Apple MacBook Air (13-inch, Summer 2012) price range: $949.00 - $1,199.00
- Reviewed by: Scott Stein
- Reviewed on: 06/18/2012
- Released on: 06/11/2012
The good: The 13-inch MacBook Air has new Intel CPUs, better battery life, and an improved 720p Webcam, and finally adds USB 3.0 ports, while shaving $100 off the price from last year's models.
The bad: The design, while strong, stays largely the same: there's no Ethernet port, and the base SSD storage option of 128GB is smaller than a standard hard drive, though common for ultrabooks.
The bottom line: This year's MacBook Air opts for gradual improvements rather than anything revolutionary, but lowered prices continue to make it the go-to mainstream recommendation for any MacBook owner-to-be.

Stay away - crappy hardware
by niceguy1111 on September 26, 2012
Pros: Looks cool and is fast until it breaks...
Cons: My machine is just a bit more than one year old and I have to replace the Logic Board that will cost me $400! This hardware is very poor.
Summary: Don't buy this junk... or if you do, better get the warranty.

This is a great laptop without a doubt
by LewisKuzam on September 24, 2012
Pros: It is super fast and looks great - also feels awesome to use. Also continues Apple's easy to use theme.
Cons: the lack of disk drive is highly annoying, and when your spending this much on a laptop you'd expect this most basic of features
Summary: It looks and feels great, however compare it to the latest macbook pro then for the same price you get the same features and great looks but also a disk ...

Ivy Bridge appears to be the real deal

Performance (solid state drive plus Ivy Bridge = success)

Summary: I picked up the base Macbook Air yesterday. I also have last year's MBPro and 2009 MB. I wasn't too impressed with the battery life on prior Air models. The Ivy Bridge processor appears to be worth the wait. Battery life is improved, internet is sooo fast and, most importantly, I have not seen the spinning rainbow yet! Seriously, does it still exist?!? Or is this cpu just what we've all been waiting for? A computer that seamlessly performs several tasks at once?
So far, I'm impressed. I'll update my review if something changes.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

This is an amazing laptop for everyday use.
by tangledphish on July 5, 2012
Pros: Sleek design;
Battery life is pretty good compared to other laptops out there;
The OS is simply amazing, I'd never go back;
Handles tasks from browsing to light ganes surprisingly well.Cons: I stumbled apon a problem after about 1 hour of use: the dock was using 95% of the cpu and the laptop was seriously heating up. I closed the program and it went back to normal.
Seriously overpriced, but still worth it: base 13" starts at 1199$.Summary: Overall, this is simply a wonderful laptop, although the price is pretty high for an everyday notebook. This said, it is still completely worth it to buy this laptop if ...
Summary: Overall, this is simply a wonderful laptop, although the price is pretty high for an everyday notebook. This said, it is still completely worth it to buy this laptop if you have the money. It does compare to the base 13" MacBook Pro and if you want portability over ports, this is the way to go.

Overall amazing product! Light and powerful!
by phillyry on July 29, 2012
Pros: The MacBook Air is lightweigh, easy to carry, and super capable. It gets great battery life and you can take it anywhere. It has the benefits of the iPad and the MacBook Pro without the iPads limitations or the Pro's bulk.
Cons: Increasing hard drive capacity is expensive. Low-voltage CPU is not as powerful as its big brothers'. RAM is not upgradable.
Summary: This thing is truly amazing. You'll to be happy with this purchase.
Not as revolutionary as the iPad but more powerful.

Summary: I had a MBAir (Fall 2010) for the past two years. My only complaint was that it was slow when running a virtual windows environment due to a max of 4 GB of RAM and the slow processor.
Just purchased a new MBAir with all the goodies (i.e. 8 GB RAM, 2 GHz processor and 512 GB SSD). The speed is outstanding. End of story. It works just like my old MBAir but much faster.
My only comment is that the external design is a bit 'old' but it works and it works great. (It looks exactly the same as my old MBAir) However, as a business owner, reliability is a much higher priority than sexy designs.
If you like your old MBAir and want faster with more storage, this Mac is a good bet.
Of course, you have to pay the $10 fee for each of the converters for your old MBAir power adaptors. LOL. That's for your convenience. Thanks Apple!0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
