Very portable and sweet!!!
by Shandapaul on March 6, 2011
Pros: Compact!! Normal size key board, excellent battery life, portability, good speakers for a small laptop.
Cons: Small fonts that hurt my eyes and give me a headache. No backlit keyboard. Need more hard drive space than the 64GB. Too expensive!!!

Summary: For portability, I debated between this product and the ipad. And I came to the conclusion of buying this Macbook Air over the ipad simple because the ipad is way over priced and is not a computer(no SD card or USB port).
This computer(MBA 11" 64GB) flat out died on me. After updating the computer via Mac Software Update and try to restart the computer it would not start. Scary!!
I am in my forty's and is beginning to use reading glasses. I don't need my glasses when I am on my 13" MacBook Pro, but this 11" MacBook Air is hurting my eyes and giving me headache and body aches whenever time I am on it simple because the webpage fonts are too small. I have to constantly use the zoom button to expand my viewing field which diminishes the screen quality on each zoom +, but that is the only way I can view most webpages on this machine - Still love this stylish machine.
Updated on Mar 25, 2011
I returned it to the retailer immediately. As I was still within the return policy period, I thought about returning the product period. However, I gave Apple the benefit of the doubt that this defect is one in a million and I would not experience this again from another Macbook Air 11".
Updated on Apr 18, 2011My 11" Air is charging up to 95%. Called Apple Tech Support. In order to calibrate, I was told to drain my battery and let stand for over five hours and recharge. On the fourth hour now since drainage. In the next one and half hour, I will plug back in. let's see if it charges to 100%, instead of 95%. Oh boy don't want to bring this one back again.
Updated on Apr 19, 2011The battery is now charging at 100%.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This computer is great for a student or someone who is on the go. You will barely realize it is in your back pack. The computer is surprisingly fast given the specs under the hood. The battery life is good but not great, however that is to be expected with the small size. All in all this is a great ultraportable second computer. I would not recommend this to someone who is going to use it as their main computer.

Very nice product for a 2nd or a travel computer
by ajmac on October 26, 2010
Pros: Small size is great for travel. Very fast for email, web, and basics apps, start up is very fast. IS well made like most Apple products. You can upgrade RAM on-line and would recommend this as 2 GB is a bit small.
Cons: Pricey, but all Apple products are. Remember, you get what you pay for. Low RAM, no back-lit keyboard.
Summary: Great for travelers or a 2nd computer. I own the computer and a love it for what I use it for. CNET is very PC oriented and I am tired ...
Summary: Great for travelers or a 2nd computer. I own the computer and a love it for what I use it for. CNET is very PC oriented and I am tired of hearing pro-PC people complain about fan-boys. If you hate Apple or you don't own or don't use Apple products, then dont review them. Apple products fit me well and PC products do not. Check out this computer at your local Apple Store and see if it is for you.

Unbeatable Combo of Speed & Battery life
by jjessie on October 29, 2010
Pros: Ignore any negative reviews you see, go to the Apple Store and get your hands on one! You will be AMAZED how FAST this machine is with what SEEMS like such a slow / old processor. The secret is the ONBOARD SSD!! That's right, onboard!
Cons: Not many I could think of other than it might be nice to have a backlit keyboard. Although since I switched from a mbp with the backlight to a regular macbook without it I really haven't missed it much.

Summary: The SSD implementation alone makes this laptop at the very least something you MUST strongly CONSIDER! Every other system that can have SSD on the market currently have been designed to take BOTH types of drives. In order to build the system to accept either type of drives you must use a SATA interface and an adapter for the SSD itself.
Apple took their knowledge of flash (SSD) technology from the iPhone and the iPad and applied it directly to a laptop. This laptop was designed from the ground up with flash memory (SSD) in mind. This makes an enormous difference that the other reviews I have seen don't seem to mention.
Your doing yourself a major disservice if you do not check out this amazing next generation laptop. All laptops will be designed this way someday, but why wait when you can have it now?2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

love affair is over
by pinooregon on February 3, 2011
Pros: Weight, portability, functionality -- all good. I loved my MacBook Air until....(see below)
Cons: There is a price for all this lightness and thinness -- FRAGILITY. If using this for travel be extremely careful with the screen. It is very easily damaged (as mine is). I have a big white spiral and other purple lines all from "normal" use.
Summary: I want to love it, used to love it, but am now highly disappointed with the delicacy of the screen. A laptop should be truly portable, not have to be ...
Summary: I want to love it, used to love it, but am now highly disappointed with the delicacy of the screen. A laptop should be truly portable, not have to be babied. I carried my plastic cased MacBook all over with me to no ill effect. The Air requires extra special care so as to not damage the screen.

