A sleek sexy glossy black box loaded with features.
by vvhosyourdaddy on November 27, 2010
Pros: too easy to use, superb photo quality that can't be matched, lightning fast photo printing, various other features, great bang for your buck.
Cons: the glossy finish shows smudges easily. The PPM ISO rate isn't bad, but it could be better. It's not like a few extra pages per minute are going to ruin my day. Honestly, you need to loosen your schedule if this printer is too slow for you.
Summary: you want specs and features? go to the canon site. You want opinion on performance? read on.

You're probably wondering what the real dirt on this printer is. How are the photos? How's the speed, the quality, the ease of use? Is it worth the price? You've come to the right review. read on.
photos: 20 seconds to print a 4x6 with unsurpassed clarity and colors so accurate and rich that it looks like it came from walgreens? Is Canon crazy? Whether you print photos or not, this thing will come in handy WHEN you do.
noise: If you find yourself printing documents in the wee hours of the morning, this is the perfect printer. This has to be the quietest printer I've ever used, next to my epson NX515 which makes no sound at all, because it broke, yet again.
speed: It may not shoot out double spaced documents in a screaming blur, but it definitely will print a page in roughly five seconds. That's right, in the time it takes you to put your laptop to sleep, put it in your bag and grab your keys, it'll have your 12 page report ready to go.
resolution: What's the point in 9600 DPI when you can't even see the 1 picoliter dots? I don't know either, but it's wicked sweet. Between, us, this is one thing you won't have to worry about with canon. 9600dpi is the best you'll get even from a more expensive $250 inkjet printer.
ease of use: This is the best part of the printer. It's all touch based, and only the buttons needed will light up? Oh snap, they light up? That's right. It's a smooth flat touch sensitive surface, and they light up only when needed. This printer is so easy, a baby boomer could use it.
features: When you look up the features, look up the iphone app, the template printing, the HD movie capture....tell you what, just look them all up. Heck, let me save you the time. Just buy the blasted thing and stop reading this review.
Reliability: Canon...and that's all I have to say about quality.
ink usage: I don't know how long the ink lasts, but if I'm not too lazy, I'll come back after it finally runs out. No, wait, I stopped counting. Next batch? maybe next summer?
bottom line: This printer is perverted, selling online for $150 with all of the features it has. Here's the bott verdict on this printer. You're going to buy it, and even if you spent the full $199.99 MSRP on this printer, you're not going to feel like you just wasted money on a printer. That is unless your neighbor just bought his at Best Buy, spare ink and a 100 pack of photo paper with money to spare.
It may not get five stars, but this printer get's the Smitty stamp of approval.10 out of 10 users found this user opinion helpful.

Nice printer, very expensive ink cartridges
by asatale on February 21, 2011
Pros: Nice - fashion printer, full duplex, wifi
Cons: Very expensive ink cartridges, ink consumption too high (it consumes colour ink even if you print black and white), OCR software delivered with it very poor, Wifi does not support WPA, only WEP.

Extreamly easy to set up, load, and print! Good job!
by twillis55 on April 12, 2011
Pros: I love the self opening door. I know this sounds lazy, but I love this part of the printer. The buttons on top makes it very sleek and elegant. No need for one of those HP Touch screens.
Cons: Not seen any yet!!!
Summary: I highly recommend this product. I have only had it for about 24-hours and I know now that I will never buy an HP product ever again.

Useless unless you like paying rip off ink prices
by talk2tony on December 14, 2012
Pros: Scanner is reasonable although problems using Bluetooth with Mac.
Cons: Cannot use scanner unless there is ink. Bought new printer but now have to pay 50 dollars for ink refill just to keep using as a scanner only. Will probably opt for buying a new scanner which is cheaper than an ink cartridge lasting 30 pages
Summary: The first ever product that I have bought from a well known brand that I would consider a scam. Never touch Canon again in any form.

