Great Idea, Poorly executed
by xhotardx on February 12, 2010
Pros: Inexpensive, Supports variety of protocols for home use to high end corporate use.
Cons: Terrible Support, High Failure Rate, Poorly Implemented Software

Summary: I am working with about 20 of these units in a corporate environment. I have opened and configured 15 thus far. The configuration is very simple and can be done in about 10 minutes a unit. However, three of the units that I have opened have failing components. I am in the process of RMA'ing the failing components but the Iomega support has been TERRIBLE. The last call I had was the third call on the same issue and ended with an analyst who had no clue where in the process my RMA was.
As if that wasn't enough, some of elements within the software were very poorly implemented. First, the RSYNC backup feature will not work if you specify secured source and destination folders (which totally eliminates the point of using RSYNC to backup). Second, the device sends some alerts via SMTP which it does not send via SNMP (like backup jobs failing).4 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Affordable SOHO RAID but Noisy and Unresponsive
by ngmcnet on March 18, 2011
Pros: Good price, hard to find NAS and RAID for a SOHO application at an affordable price. Iomega has good concept in terms of features and setup. I actually like the fact they didn't make it wireless, as that tends to give people a false sense of ease.
Cons: Poor implementation, can't power USB hard drives directly, keeps grinding away and won't shut up even after canceling a file transfer to the device, loud as a popcorn maker, some software / firmware redundancies to what is built into Mac OS X.
Summary: I really liked the feature set, but given the noise and performance issues I'll be sending this NAS device back. The grinding sound when the unit wasn't supposed ...
Summary: I really liked the feature set, but given the noise and performance issues I'll be sending this NAS device back. The grinding sound when the unit wasn't supposed to be doing anything was driving me crazy, I had to unplug it stop it.

Summary: Used the NAS 2TB with windows and I did not find any hassles while setting it up. The web interface is simple and user-friendly. The device was easily recognized by the software. I could take backup from 2 computers simultaneously and at the same time browse the net. The excellent build quality makes it look sturdy and strong. It comes with a 3 year warranty. This is a great buy for the price.

Summary: The Iomega StorCenter Pro ix2-200 is a simple, inexpensive, well-built, easy-to-use, network attached storage device. It is easy to set up. But, the setup assistant doesn't work on a wireless network. Your machine has to be wired to the router in order to recognize the storecenter. I use this in my office. It runs quiet and does not turn hot after long hours of usage. The bottom line is that this is a spectacular product from Iomega and, with further upgrades to come, will only get better.

Summary: I have a lot of printing work to do and have about five printers attached to my five computers. When someone told me that the Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 would support three printers at a time, I was thrilled. Checked the specs and found it to be true. Now I have my Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 right here doing the job.
Apart from the print server, this storage device provides security for my work and I can access the work on all the five computers. The RAID configs are suited for data protection and it has a RAID rebuild feature too. If you are keen on surveillance cameras, then the StorCenter is the right choice. It can support up to five Axis IP security cameras. I have one surveil camera in my studio and it works fine. Definitely worth the money spent! Helps me keep an on eye on whatz going on. Audio and video streaming is easy flow, may be because it is tested for quality and is UPnP DLNA certified. It is 2 TB but if I want to add storage space I can do it. Yes, I just had to attach my external USB H drives and therez more space. The documentation could have been more elaborate because this device has a number of features and not all of them are included. Very easy to start on and get going!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Sharing stuffs on a common network is a good deal. But getting a nas device to do it flawlessly is not easy. At one stage or the other, there will be a failure and it conks up the system. I wanted a nas device which will not eat up room space while it will make my network accessible from anywhere. This instrument satisfies both these aspects. Compared to the complaints of device getting heated and so on, I dint experience it so I guess it could be due to many other external factors like location of workstation, use of additional equipments near the device, too many computers in the same environment or suchlike..i just guess these reasons. Mine is a three-comp setup, with routers and power lines not too far from each other and the device. Hooked it up for time-machine backup, personal and professional data sharing and web access. Had no issues with it. So far so good.
