Very deceiving product

Pros: Relatively easy setup
Cons: No value. Actually makes coverage worse.
Summary: Simply does not work, similar to other reviews. Owned it for about 6 months. It connects, so you think it is improving network coverage. However, we have had MORE problems. ...

Summary: Simply does not work, similar to other reviews. Owned it for about 6 months. It connects, so you think it is improving network coverage. However, we have had MORE problems. Sitting in the room with unit plugged in, signal strength will vacillate between 75% to 20%... without out the unit plugged in, the signal strength is a consistent 70%. I have been a big fan of cisco/linksys over the years, but this product -- because it so poor -- will probably dissuade me from buying this brand anymore.

Summary: Over the years I have used many networking products, wired or wireless, be it Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, Aztech. Among all these brands, I trusted Linksys the most. It's the most reliable out of all the brands I have tried, not until today. Because no matter how bad the networking products are, they never push me to the stage to smash it into pieces, and Linksys RE1000 is the only one. It is the biggest fraud Linksys ever created. One day it's working without any problem, the next day it keep disconnecting or can't connect at all. One hour it's working fine, the next minute it's disconnecting for more than 10 times (I lost count). The catch is, the settings are the same! Don't waste your money, time on this so called wireless expander/repeater. It's pointless, hopeless, useless. Read CISCO forum and you will find just how many users can't ever get it to work. Bear in mind I am using a Linksys router, so there shouldn't be any compatible issue. I wish I can give it zero star.

Had to contact Cisco to set up with Mac OS Lion
by cswigart on November 28, 2011
Pros: Easy to set up once Cisco explained how.
Improves signal at far end of large house.
No noticeable loss of internet speed.
Cons: No simple online explanation of how to set up with Mac OS Lion.
Online information makes what is simple seem very complicated.
Summary: As with other Linksys wireless networking devices, I long for a simple step by step explanation of how to set it up.
It would be helpful in some instances if ...

It would be helpful in some instances if Linksys/Cisco would explain the pros and cons of various security settings.

In a word? "Worthless"
by fredeferg on May 4, 2012
Pros: Convenient networking paper weight.
Cons: It was a pain to setup. The only reason I didn't just buy a router and configure it as a bridge was because I couldn't be bothered with the config. Now it drops connection with my Apple devices AND the freaking Cisco logo keeps flashing annoyingly.

So far it has been worthless.
by mcmildc on January 17, 2012
Pros: None, it seems to have to be within 20 feet of the router to get a decent signal strength.
Cons: Cisco support have been worthless. They can't access my registration to get the serial number since it is different dept. No help after a long wait!
Summary: I am not sure what good this would be to anyone. So far it has not helped give any extension to the router (which is a new E4200V2).

So far 3 Live Chat sessions with Cisco support but no help. Maybe number 4, 5 or 6 will be the one

a bit large, isn't dual-band like my router
