The good: Apple's MacBook Air is thin and powerful enough to use as a mainstream laptop. It has an excellent battery and includes an SD card slot.
The bad: The Air has limited connections compared with other 13-inch laptops, and its keyboard isn't backlit. It's outclassed by the new MacBook Pro line.
The bottom line: The second generation of Apple's MacBook Air fixes many of our issues with the ambitious original, adding more USB ports, an SD card slot, and a more powerful processor.

Everything I ever wanted in a computer!
by Dacshund2 on January 10, 2012
Pros: Speedy performance, instantly wakes up, responsive trackpad, great durability, great graphics and picture quality, super lightweight, great speakers, good battery life, no useless ports, standard mac keyboard, OSX ease of customization, super cool!
Cons: The backlit keys were left off intentionally to make them a selling point of the next generation! No glass screen covering like on the Macbook Pro, so the screen gets dirty. Webcam is not HD. No SD slot on the 11'' (I don't want it, but others do).
Summary: I love it, and so do Macbook Pro and PC users. I get lots of "It's so thin and light!" and "can it do everything a bigger computer can?" ...
Summary: I love it, and so do Macbook Pro and PC users. I get lots of "It's so thin and light!" and "can it do everything a bigger computer can?" Yes, and yes. The use of flash storage makes this computer zip through everyday tasks like lightning. OSX is great, but that's another story. I was previously a diehard PC person, but we got an Imac at home and I loved it so much I replaced my laptop. I will never go back! It is well built, lightweight, and powerful! I have never had a task that I can't do because of the Macbook Air. The lack of the glass covering on the screen is the only aesthetic design blip. The weight and thinness makes it easy to tote. Note, the 11'' model is great for airplanes because it is lighter and can open on the traytable. It is great for light 3d gaming (angry birds, asphalt 6, etc.), but is not really intended for really heavy duty gaming; the Macbook Pro is meant more for that. I only use 25 gigs of the computer's 120, but if you like to download a whole library of movies and other large files, the Macbook Pro may be better for that. Overall, the Macbook Air is the perfect everyday computer that easily fits in a bag and won't break. The construction is superb, the performance is class-leading, and the price is better than the previous generation; although it is still high enough to make the Macbook Air a high-end computer, but it is worth every penny, trust me. Definitely a must see for anyone in the market for a new personal computer. I would not hesitate to call it the best laptop computer on the market.

MacBook Air
by davidbastin on June 27, 2011
Pros: Computer works fine with great design.
Cons: Be very aware of the battery and powercord which don't last so long. The replacement parts down the road will probably cost you the same as buying a Toshiba or HP.

Great update; not quite a primary computer at all.

Summary: This is an excellent machine, especially for those who travel frequently. In my situation, I have to take a work laptop and my personal machine with me, and the air slides into my laptop bag like a file versus an additional computer. Flash memory and solid state is amazing, and the standby time is very iPad-esque. The caveat to my review is that this is not my main pc, as I have a 3.06 ghz iMac at home as well, and that's meant for heavy lifting. If you have another computer, than this is the perfect addition to your network; but if you plan to purchase this as a main computer; look at the refreshed entry level 13 inch MacBook Pro. It's cheaper, more powerful, upgradeable, and would be my personal choice if I did not have to carry 2 laptops.

A great portable.
by Jojo747-2282160186786712764358 on February 2, 2011
Pros: Light, very thin (the pictures you see are accurate), fast SSD, silent operation, 20 sec boot, instant wake, Magsafe charger, high powered USB, decent graphics for an ultrportable
Cons: Last gen processor, no backlit keyboard, no CD/DVD drive, limited storage space, cannot upgrade storage or memory, only 2GB of RAM, no eithernet, no firewire, uses Displayport instead of a more common standard for video out

