QNAP TS-412 Turbo NAS server price range: $359.99 - $526.04

The good: The QNAP TS-412 Turbo NAS server has an excellent drive bay design. The server is relatively fast and offers lots of advanced features, such as RAID configurations, iSCSI, the MyCloudNAS service, and support for Apple's Time Machine and four IP cameras for a surveillance system.
The bad: The QNAP TS-412's performance could be better and its surveillance application could use some improvement. The server isn't for novice users and its operating system is selectively buggy.
The bottom line: The QNAP TS-412 makes a very good NAS server for environments where advanced network storage is needed.

Pros: -iSCSI targets
-RAIDs 0/1/5/6 support

-Many if not all home applications, FTP, HTTP,uPNP, and moreCons: -You must take the time to learn about the advanced features this product provides.

Summary: This device is extremely capable and flexible for any home or small office application. I purchased this device to run a VMware cluster environment and it puts some higher end storage arrays to shame. The performance is what you would expect from a dual 1Gbps teamed interface. Plain and simple it is a great device especially for the price tag. If this unit had dual controllers and dual power supplies i wouldn't hesitate to reccomend this for all my VMware deployments for up to 30 virtual machines.
I wanted to add an update: When using dual NIC trunking there are several supported protocols and only 801.3ab requires a capable switch, all other supported methods with the TS412 do not require a managed switch! happy trunking.
If you are looking for a simple 'one-button and its working' option you may as well use an external USB HDD. That being said, there is no reason anyone cannot learn how to use this device. This is not a bad thing. take a few hours and read about every feature this unit can support and if those features are what you need or may need in the future Ignorance is no excuse to pass on this device.

Got one BUT Qnap changes HD compat so I got a BRICK

Pros: 1:Quiet
2:4 bay drive
3:DUAL gigabyte network connections (but need a router/switch that supports it...duh...expensive to get one)Cons: 1:Harddrives listed (Seagate GREEN 2TB drives @$80 each) all of a sudden become UNLISTED. Bought them because they WERE but Qnap changed listing.2T|SEAGATE ST2000DL003 64M

Summary: I do NOT recommend to anyone who has multiple Apple's to use this as a NAS thinking it would be easy. I have a Dlink DNS-323 that is a plain, simple NAS. Turn it on, copy files to it and hey, it's a RAID 1 mirrored 1TB/1TB setup. Simple. If you got a pc, then fine but some of us have multiple iMacs/macbooks,etc and don't want to just use a Time Capsule (that only has 1 disk in it). Better to get a synology DS411j (it "appears" to work in a Apple environment SOME what.
Should have waited for the Thunderbolt RAID arrays to come out. Would have worked better in a MAC world.
And be/will be faster than a gigabyte network.
Will be my next purchase.
I am not knockin' Qnap....fine product, energy efficient and all but NOT for a home user. For a SMB who has a IT guy show up once a month, it would be good (in a PC world) but it's not for the faint of heart or those that just like to turn things on and it work. Period.
