The bad: The LaCie Network Space 2 has limited amount of storage and features and only one USB port. Its performance could also be better.

Summary: It took me long time to find the NAS drive that I was looking for. I've considered several different options and decided to go for LaCie Network Space 2. I needed something easy to connect to the network and easy to manage, something that works equally well with Mac and PC. I've got the unit several months ago. The setup was done in literally minutes. Very easy. The user interface is just great very intuitive and fully customizable. It's been working flawlessly. I'm impressed with the quality, speed and performance. I would definitely buy again.

Summary: The unit worked out of the box and was extremely easy to set up. I love the way it works on the network, I plug it into the router, organize downloads directly to the Network Space, power down my PC, and the unit works like a charm, at the same time I save running the PC for lengthy downloads.

Great for accessing from internet, otherwise rubbish
by gw1zzer on November 23, 2011
Pros: This has excellent features for accessing your files from the internet. It autoconfigures connections and enables you to share photos etc with friends
Cons: It's broke. Retrieving the hard drive to extract the data required some special patience to not break the case, although as the controller is shot ... the case went in the bin.
Samsung Hard Drive is fine though and is plugged into my desktop.Summary: There are much better drives out there with controllers that last. Although to be fair, I did like the simple interface from a user perspective. However, I would guess this ...
Summary: There are much better drives out there with controllers that last. Although to be fair, I did like the simple interface from a user perspective. However, I would guess this lasted about 2-3 years ..., which seems to be common for this style of NAS drives. I have had a few Western Digital world books do the same on me.
Checking a Synology NAS now, but will be looking for another NAS which enables me to share my photos with my friends and family -

Pros: Looks good and has a nice blue light
Cons: Takes ages to copy data. Wake on LAN doesnt work. Turning on is a pain you press and hold the little button on the back until the drive spins up. If you hold this for too long the drive does a firmware reset and you loose all your settings. then you have

Great at first until you actually need to use it.
by lu_sse on September 19, 2011
Pros: Quiet, compact, easy to setup and use.
Cons: Becomes a nightmare when you actually start having 2TB of data on it. The transfer speeds are then 2-5MByte/s, any operation take ages.
Firmware updates mess up your data and it takes days to copy from one "side" (myshare) to another (openshare) the filSummary: Avoid this one. Looks pretty but its devil in disguise.

AjaxBrowser is the only way to do local file operations - for example copy files to and from the USB disk.
The problem is that once a operation is started you have no control over it and it might take days for example to copy hundreds of gigs of files - meanwhile your disk practically becomes iresponsive and you have no way to stop it. -

Summary: This NAS is great. I've bought it a year ago and it's been working great. The set up was easy. I've connected another 1TB drive to it via USB port to increase the capacity and hooked it up to the router. I've been using this NAS primarily as a file server, streaming to the media player that is connected to my HD TV. The device is also easily accessible remotely. Performance has been very good. I'm very satisfied with this device. I highly recommend this NAS to anyone considering network storage.

Summary: Network space was very easy to install. I've uploaded my entire music collection to it. Still have plenty of storage space left. This thing works great and I was able to create the centralized media server, which was the main reason I bought it for. This NAS is a very cool product. Highly recommended.

Slow, noisy, unreliable - just not worth the hassle.
by endevol on May 23, 2011
Pros: Easily configured when new, on WinXP - plug and play. Cheap-ish.
Cons: Noisy - with a Seagate Barracuda 1TB installed it emitted a continuous loud drone. The drive appeared to be continuously accessing - more noise. It wouldn't turn off with the power switch (hard reset required every tiime). It's slow, even across a wire

Summary: Don't take my word for it, have a look on Google what problems others have had with these units. LaCie make a lot of fuss about this unit having been 'designed by Neil Poulton' (whoever he is). I guess he decided to put it in a shiny black box. I'd much rather they had 'designed by a competent engineer' on the box instead.