Why I love the new 13" MacBook Air
by tinybutshiny on December 9, 2010
Pros: feels really fast because of the flash storage; glossy screen isn't all that reflective, and everything looks super crisp and beautiful; trackpad is AMAZING; keyboard superior to most others; comes with iLife '11; stays cool and barely makes noise
Cons: no backlit keyboard (would've wanted that!); battery calibration necessary (look it up on the Apple support site), otherwise, you can never get near the promised 7 hours
Summary: This is a physically stunning machine and works really well for the average user. I'm a college student and I mainly use my Mac for websurfing, video and music ...
Summary: This is a physically stunning machine and works really well for the average user. I'm a college student and I mainly use my Mac for websurfing, video and music playback, schoolwork and some webdesigning on the side; it's been a very reliable computer for those things. I haven't tried playing games on here, but I'm sure it'll work splendidly for such purposes with the Nvidia graphics card. Also, it's very light and thus incredibly portable; I hate lugging around heavy devices, so this works great for me!
I've experienced the fan going off pretty loud whenever I play videos or songs. Just a note I wanted to put out there. I suppose this type of thing will happen when you run games on here too.
This is my first Mac and I can really say that it provides a computing experience superior to that of the PC. Mac OS X allows you to do a lot of gestures on the awesome glass trackpad, and these gestures actually boost productivity while being fun to do. I'm also loving the Dashboard, and though I haven't tried using iMovie and Garage Band yet (they come pre-installed for free), I think they'll be a pleasure to use as well.
I had no problem learning the new keyboard shortcuts and my way around the new OS, so if you're a PC user and you're a little daunted by the switch, don't be! There are lots of helpful articles and videos online that'll help you with the transition.
I ordered my Mac online via the Apple store. I highly recommend the 4GB RAM upgrade if you intend to keep your device for a while.. I think it'll be necessary too once the new OS Lion comes out. If you're a student, don't forget to take advantage of the student discount! It also allows you to get Microsoft Office pre-installed on there, so you won't have problems conforming with the Microsoft dominated world of computers.
Overall, I'm very pleased with my new MacBook Air. You should seriously consider this product if you want a fast, reliable, and very portable notebook.

super portable, fast, light and well designed
by jmmatta on December 2, 2010
Pros: no wasted space, thin, light, fast, screen resolution is beautiful, although old processors, still works fast for daily use, apple design is flawless
Cons: bit pricey, but who cares? want more speed or better processors? get a macbook pro, mac software still rules as it doesn't take 5 minutes to start windows. now using my MBP as my desktop killer, this as my portable.
Summary: outstanding, thin and light mac. who needs a bigger screen?

Summary: The macbook air 11.6 inch is a nice product, I really like how thin it is and I like the speed compared to the last one. The only major problem is that it doesn't have a backlit keyboard like all of the other ones. Overall I would recommend this computer to anyone who wants a small computer, For a bigger faster computer I would get the macbook pro (13").

