So far so good
by teedo on January 24, 2010
Pros: Looks nice :-)
Call quality seems a little better then a cell phone but just under a landline
It's free!
Setup was fairly easly and only took about 15 minutesCons: I wish there was a better way to pick your number. They want you to enter your area code AND the first 3 prefix you would like....well none of the prefixes I knew were available. I ended up just putting in the are code and searching.

Summary: I just bought the ooma telco at Best Buy last week on sale for $199. I have been looking for about a year for a cheap VOIP that is easy for my wife to use. I have tried skype with a d-link usb adapter but then you need to have your computer on all the time and dialing was not user friendly (took about 12 digits). My company has Vonage and we love it however I did not want to pay $17.99 + tax and fees (it was right around $25 a month) for a phone I may only use a couple times a month. Like most people we rely heavily on our cell phones however with young children we wanted to make sure we had a phone accessible to anyone at the house (babysitters/parents). I have the comcast economy internet service and the phone seems to work decent. I have noticed twice where it seems to phase out a second and then come back, I have talked on it a lot so it was not to concerning to me. It very easy once setup, no need for the area code to local numbers, caller ID works fine, hooked up regular cordless phones with no problem and its free with the basic service. I like it a lot and no complains from anyone who has used it. I figure at $200 it will pay for itself in about 8 months so after that it will truly be free phone service.

Great value, great sound, hate forced sign up 4 primier.
by itasq on February 4, 2011
Pros: The Ooma Telo was easy to setup. the sound quality is exellent. I was able to choose a phone number in my area with ease, something that I couldn't do with magic jack. The box connects diretly into your network, no computers have to be left on.
Cons: Ooma charges extra $10 a month for features that you should get free. The Ooma add on handsets aren't that great.
Summary: As good and as reliable as a land line without the cost.

I got most the extra features that Ooma wants you to pay $10 extra a month for by buying a Panasonic 6582 cordless phone system. I get block calls, blue tooth sync with 2 cell phones (able to answer and place calls from my cell phones from any cordless phone in the house), phone directory (downloaded from my cell phones contact list). the only real feature that I lost not using Ooma's premier service and their handset is the extra virutal phone line.
The cost: $199.00 Ooma Telo,
$89 Panasonic 6582 cordless phone system (two handsets),
$3.50 a month for local & federal taxes. it will have paid for itself after 9 months of use.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Fairly good - so far
by danphx1 on December 19, 2009
Pros: Easy to connect, slick style and great low cost service when you pay full year in advance!
Cons: Some issues - callers report that "at times" when they call they get a fax signal - even though there is no fax connected. But if they call back it goest thru. Techs say may be a routing issue. Contacts can't be uploaded to handheld yet - but soon.
Summary: If you want a great low cost - slick style unit - then this is it! Love the features of emailing mp3 of voicemail to my blackberry, like the "multi ...
Summary: If you want a great low cost - slick style unit - then this is it! Love the features of emailing mp3 of voicemail to my blackberry, like the "multi ring" where it will ring cell and home at same time and can answer from any phone. Sounds like from speaking to techs that more advanced features are coming down the pike.

Beware of negative option subscription scam
by jfkarlson on October 12, 2011
Pros: Easy to install. Reasonable sound quality.
Cons: I generally disregard what appear to be promotional emails from service providers like Ooma. Today I just happened to open one from Ooma explaining that they would start billing me $9.99/month for my Premiere subscription unless I went online and changed
Summary: Good service but watch out for surprise fees.

Ooma works as promised.
by hawk318 on September 9, 2011
Pros: Cheap, good voice quality, easy to install.
Cons: Overseas tech support sometimes difficult to understand, getting in touch with the CA, HQ is next to impossible.

