Buy ReadyNAS and spend your life troubleshooting!

Pros: 1. Learnt never to buy into Netgear again.
Cons: 1. No support
2. Worked fine for 1 month then spent 3 months fixing it.
3. Supports solution for everything is "Factory Reset"
4. Lost all data 4 times in the 3 months it was being fixed.
5. Bad, ugly, interface and lacks progress indicators.

Summary: We had 3 of these units ready to setup replication. What a nightmare! It worked well for about 4 weeks then one by one every device failed. After a solid 6 months of email's to support and the constant escalation Netgear finally sent out a L3 to personally fix all issues and replication. The technician spend 3 full days and left with everything still being broken. After another month things were finally working for only 2 weeks this time till everything broke again. Most unreliable device and waste of money i've ever had to deal with.

Seriously flawed, completely unreliable.

Pros: None. Zip. Nada. Zilch.
Cons: Poor support. Alarming failure rate on hardware. Data not always readable when backups completed.

Summary: The essence of a product like this is reliability... it's a backup device and should be there when your primary service fails. I inherited 3 of these from another admin and lost track of all the time spent on support trying to get them to work. When they finally did, the drives would start to fail and were expensive to replace. This product line does not belong on the market at all.

Cons: Tech support aggressive and rude, getting a level 2 or gasp level 3 to help is next to impossible. Lost ALL of our data with the guidance of level 1 tech. Do not do not use this device

Summary: I just bought a readynas duo and tried to use my existing 2 hdd's WD (which i found after that are on the compatibility list....my fault I admit, but still the compatibility is quite short). After doing some research i found out that i can make it work by downgrading the firmware. After 3 days time lost, everything was finally ok. I did the upgrade back and the nas wasn't responding at all. I tried to shut ot down, no success. I've decided to unplug the power (bad decision). The nas is dead. When i press the power button, the fan starts, but no lights are coming on. Again some time lost to find and try some os reinstall, but no luck. Hardware failure. So bottom line: 200 euros thrown in the toilet and 4 days, still lucky that didn't happened with loosing data. Now i look for another brand.

Chronic serious issues, and no help from support.

Pros: Two pros:
1. The device worked properly for 1 month (unfortunately it's been broken for 3 months).
2. There was one really good tech support guy I worked with, but I only had him for a short time. All the rest have been unresponsive and ineffective.
Cons: I purchased a NetGear ReadyNAS Ultra 4+ in March 2011. It worked well for about one month, then started having problems. It was replaced once. It is now mid-July, and the device is still broken and unusable. Tech support has been slow, unresponsive,
Summary: Based on my experience, I would STRONGLY urge everyone to avoid the NetGear ReadyNAS devices. Try a different brand.