Worst Printer I've ever owned! Ink is VERY expensive!
by HeyItsTony on May 13, 2012
Pros: -Cool touch buttons.
-The shiny black is cool looking
-Quick & easy set up.
-Easy to use.Cons: -It's much slower than my old broken printer (My old printer was a Canon Pixma MP500).
-Fingerprint/Dust Magnet.
-Uses 6 ink cartridges
-Doesn't hold a ream of paper.
-Most aftermarket ink cartridges won't work even if they have the ID chip in them.Summary: It's not a printer for the budget conscious student. I've had to replace ALL of the ink cartridges two times now and I'm not even 1/2 ...
Summary: It's not a printer for the budget conscious student. I've had to replace ALL of the ink cartridges two times now and I'm not even 1/2 way through ONE ream of paper yet. $88 each hit (for all 6 ink tanks). You can purchase the ink cartridges each separately at a higher price. It really bothers me that I ONLY print Black text and the most frequent ink tanks that need to be replaced are Yellow, Cyan & Magenta, I've replaced those three times now while the remaining colors have been replaced twice (On 1/2 a ream of paper) The ink is set to "FAST PRINT" which is low quality print. The printer uses 2 Black ink cartridges, which surprisingly, I've only had to replace twice( in less than 1/2 ream of paper used so far). I've never tried printing photos for fear of running out of ink even quicker. It also REALLY bothers me that when the Yellow ink runs out, the printer completely refuses to print anything, not even black text, until you replace the yellow ink. And there are TWO black ink tanks in the printer. I hate this printer. It's a MONEY TRAP!

Save Time and Money
by Rakiyah on April 2, 2012
Pros: The design is really nice. I like the way it lights up, has WIFI, is easy to install, converts to PDF, scans easily and save anything from documents to pictures on flash cards and other portable memory.
Cons: Pictures print too red. The cost of the ink is outrageous and it is an ink HOG. Won't print just black and white. Won't print or scan without ALL 7 cartridges full. Way too many error codes. A real pain to own.
Summary: Nice design. Too costly and irritating to figure out the error codes and ink cartridge problems. If you want to spend $100 on ink every 50 pages or so and ...
Summary: Nice design. Too costly and irritating to figure out the error codes and ink cartridge problems. If you want to spend $100 on ink every 50 pages or so and be pissed off that you can't scan a document and save to a flash drive or computer because you ran out of ink, then buy this machine. It will give you all the headache you can stand. You would think Canon would put out an update to let the machine operate, at least scan without all 7 cartridges by now. The other thing is that the cartridges are C,M,Y,PGBK, GY, BK and if you have the PGBK and not the GY and or BK it still won't let you scan or print. What a waste of time and money. I got a Lexmark. I lets me scan, fax, print or whatever until all the ink runs out. I can print a document in all yellow if I am out of the other colors. I'm so irritated with the Canon that if some poor sucker out there still wants that machine after reading this, I will gladly sell you mine for $20 just to get it out of my house.

Strangest and worse printer ever invented
by bpeyton on March 18, 2012
Pros: Looks good, nice feature set - if they worked
Cons: Where to begin? Never works. Expensive ink. Costs about $1 page to print anything.

Summary: This is the strangest printer I have ever experienced. It works for a little bit, and then a week later, will not print, or if it prints, prints half a page and quits. It sits there clicking and whirring, and it might grab a sheet to print or it might not.
It might print five copies, or it might print four with a blank page in the middle. Or it might not print anything. Turning it on and off frequently seems to help, but who needs that? My prior PIXMA was very good, but this product is just a bad joke.
Note that the first printer was replaced after it would not print at all, including the color alignment page. The second one was not as pathetic as that, but is still nothing that should be inflicted on anyone looking for more than a boat anchor.
I will say that Canon support has actually been good - the problem is that there is only so much you can to with a complete, utter lemon. -

Summary: Don't let Canon suck you into this printer with its low price. While it's been nice wireless printer, Canon is really making its money on replacement ink. This printer consumes ink like a sailor on leave consumes alcohol, and replacement ink is outrageously expensive. I feel like Canon pulled the old "bait and switch" on me. The initial cost is low, but maintenance costs more than make up for it. This may be a short-lived printer in my household.
Word to the wise... Always check ink consumption and replacement ink cost before you buy.
