 2 batches.
Summary: Would purchase again. Delivers multiple functions in a relative tight package. Software is not intrusive. Installing is painless. On-line assistance is immediate (really, they answered on the 1st ring).

Installing the softwear that came with the X7675 disabled my ENTIRE network and "killed" my wireless router while also causing my computer to freeze every time it was turned on...could only restore using "safe mode". I wasted several hours troubleshooting on my own and 2+ with Lexmark tech support before the problems were fixed.

Great Little Printer - Quiet, fast, and 5-yr warranty!

Pros: Easy installation, fast and QUIET operation, good print quality, easy to use interfaces. Lots of features.

Summary: Bought this printer after researching many, and was mainly lured by its good reviews and 5-year warranty, which is unheard of with other brands. My other home printer is a Canon MP530, which after just one year of use started making horrible grinding noises when warming up and cooling down. The noise level of the Canon is just horrendous. With the Lexmark X7675, I read in some revies that is has a quiet operation and I can confirm that it is so. The printer is very quiet when starting up and when its goes in sleep mode. The print quality is pretty good. I have set the default preferences to B&W and Draft quality to save ink. I do not plan to use it much for color, so I can't comment on that, but the sample color prints looked okay (depends a lot on paper too). The print quality is pretty good, I have printed business cards with very small fonts and they looked good to me. The printer does have wireless connectivity, however, it works with a router to wirelessly link the computer to the printer. Not sure if I can print wirelessly from my laptop to the printer without a router. For the time being I am using the supplied USB cable. The printer also came with full size ink cartridges, which is good. I paid $120 at Staples, which was a good deal. The scan seems a little slow but works well with the ADF, and files can be easily saved to PDF. All in all, a very good printer so far, and with the 5-year warranty, you can at least be assured that if even something goes wrong, you're not totally out of luck. I have only used the printer for a few days so I can't comment on long-term performance. So far so good.

Summary: Lexmark had me download a tool called 7600Slowboot.exe. I ran executable and reinstalled Printer software. FIxed boot problem for about a day but then PC would not boot. I had to powercycle PC and reboot in SAFE mode. Still would not boot until I booted in SAFE mode, last good boot. I went into Control Panel, removed Lexmark Software and returned the Printer to Best Buy. Lexmark should be ashamed of themselves. I bought a Brother HL 2170W Laser for $118. No problems with printer drivers and much better quality print.

by lantern on June 6, 2009
Pros: The ability to use WIFI is the only perk for this printer.
Cons: This printer is horrible. When copying, it takes a long time for it to start printing and the colors do not match. It take up alot of space. The fax set up was not legible; One screen came in over the other.
