Bad Router

Pros: Easy installation

Cons: Bad connectivity. The connection keeps dropping and is very slow when it does connect.

Summary: I bought this router from TigerDirect for $19.99 after $20 mail in rebate recently. The connection of this router keeps dropping all the time. also after it connects, the speed is very less. It's as good as dial up connection. Sometimes you have wait over a minute for a single page to load. I wouldn't recommend this router to anybody. This is certainly not for people buying their first router.

When I first installed the router, I didn't set any password for it. As an unsecured networked it worked fine but the moment I set the password (WPA-PSK) for the network, the connection kept dropping every minute and the whole experience was very annoying. I removed the password and surfed fine for next few days. Couple of days back I again tried setting a password (WEP this time) and it's working fine.

Summary: I got this from Futureshop on special for $10 with a USB adapter. Can't beat that price.
Nice little router. I got very good reception on this router, even better than the Linksys I had before. I had this at a corner in the basement and I am still having good reception on my second floor bedroom. Setup was quite easy. Just make sure you add your router IP to the trusted site in your personal firewall (if you have one).
Technical support was very friendly and they really try to help but the line is always tied up. Do leave a message, they do call back and follow up.

Summary: I picked this router up from CompUSA for $9.99 (after rebate). It was extremely easy to install, the wireless cards in my 2 other desktops & my laptop automatically picked up the signal (unencrypted). There was a small bump when I enabled the encyption WEP/WPA I believe that had to do with the different operating systems (win98se, xp & linux) the computers were running, but 128bit WEP encryption seems to be working fine. The wireless signal seems to be strong all through the house in an average 2 story home.

Awsome 10$ DSL special with usb (place me high in the apartment)

Pros: Not strong enough to emit through apartment dwelling and have other people hack into your system. Still works great and I have used it as a wireless access point for 3 computers.

Cons: Not decent enough to far reaching range (IE 35 Ft) . No built in firewall. Not compatible through floors. Not ideal for file transfer. Not reccomended for cable internet users

Summary: Overall best suited for apartment dwellings and I personally like it for my wireless access point. I find if you have the bigger and more expensive varieties in an apartment you may run into other people trying to link into or tap into your computer. (if you do not know what you are doing). Simple installation plug and play. Attatch modem to wireless router in non WAN port and let your computer attatch to default (DSL secured, not cable)

Summary: Might be adequate for someone who does little more than light surfing, but for anyone who needs p2p, even if it's just to get the latest Linux distro a bit faster, this is useless. Unstable connexion which is slow to boot. Download speeds were less than 1/3d what I had with my old router.... Just re-installed the old one and am wondering if the Trendnet will be a useful paperweight.

Summary: After buying this router at futureshop for $10, I connected it and never realy used it as a wireless device. I was surprized at the inability to set the wireless protection type to WEP on firefox, a well known browser that has 15% usage and rapidly growing.

After finaly tring the thing out, I found that the wireless connection was unbeleaveable. It could barely connect from any distance, and would drop out very often, several times a minute sometimes. When it did manage to connect, which takes longer than usual on other routers, I could only get 10kb/s max, which is about 60X slower than my internet goes at. This is equvilant to that of dialup, and can be considered less if you factor in the constant dropouts.

I have plenty of expirence with different wireless devices, and I have had much better expirences with much cheaper wireless "b" devices. A friend of mine also bought one of these, and expirences the same issues.

I have tested it in a mostly interference free zone, and with different configurations, but I have found this unit to be unfit for wireless use.

I highly recommend finding a cheap b router on e-bay instead of this thing, even if its $10 more, its worth your money and effort.

Unreliable

Cons: MyePets.com doesn't work. Don't expect any help from horrible non existent Customer Support.

Summary: I emailed Support that my son can't login to MyePets.com using router with latest firmware. Works without router. No replies after 1 week and 3 emails to them. Unit gets hot underneath so flipped it upside down to cool down bottom. This is my 3rd router and know how to manually configure everything via web but had to use wizard to get wireless PC's to connect for some reason.

Very good performance with an EXCELLENT price

Pros: Low price, user interface (web based UI) is very good. Firmware is upgradeable easily. Performs excellently in a 1500 sq ft 3 bedroom apartment using a medium sized home network (5-10 computers)

Cons: Wireless signal strength only average. Router seems cheaply made and is very light. The need to reboot after just about all changes in settings.

Summary: Works excellently with just about every computer and adapter combination I've tried (easily over 50 computers have been connected to this router). Performance was improved with a crap old TI based 802.11g PCI card after latest firmware upgrade - a pleasant surprise. Has been running stably over 1 year with minimal reboots (none of its own fault). This router has replaced some greats such as the BEF11S4 and WRT54G from Linksys and some Netgear routers and has performed just as well or better, and more reliably. This router was an excellent surprise as I did not expect it to be so good at this price point. (Note: I have revision B of the router, there are 3 revisions, A B and C which I believe rev. A was not good).
