Acer C7 Chromebook price range: $199.00 - $229.79

The good: The Acer C7 Chromebook's very affordable price is its best asset, plus it's got plenty of ports and a large hard drive. It boots up quickly and is simple to use.
The bad: Saddled with an ugly design, finicky touch pad, and short battery life, this feels like a far cry even from most budget laptops. The Chrome OS is still too limiting, though it's made some strides in a year.
The bottom line: At $199, the Acer C7 is an attractive proposition for anyone looking for a supercheap portable laptop, but the Chrome OS and short battery life mean you'll have to accept a lot of compromises.

Very usable, Inexpensive, Upgradeable Chromebook!

Summary: I originally bought the thin Samsung Chromebook..but returned it a few days later. 16gb of local storage and a washed out matte display wasn't very exciting. I switched to the Acer C7 because it offered more usable features for daily use (Ethernet, VGA etc.).
I am also not a "Weight-Weenie" and can handle transporting a 3 pound device without a problem haha!
I put the $50 savings towards a 64GB SSD and a 8GB DDR RAM upgrade. This gave me 10GB of RAM total. I then installed Ubuntu 12.04 Unity (dual booted). Now that Ubuntu is installed..it works like a normal laptop.
I also found that saving movies locally and trying to play them using the Chrome OS was weak. It only played AVI files.
Once Ubuntu was installed.. I was able to play all my movies locally using the VLC video player =D

Don't buy from Google Play

Pros: The price is awesome, if only it wasn't broken.
Cons: It arrived broken and Google Play customer support was the worst ever.

With upgrades - close to an Ultrabook for about $300!

Pros: Easily upgradable memory and drive (voids warranty however)
Intel Dual-core Celeron 847, NM70 Intel HD graphics outperforms other low-end CPU
Dual bootable to Linux (ChrUbuntu) with dead simple installation script (google it)
Crisp displayCons: Battery life is shorter than Samsung

Summary: I needed Ultrabook convenience without the overkill and found it here. I upgraded to 8GB DDR3 Dual Channel memory (for $32) and a 120GB SSD (for $80) and this thing smokes on both ChromeOS and ChrUbuntu. I had no problem upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 and adding the Cinnamon desktop. Office 2010 runs fine with PlayOnLinux and just for fun, I ran WinXP in a VMware box allocating both cores and it ran just fine. I couldn't be happier!

Great notebook for the money.

Pros: Fires up fast.
Plenty of storage.
Great for taking into a wi-fi hotspot and taking care of biz.
Built well for the price.
Good quality LCD screen.
Plenty of USB ports.
VGA port.
Card reader.
HDMI port and others.
Linux compatibility.Cons: Mouse pad takes some getting used to.
Limited to apps.

Summary: I am very pleased with the Acer C7. I haven't had a single problem with it so far. It appears that I'm getting 5 hours of battery life consistently, which is a tad more than predicted. To me, the lower battery life is a good trade off considering the plusses over the Samsung model.
It's so funny to read all these reviews written by people that act as though they would rather scoop dog poop barehanded than touch an Acer product. They always tout the Samsung Chromebook in what's supposed to be Acer Chromebook reviews. Well...I bought a lower end Samsung phone ($89.00) and it came with a browser that that won't even let you access the account that you are using the phone with. Almost all sites you visit will cause a popup to appear telling you that you don't have the memory to access the site. This is with an 8 gig micro sd card. Brand new and the phone would shut down when you closed the slider. I had to shim the battery with a piece of cardboard to keep that from happening. A minute and a half to send a 50k picture...if it sends the picture at all. I could go on and on. The last thing I want is another low end Samsung item.
So...anyhoo...my advice is that if money is a concern and you want an item that functions very well for the price, buy the Acer C7.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Buy it at a great price

Pros: easy to use. if you use chrome or gmail it is worth it. I am a lawyer who knows nothing about programming etc. but find this a very useful machine
Cons: Needs more apps. Battery life is fine except during super-storms I can plug it in at home.

Nice keyboardCons: Switching between windows (if on a flash site) can be slow at times, inability to save gets in the way sometimes, and you should buy an external mouse as the mouse shipped on is hard to get used to.

Summary: I got this laptop as a replacement for my netbook (Dell Mini) and have been pleasantly surprised with the boot time and the speed of the computer-- I go back and forth between both computers to send files and that at times can be a pain. Sometimes switching tabs from different websites (netflix, youtube, flash like sites) takes a bit. The mouse it ships with (trackpad) is a bit hard to use, so if you haven't ventured to a trackpad yet I'd recommend using a USB or Bluetooth mouse (it supports either)
Any site can be viewed--- it's basically a computer, that can't store anything/
Many apps are available for your needs on the PLAY store you can download & integrate right into your Chrome browser.
Nothing really bad with this laptop. Cheap and gets the job done for what I need it for.

I could use it as a doorstop for a similar cost. That's about half the value of the unit.

Pros: Speed of boot up time, ease of operation, ability to save to hard drive and organize files. My flashdrives and peripherals, e.g. Verizon internet card for sites where there is no wi-fi available are functioning fine as well.
Cons: Would like to be able to use program such as Acrobat pro for.pdf handling.