13 MBA is a great laptop, don't be fooled by the specs
by hjklgh on November 5, 2010
Pros: Size, weight, thickness, sturdiness the general build quality and form factor is outstanding, best on the market by far. Performance is excellent even with old processor technology. Battery life. Screen. Runs quiet and cool.
Cons: No back lit keyboard. Buying the extras (Ethernet, HDMI, VGA adapters & external slot drive). Price, would always like it cheaper, but it is reasonable when compared to other high end 13 laptops with SSD such as the Sony Z and Toshiba Protege 700.
Summary: I purchased the 13 Macbook Air over the Sony Z and Toshiba Prot 700. I am a business user that runs both OSX for personal and VMWare with windows for ...
Summary: I purchased the 13 Macbook Air over the Sony Z and Toshiba Prot 700. I am a business user that runs both OSX for personal and VMWare with windows for business. The apps I use are Office, Email, Calender, Web Firefox, movies, youtube, and casual photos and movie editing. Note I do not game. I ordered the 13 Macbook Air with 2.13 Ghz Proc, 4GB Mem, 256GB SSD, Ethernet adapter, hdmi adapter, vga adapter, external slot drive. I need the adapter for business presentations some conference rooms have HDMI to large screens, some have vga projectors. The Ethernet adapter is required for offices where primarily wifi is not available and the very rare hotel that doesn't have wifi or has both but wifi is weak/slow. The HDMI adapter works well at home with the TV for group viewing of movies, pictures, youtube, etc
This is by far the best laptop I have ever owned in my +15 years of using the laptops... it just works and is very fast providing a different computing experience, it boots is seconds, apps load immediately, the track pad is by far the best way to surf (if you haven't used it, go try it and see it for yourself), etc. The performance is excellent for all of my applications, including VMWare with windows running office, outlook, and Firefox. I am sure SSD and NVIDA graphics has a lot to do with the performance. Don't be fooled by all of the reviews about the old processor, it performs very well with excellent graphics and is plenty of power for 90% of the world. The size, weight is unbelievably light, but sturdy and works great in an office environment, especially for presentations and moving from meeting to meeting with 'instant on' as well as surfing on the sofa watching TV in the evenings. Although carrying the adapters is a little inconvenient, they don't take up much room in my brief case and it is a fair trade off for the size and weight of the laptop. You have to see it, hold it, run it on your lap to truly understand how the MBA is significantly better the build, design, size, weight is over even the smallest of high end laptops like the Sony Z and Toshiba Protege 700. The resolution of the screen is excellent, it seems that 1400x900 is a great fit for 13" factor, much better than my old Sony Zs. For the size/weight 2.9lbs the battery life is excellent and I have been receiving more than 7 hours for web/office and about 4.5 hours for video.
I am now using the 13 MBA as my primary and only computer. I just purchased a refurbished an Apple 24" display, which acts as a docking station for phone, power, printer, external hard drive. Note I also have a external USB hard dive for additional file storage for archiving photos, old files, etc. I prefer the idea of a single all-in-one computer, which just makes management so much easier. I have been think about an iPad version 2 if it incorporates printing and some other features, now with MBA I do not see the need for the iPad. Note I read on a kindle 3 and now amazon on MBA.
If you are looking for a light, sleek portable laptop that provides great performance for the typical business/home/student user (i.e. not a serious gamer or video editor or programmer that needs to do large compiles, etc) the Macbook Air is a great choice at a reasonable price if you compare other laptops with SSD. It can even act as your primary computer with minimal management/maintenance.
Final comment on the 11" MBA, I thought the screen was just a little to small to use for my needs and didn't think it could perform as an all-in-one computer. However, it is a great little traveler and would work well as a second computer for the road, including not having to take it out to be scanned in airports.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best Laptop I've Ever Owned
by craigrb on October 30, 2010
Pros: Perfect size and wight for basic computing/internet use.
Feels very solid
Great display
Best in class trackpad
Good Keyboard
Battery life...averaging 5 plus hours of hard useCons: 16x9 aspect ratio not the greatest for some uses thought perfect for movies
Would love FW800/USB3/Gig Ethernet though would probably seldom use.

Summary: This is a superbly designed and built small notebook. My other computer is a MacBook Pro 2010 15" and I can't see myself using that beautiful beast for anything other than tasks that require serious processing power. For all other tasks, this Air is perfect. Yes it cost a pretty penny. But I challenge anyone to spend a couple days using it and then want to give it back.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MC505LL/A
- Description: The MacBook Air is proof. It's designed around all-flash storage for better responsiveness and reliability. It features a trackpad with full multi-touch support. And though it's incredibly thin and light, its large battery gives you portable power that lasts for hours. When MacBook Air first debuted, it was groundbreaking in many ways. Chief among them was the precision unibody enclosure. Now that same engineering process comes to the MacBook Air display. Just like the main enclosure, the display housing is crafted from a single piece of aluminum, with all the structural elements machined directly into it. Total unibody construction means a less complex design with fewer parts. That makes MacBook Air exceptionally thin and light, yet still durable enough to handle the rigors of everyday use.