Summary: I installed Ooma in less than 15 minutes and have my whole house (4) phones hooked to it (so far, so good) Ooma's overseas tech support was effective, but found problems with the "number porting" on their web site. Even Ooma's overseas techs couldn't port my current phone number.
I called the California HQ number on Ooma's site and the only options are....talk to someone you know the ext of....or "leave a message and someone will call you back shortly" After 2 calls and a reply to an email from Ooma's HQ thanking me for becoming an Ooma member....I still have not heard boo from the main company HQ so I could tell them "There is a serious problem that might be costing you money on your web site..... Which makes me wonder, does Ooma really care?
The product is fine, the tech support...typical overseas support, if you run into somethin their techs can't solve.... forget it.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great phone replacement
by tnewt on May 21, 2011
Pros: Good wired phone replacement--low cost plus lots of features. Sound quality is good. No problems so far.
Cons: Like any VOIP system, probably doesn't work so well if your Internet connection is questionable. I haven't had a problem.
Summary: Why, oh why, hasn't AT&T offered VOIP type features with their old, reliable wired phone customers? Do they think we'll keep paying the same amount each ...
Summary: Why, oh why, hasn't AT&T offered VOIP type features with their old, reliable wired phone customers? Do they think we'll keep paying the same amount each month while our friends get free US calls, low cost international calls, can get their phone messages off the net, and more and more features added all the time. How expensive would it cost them to add these features compared to building up their Uverse system, which will take forever to cover all their customers. Don't they realize that once they lose these customers they are probably gone for good, so when Uverse finally gets to them it is too late?
Okay, off my soapbox.
Anyway, I don't like getting phone calls from other than close friends or important contacts on my cell phone, because otherwise I get all these calls I don't want when I'm at work. So I usually give out my home phone number when forms ask for the phone number. But what if one of these companies needs to call me during the day some time? With Ooma, I can check my messages online, or even have them emailed to me. Of course call forwarding is included--even multi-ring (have call ring at home and on the cell).
All these features and it costs much less than AT&T. What about power outages? I plug the Ooma and cable modem into a UPS. Reliability? Sound quality? So far no problems, and the sound is great.
AT&T reliability with their aging copper wire system has a lot to be desired. I had my phone go out, and their automated sevice system said they would be out in one week to fix it, and they would be there within an 8 hour window so I had to stay home all day! Then they didn't even show up until the next day! I had no phone for a week. So much for wired reliability. Who knows what phone calls I missed.
If Ooma goes out, at least your phone calls still go into their on-line voice mail system.
I have the Teleo box and have plugged in my own Panasonic wireless phone.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Terrible-awful.
by DakotaFlyer1 on January 14, 2011
Pros: Nothing I can think of.
Cons: Every second or third call was dropped (including to ooma to try to resolve problems), many voice cut-outs, voice quality was poor (scratchy, warbling, echos, etc.). Their tech support was no help.
Summary: ooma doesn't work--at least on a Comcast High Speed line. I struggled for almost 3 months to get ooma to work on Comcast High Speed Internet connection. I made ...
Summary: ooma doesn't work--at least on a Comcast High Speed line. I struggled for almost 3 months to get ooma to work on Comcast High Speed Internet connection. I made over 30 contacts with their technicians trying to resolve dropped calls, voice cut-outs, warbling, scratchiness, etc., etc. We tried a new Telo unit, got off the surge protector, changed the Telo settings, etc. Nothing worked. Back to Comcast digital voice--the best.Plus, their techs kept trying to tell me it was the phone wiring in my house, when Comcast digital voice worked for over 3 years without a hiccup. Does ooma think I re-wired my house? Then they told me it was the Internet signal, when the download, upload, ping, jitter and packet-loss test results were A+ on 8-10 tests, and the Comcast digital voice worked fine using the same internet connection. Good thing Costco has a 90 day return policy. This was just Nuts.

Best product available in the Market.
by patel555 on September 25, 2010
Pros: In this slow economy, who would give you such kind of service for free. Its a must buy for everyone, who's looking to save atleast $40 a month.
Cons: Can't complain with this kind of free service.
Summary: We hope that this company survives since it is giving the service for free. Can't afford to see Ooma go away. We thank you Ooma.

Will pay for itself after 5 months.
by keithbrink on May 8, 2010
Pros: Will save $50/mo on my comm budget going from DSL/Phone to Ooma/cable modem 15x faster. $600/yr is nothing to sneeze at. Ooma Telo is cool and functional, handset is nice 2. Works well with my present Panasonic 6.0 phone system. Good Choice I made
Cons: Have had one minor glitch that resolved itself when the call was repeated.
Summary: Wife and I love the handset contact list, I like the voice mail to email option too. Can buy the Ooma Telo from Amazon or Ebay and save $50 off ...
Summary: Wife and I love the handset contact list, I like the voice mail to email option too. Can buy the Ooma Telo from Amazon or Ebay and save $50 off retail. I opted for Premium service because of all the features that I liked. The setup was 10 minutes and worked flawlessly. Tech support via email on how to sync handset with contact list was excellent.