Summary: If you're looking for the portability of a netbook, but need more power than those can provide, this laptop is for you. Unlike netbooks, this is a full featured laptop. But as you'd expect Apple made some cuts in order to keep it light and thin
Speed
While this uses a slower, last generation CPU, it is eased by the presense of a fast SDD (the same technology the iPad uses). Thanks to that it boots in 20 sec, wakes from sleep instantly, and loads programs fast. You'll also notice a speed boost when you install programs and write things to the disk in general. However is you try to run a CPU intensive program like photoshop or any modern games, you'll notice that processor slowing you down.
Graphics
The GPU in this is surprisingly good, for an ultraportable. They will have no problem with high def videos. That said don't expect to be able to game on this machine.
Battery Life
I was disappointed here. One of the biggest draws for this laptop over the more powerful Macbook Pros are portablity. Sadly battery life is not as good. That said it will get you through your day without needing a recharge. I guess my biggest problem here is that an ultraportable should beet the more powerful (and power hungry) Macbook Pro battery life, but it doesn't.
Ports
It's, sadly lacking in this area. You are limited to two USB ports, one SD reader, and one Displayport. I like that the USB ports output enough power to charge my iPad (something most computers don't do), but I'd like to have seen at least one more. The Displayport always ticks me off about Apple laptops. As of right now only Apple monitors use Mini Display port, thus 99% of the time you're going to need to buy an overpriced adaptor to use an external screen.
Keyboard
The keyboard is a full keyboard, which is a nice change from many netbooks. It's only shortcoming is that it's not backlit. That's a very handy feature, and it wouldn't have required Apple to increase the size to accomidate.
OS
This is a Mac and thus runs OS X. Since this isn't a review on OS X I won't go into too much detail other than to say this OS is hands down the fastest and most efficient one out. It's only shortcoming is not a fault of the OS itself, it's simply that some programs are only designed to run on Windows. This is esed though, by the fact that Macs can now run Windows along side (or even right from within) OS X. Because of it's design it's also very hard to get a virus, unless you specfically allow it to install. Plus, because it's not as popular as Windows most virus creators ignore it. It wil take some time to get used to it if you're coming from Windows, but you'll get the hang in no time. After all Apple is nothing if not user friendly.
Design
You simply can't beet Apple in terms of making a sexy laptop, and this is no exception. Its all aluminum, with only the Apple logo on the top. No funky designs, no "powered by" logos, no stickers on the bottom like most PC laptops have. -
Wicked Cool...
by raybanman on December 31, 2010
Pros: the os and its compatibility is great! love how its so thin.
Cons: the os can be difficult and stubborn but nothing like windows...i use windows at school. hate it

Excellent portable solution with a solid OS
by mvrawlings on December 3, 2010
Pros: Thin and portable decent space. intel Core 2 processor. Uses flash for storage boot time superfast. Beautiful design.
Cons: Memory cannot be upgraded after purchase.
Summary: The best purchase you can make for a solid OS. The Air is what it is light. Its all you need.

From PC to Mac (I won't go back!)
by ranabargar on March 25, 2011
Pros: I have a stack of PC-based laptops sitting in my office. After yet another hard drive crash, i finally decided to give the Mac a try. What a great product! I travel a lot for work, so having a lightweight laptop is key. MacBook Air is great. Performa
Cons: Only complaint is a lack of some key Microsoft Office offerings for the Mac (Project, Access, and Visio). Can't blame Apple for that.
Summary: Great product - make the switch...

" It A Dream Machine "
by sammartin321 on January 17, 2011
Pros: This light weight, super fast and durable lap top is the computer I've always dreamed of owning. It compliments my 24" iMAC and makes a great secondary computer. It is fun to use and the "instant on" is great for the time challenged and impatient.
Cons: The only Con in this situation is perhaps the price, but you get what you pay for, after all it's an Apple!
Summary: The Bottom line is BUY IT, you'll be in love from the moment you power it on! Happy times are ahead of you!

Summary: I sell PCS for a living but a year ago I made the switch, I now have an IMAC, MacBook pro. IPAD and IPhone 4. I travel for work so I just purchased a MACBOOK Air with all the bells. This is amazing. I will run fusion on it and install windows. I have not had 1 crash in the last year. I am a believer.

by amr65 on November 5, 2010
Pros: Light, very very fast launching of applications, ergonomic and if you upgrade to 4 gb memory and 2.13 mHz processor it'll even be faster.
Cons: expensive, so its definitely not for everyone

Summary: I've been a pc user for over 17 years, last my wife got a MBP 13-inch and i started putting my hand on it. It was a very positive experience. Since then I've been thinking of switching to a mac but didn't have the courage till the new MBA was released. Then, i seriously considered it. I visited the apple store and put my hand on it and it was gorgeous. And here we go, i received it 5 days ago and installed windows xp on it through parallels. Its very fast with a long battery life. It also runs smoothly. I also run PS elements and again its working perfectly well.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MC503LL/A
- Description: The MacBook Air is proof. It's designed around all-flash storage for better responsiveness and reliability. It features a trackpad with full multi-touch support. And though it's incredibly thin and light, its large battery gives you portable power that lasts for hours. When MacBook Air first debuted, it was groundbreaking in many ways. Chief among them was the precision unibody enclosure. Now that same engineering process comes to the MacBook Air display. Just like the main enclosure, the display housing is crafted from a single piece of aluminum, with all the structural elements machined directly into it. Total unibody construction means a less complex design with fewer parts. That makes MacBook Air exceptionally thin and light, yet still durable enough to handle the rigors of everyday use.
