D-Link ShareCenter Shadow DNS-325 NAS server (no drive included) price range: $188.00 - $304.54

The good: The D-Link ShareCenter DNS-325 offers fast performance and an easy-to-use drive bay design. The NAS server supports RAID 0 and RAID 1 configurations and can takes a very short time to build a RAID setup.
The bad: The D-Link ShareCenter DNS-325 has a limited number of features and peripheral ports. The server doesn't support top-capacity hard drives, stops serving data when changes are being applied, and its Web interface as well as share folder management could use some improvements.
The bottom line: Fast and relatively simple, the D-Link ShareCenter DNS-325 NAS server makes a good home network storage solution for data sharing, media streaming, and backups. Those who want more features and easier remote data access, however, should check out some alternatives.

Your time is valuable. Don't waste it on this one.
by citris1 on November 18, 2012
Pros: This device showed up on the network immediately.
Cons: But configuration has been a nightmare. Just can't get it to limit permissions.
Summary: I wish that I had spend a bit more money and gotten something easier to configure rather then wasting hours with this.

Lost all documents after 2 weeks - Worst tech support!!
by sunsassyca on June 21, 2012
Pros: Worked fine for a week... that is it!
Cons: Would empty folders randomly. Would have to reboot. The next day, DNS would not recognize the hard drives and I could not retrieve the documents. Everything was lost!
Tech support blamed it on wires and the power and said it couldn't be the machine!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

by MultiPak on February 3, 2013
Pros: Looks nice, style
Cons: Content, Utter rubbish, wasted a huge amount of time on this, might as well manually back-up. Lost all data, the one thing it should not do it did.
Summary: Disk is fine. Partitions exist, but cannot read in XP. Be warned Keep simple stupid or your stuffed (I did, used Standard not raid).
Will never buy DLink again, nor ...Summary: Disk is fine. Partitions exist, but cannot read in XP. Be warned Keep simple stupid or your stuffed (I did, used Standard not raid).

Problem[Both lights flashing red, have one drive HDD installed.]
Complete Manual Help [These lights will be solid when the drives are connected but inactive. The lights will blink when the drives are being accessed, formatted or synchronized. They will illuminate AMBER if a drive has failed.]
Hmmm, maybe red is amber, so my new drive failed from Western Digital after a few weeks. Then why can my XP PC see the partitions as Healthy (Unknown Partition). In effect I have to format to prove they work. So I am stuck trying to find out how to get around this.
Once you start looking for help on the web, there are so many hits on so many difference problems, I fail to see how this product is suitable for the home market.
Probably will build own network PC for backup, or god forbid the cloud, and I really do not have the time. And I am still struggling on, you have been warned! -
Fantastic Enclosure!

Pros: Easy to use, the screens are very intuitive. Everything has worked as advertised.
Cons: No Cons found yet.
Summary: The drive was easy to setup, and quick to format. I even did a quick test on the raid sync.

Good Product, easy to use\
by NAS-USER on August 15, 2011
Pros: The d-link nas325 is a good product for the price, although not perfect. The author comments that you can only create one share folder per volume is inaccurate. You can create a share folder for each user which you elect. You can allow any or none of the
Cons: The software could use some upgrading for managing the NAS. It works, but it could be even better if the management software were improved. Future versions of firmware should support 3T drives, but not as of today per D-LINK web site.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: D-Link
- Part number: DNS-325
- Description: The D-Link ShareCenter Shadow (DNS-325) is a 2-bay Network Attached Storage (NAS) device with backup and media features that make it ideal for storing, sharing and protecting valuable digital content. The ShareCenter Shadow enables users to share documents and media content such as photos, music and videos on a network or over the Internet. File access is easy and straightforward with the built-in web file server, which allows users to browse and download stored files over the Internet. The more technical user can manage the contents of their ShareCenter Shadow from any FTP client. The DLNA-certified Media Server will stream the media content in your ShareCenter Shadow to any compatible media player - such as the PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and the Boxee Box by D-Link - over your local network. The ShareCenter Shadow allows for multiple simultaneous streams, so you can watch a movie in your entertainment center while someone else listens to music streamed onto their computer. The ShareCenter Shadow can be taylored to you needs with powerful add-ons that enhance functionality and allow you to do more. Squeeze Center and Audio Streamer allow you to stream music on your home network. With AjaXplorer you can share files over the Internet on any web browser. PhotoCenter will create professional photo galleries and slideshows, and with the Blog add-on, you can create your own blog and always keep it updated. The ShareCenter Shadow is compatible with Apple's Time Machine. Users of Apple computers can use this powerful feature to backup their valuable files and computer settings directly onto the ShareCenter Shadow, or perform a full system recovery in case a computer fails. The ShareCenter Shadow comes with a Gigabit port for the fastest connectivity on your network through your router. RAID 1 technology ensures that you never lose your valuable data by mirroring the contents of one hard drive onto the other, so if one drive fails, your data is still safe. Confidentiality and integrity of files is enforced by giving rights to specific users or groups and assigning them to folders with read/write permissions. This function is ideal for the home, where children's access can be restricted to only age-appropriate materials, and ensuring that nobody can delete important files by accident. In a business environment this feature ensures that confidential information can only be accessed by authorized employees. The ShareCenter Shadow is part of D-Link Green, D-Link's program for providing eco-friendly alternatives without compromising on performance: if the hard drives are not used in a configurable period of time, or data is not being transmitted, the ShareCenter Shadow will go into stand-by mode to save power. Also, the silent fan will adapt its speed depending on the hard drives' temperature.
