The good: The new 11-inch Apple MacBook Air is dramatically faster than last year's version, has a backlit keyboard, and comes with a high-speed Thunderbolt I/O port.
The bad: The $999 entry-level Air still has the same limited fixed flash storage and RAM as last year's version, which most people will want to upgrade from--and there's still no SD card slot, Ethernet port, or 3G wireless option.
The bottom line: This year's 11-inch MacBook Air improves on last year's model in several significant ways and is by far the fastest ultraportable you're likely to find, though some users will consider the limited flash storage space to be a hindrance.

Perfect for students, Bloggers, traveler, busines folk.

Pros: I7, SSD, Thin & Light, Backlit keyboard, Lion. I'm a student and this computer is perfect for my daily use. Web browsing, emails, music, HD movies, basic picture editing, Excel & Word. This computer is so small I'm able to use in car, office, s

Summary: This computer is perfect for basic, everyday computing. It's extremely portable, sometimes I carry on my bag, and I don't even notice is there. Although is light and portable, it has the right amount of computing power. I even sometimes find myself not only doing school work on this, but also bring it to the office, to do my work on it, since the computer at work is so old.

Best Portable Computer Money Can Buy
by mxidis88 on August 10, 2011
Pros: The size to power ratio is the best you can find...It really is faster anything else you can buy at this size.
Full, Backlit keyboard is a dream for typing out term papers and my thesis.
Lion and the 11" Air were made for each otherCons: Not upgradable after initial purchase.
If you're used to a 13" size trackpad(macbook pro/air 13") the 11" can feel a bit cramped.Summary: I have used a 13" Air (2010 model) and a fully upgraded 13" Pro (2011 model) and I just bought this 11" model to bring to school. If you plan ...
Summary: I have used a 13" Air (2010 model) and a fully upgraded 13" Pro (2011 model) and I just bought this 11" model to bring to school. If you plan on storing days worth of media on this little computer I would recommend the pro, but if you're looking for something that is super portable(I hate having the weight of a full size laptop in my bag+books+notebooks, and I just couldn't stand using a netbook with a smaller keyboard and smaller specs) this is the laptop for you...highly recommend that you go in to the apple store before you buy so that you know what you're getting...
So after about a week of using this at work and school I've found that the advertised 5 hrs. battery life is a fair assessment. It's just not enough for how I use it. I have since taken it back to the Apple Store and traded it in for the 13" which offers 2hrs. more of battery life. The size is a bit much, but the trade off in battery life is better for me...

Summary: I have been a dedicated PC person since the mid '80s while my wife and kids have been Mac fanatics. I needed a new lightweight laptop for business travel as my Sony Viao Z (< 3lbs with optical drive) was starting to show its age. I was researching the new ultra books and the vast majority of reviews used the Air as the benchmark, and it kept coming out on top. I have had a lot of exposure to Macs (and other Apple equipment and devices) because that is what my family uses; in short, the user experience and reliability problems (particularly with our iMac and Airport) has not left a good impression.
However this Air has been fantastic (it is fully loaded). Its primary use is for business travel, so primary programs used are Outlook plus Excel, Word and Powerpoint editing, web surfing, video calls, and occasionally Netflix. -
Absolutely loving this MacBook AIr!!!!
by TomJones99 on January 13, 2012
Pros: Amazing display in all lighting conditions
SSD Storage for speedy and quiet opperation
intel i5 for good performance with Turbo Boost
Excellent tactile keyboard with backlighting for use in darkened conditions
Good battery life 7Hrs
iCLOUD !!!Cons: The loss of a dedicated Graphics Processor means it doesn't run SIMS for my daughter with quite the graphics capability of her white MacBook.
Summary: It's amazining!

If you don't need massive storage on the Notebook (using NAS at home or tower PC/Mac) then go for the AIr over the Pro unless your a heavy Laptop Gamer.
Got myself a 13" MacBook Air for Xmas to help with my MSc Studies and as the daughter has a MacBook at her mum's she can use the MacBook Air at my house and utilise the CLOUD to continue with homework etc. Absolutely loving this MacBook AIr!!!! I've got PAGES etc so I can start drafting assignments on my iPAD and continue their development on my MacBook. I've added the full Office Suit for more sofisticated work particularly using EXCEL for my MSC Project analysis. And the App Store is great to download additional app and games etc And you know everything off the App Store is SAFE as its all been approved by Apple themselves. Oh and the 13" Display is superb in any lighting conditions and for use in the dark the backlit keyboard makes this the most usable Laptop/Notebook money can buy. -

Not the fastest ultraportable cnet has ever tested.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MC969LL/A
- Description: The MacBook Air is proof. It's designed around all-flash storage for better responsiveness and reliability. It features a trackpad with full multi-touch support. And though it's incredibly thin and light, its large battery gives you portable power. Chief among it was the precision unibody enclosure. That same engineering process comes to the MacBook Air display. Just like the main enclosure, the display housing is crafted from a single piece of aluminum, with all the structural elements machined directly into it. Total unibody construction means a less complex design with fewer parts. That makes MacBook Air exceptionally thin and light, yet still durable enough to handle the rigors of everyday use.
