Apple MacBook Air (11-inch, Summer 2012) price range: $849.99 - $999.00
- Reviewed by: Scott Stein

The good: The new 11-inch MacBook Air has third-gen Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, USB 3.0 ports, slightly improved battery life, and a lower price on the higher-end model.
The bad: The Air still has relatively few ports and an expensive starting $999 price for only a 64GB SSD -- and that 11-inch screen feels small for its size.
The bottom line: The new 11-inch MacBook Air is every bit as fast as the 13-inch Air, despite its smaller size, but you'll give up 2 hours of battery life in the bargain.

Amazingly fast, incredibly portable
by Rob Pettengill on June 19, 2012
Pros: Fast Processor
Faster SSD
Big SSD
High speed I/O for external disks
Beautiful, strong, lightweight packageCons: It's not a free upgrade.
11 inch air (although as small as an iPad + keyboard) has a shorter battery life (4-5 hours).Summary: I gave up my larger Macbook pro for a 2010 Air when I realized that the SSD made more difference to me than a faster processor. Over the past 2 ...
Summary: I gave up my larger Macbook pro for a 2010 Air when I realized that the SSD made more difference to me than a faster processor. Over the past 2 years I found that the 128 GB SSD wasn't large enough for me. Not only does this upgrade give 512GB, and 256KB SSD storage options and the CPU is 3X faster than the 2010 air. The high speed USB 3, and Thunderbolt I/O make it a great desktop replacement when hooked up to a big monitor and disks.

Great box for the traveler
by kmjinx on June 19, 2012
Pros: Portability and packing ease
Cons: None for me. I like the MBAir best

Summary: I just purchased the new improved version today. It seems a bit faster overall. Memory is double from the previous base model, which I traded in for this newest edition. I have tried nearly every smaller size laptop available and always go back to the MBAir. Nothing to not like about this box if you travel a lot and need to minimize size of the pack you pack!

Solid machine in a tight package
by Carlnolip on January 24, 2013
Pros: Small and light, great battery life, excellent screen quality, nice touch pad, super quality, this machine does not over promise, it gives more then you would expect.
Cons: price, if you want quality your gonna have to pay for it.

Summary: We bought the i5 with the new ivy bridge CPU, 8 gigs of ram and 128ssd, which cost us about $1600. For me that seems to be about double the cost, compared to other machines on the market, but I have gone through many a laptop and have yet to use one that holds to the quality Apple puts into its products.
Gaming, who would of thought this tiny machine with no dedicated video card could play anything, let alone all the top games. This little machine will knock your socks off, using the mac OS or Windows. I play Wow, SWtor, GW2 and COD all set to the highest settings. The machine gets hot but always works, in fact it will shut its self down to cool off before the components inside get wrecked, so I found out when I left the machine on the dash of my car on one of the hottest days of the summer and tried to play a game.
Viruses, have yet to run into a problem on any of my Mac products 5 years now
Windows, I put windows on all my Apple computers using boot camp and find the OS runs just as good if not better. With storage being so affordable now I use a 1tb WD passport with Windows 7 on it. I have also used a flash drive to do this too.
This is a great machine that I hope gets better, I would love to see this size of computer with a touch screen. -
Great Laptop!
by Marcus2477 on December 29, 2012
Pros: ++ I can open it on a plane in coach!
++ Very fast
++ Sharp Screen
++ Light up key board, really helps on night flights.
++ Super Light - in my bag, I can barley tell its there.
++ Great re-sale valueCons: ++ Solid 12" screen would have been nice, there seems to plenty of room in the bezel for more screen.
++ Expensive, but worth it
++ More battery life would be niceSummary: I have a few computers I use on the day-to-day. 13" Mac Book Pro i7, iPad and my office-issued Dell. By far this is the best of all of the ...
Summary: I have a few computers I use on the day-to-day. 13" Mac Book Pro i7, iPad and my office-issued Dell. By far this is the best of all of the computers that I use. The 11.6" screen is perfect for most of my work needs. Docs, Excel, light web updates, building online course work, Skype, and of course e-mail. I use this in my day to day work.

Lightweight and powerful, perfect for travel
by blasher on October 6, 2012
Pros: Light Weight
Surprisingly Fast and Powerful
Love the SSD Speed
Thunderbolt can also be used for HDMI or RJ45 Ethernet with adapter- cool!
The screen is bright, crisp and clear
OS XCons: Battery doesn't last as long as the 13" Air, but then there is also no space for a larger battery.

Summary: Initially I was going to get a new iPad 3 with keyboard, but I wanted to do a bit more than an iPad can do, but not anything that would require the power (or heft) of a Pro. So I decided to give the Air a look. I was torn between the 11" and 13" screen and went with the 11" with i7, 256GB HD and 8GB RAM. It's the perfect size for travel and has way more power and speed than I expected... and it's so light The screen works well for mail, word processing, graphics, etc, and is the perfect size for movies. I'm very happy with this 11" Air.
I have also ordered a HyperJuice 2 external battery that can power the Air for "up to 50 hours" and also can charge my iPhone at the same time. -

Never have I had a more intuitive computer experience.
by mjgway on June 12, 2012
Pros: Computer runs smoothly, quietly and rarely gets warm. The size is compact without becoming cramped. Many features are adjustable--even the brightness of the keyboard backlight. And typing is an absolutely breeze.
Cons: A smaller or less apparent bezel would be appreciated, though this does not detract from the experience and can just be personal preference. The fact that my only complaint is about the bezel should show you how content I really am, frankly.

Summary: Honestly, it has been difficult to put this computer down. Years ago my mother owned a MacBook Pro that I used on occasion. To my great pleasure, so much has been added, tweaked and otherwise improved during my hiatus from Apple products that it seems as though every time I open this laptop I learn of some great new function or stride toward intuitive computer use. The experience is fun, vibrant and... currently explorative. For those of you who are searching for a light, portable computer for tasks that aren't too technically demanding, I highly recommend this computer. It is likely not optimal for any sort of gaming or film editing experience due to its relatively small screen, though chances are you don't need me to tell you that.
If you are a student or simply a person in need or a laptop fit for travel, then this is certainly what you are looking for.0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MD223LL/A
- Description: Sure, MacBook Air is unbelievably thin and light. But they also designed it to be powerful, capable, durable, and enjoyable to use, with enough battery life to get you through the day. That's the difference between a notebook that's simply thin and light and one that's so much more.
