Pros: There is nothing to like about this product, as it doesn't work.
Cons: D-Link's poorly written firmware often renders the product completely useless. Also, some very important and basic features like the included "remote backup" (i.e. back up to an identical DNS-343 on your LAN) don't work!

Summary: I bought a DNS-343 for my office and spent nearly 10 weeks trying to get it to work correctly, before finally deciding to sell it and buy a Netgear ReadyNAS NV for nearly the same price from Fry's (when you factor in the included drives.) The biggest problem with the DNS-343 is its firmware which often renders the product completely useless. The firmware version that came with the product wouldn't allow me to format drives over 1TB. Once I upgraded the firmware, the unit would crash anytime time I tried to transfer large files to it. Finally, DLink fixed that problem with a beta version of the firmware, which I had to wait weeks for. So finally once they had worked out the firmware (or so I thought) I tried to perform a remote backup (an included feature) to an identical DNS-343 that I had bought to backup the first one. Even this feature failed under the best possible conditions! Terrible firmware, terrible product documentation. If you need a simple, reliable NAS for a business or home definitely do not buy this product. I spent weeks and weeks while I was setting up a small company trying to get this product to work. Buy a Netgear ReadyNas NV instead, seriously.
Pros: 4 Drive bays expandable up to 16 TB. Easy setup with software. Informative OLED display. Many different drive configurations (RAID 0, 1, 5 JBOD). Internal fan keeps drives cool, and fan is relatively quiet.
Cons: Print server is very unstable and becomes virtually useless because of the stability issues. Windows often has trouble detecting in Windows Networks w/o D-Link software. Depending on router can take enormous amounts of bandwidth when transferring.

Summary: The product was easy to setup initially with an easy to follow setup guide; however, after a period of time printers connected to the USB port seem to just not work. The web interface indicates no problems, and even clearing the print queue, and power flushing everything doesn't help. Then all of a sudden after you have spent 30-40 minutes on the phone waiting for a d-link tech rep and 10 more minutes going through things you've already tried with the rep the print server comes back to life. and then the next day you repeat. That is really the only gripe I have with this NAS drive. Everything else is great.
4 Bay NAS drive with up to 16 TB really future proofs this product (at least for a couple months ^_~). The product is really feature packed: itunes server, ftp server, advanced user settings with groups and the ability to set quotas for each user/group.
The only other thing that bugs me about this product is how it eats up bandwidth when you are transferring files onto a drive. This may be dependent on your router; however, I have a 2wire router from my ISP (Telus) and everytime I backup files to the DNS-343 it takes all the bandwidth on the network and doesn't allow any other computer/device to utilise any bandwidth. Also transfer speeds over 802.11g on a Dell Inspiron 640m maxes at about 2.4 MB/s , and 100 Mbps LAN at about 10 MB/s, not as fast as I'd like. Other computers on my network have gotten up to 20 MB/s using Windows Vista; however, the bandwidth eating problem is still there.
So if you are looking for a network drive and are not in need of a print server, and you are the only one using the network or don't do big backups then this product is quite good overall.
Summary: For $100 less you could build your own server machine and run your own software.
Crashes on R5 builds - every week or so it would stop responding, meaning I would have to turn it off at the power point and turn it back on - resulting in a R5 rebuild (took about 8 hours). This is problem known to dlink across all their DNS 343s.
The fastest this ever went was 10MB/s for both read and write - pathetic speeds.
Runs a flavour of linux, so ACLs and system/hidden files (eg thumbs.db, desktop.ini) are visible.
