Fantastic piece of technology
by JonathanLauer on September 27, 2010
Pros: When I buy a laptop I want a machine that boots fast, has a long battery run time, sleeps quickly every time, is reliable, quick and responsive, and never freezes up. My 13" macbook pro is all those things. ed my windows laptop for my macbook pro.
Cons: The first machine I got had a hard drive failure 3 weeks in, but Apple replaced it under warranty immediately when I took it to the Bellevue, WA Apple Store, who migrated me to the replacement machine fast. It was like the failure never happened.
Summary: They cost more, but they are well worth the premium if you like a hassle-free, high performing, cool machine that is not preloaded with crapware when you buy it.

Woking great with no crash to date.
by paulyeobee on September 6, 2010
Pros: Design, speed, touchpad
Cons: Price, laptop of similar spec cost only 2/3 or 1/2 as much.
Summary: Everything worked just fine for me, but it would have been better if the price were lower.

Summary: I am more than happy with my new laptop, I waited for the new processor to come out so I had an updated version and I am VERY happy with my purchase. I've had no issues what so ever. As a long time PC user I was worried about making the switch over to apple, but they made it so easy to make the switch and I enjoyed it very much so. I don't know if I am going to go back, now that I can use boot camp to use the windows OS I can't find a need to make the switch back.

About as nice a clean as a laptop can get.
by murdock808 on May 7, 2010
Pros: Quick Start up, fast shut down. Solid build. Between the OS and the power under the hood, Steve Jobs has really set the bar high. This is my firs "real Mac"as I am a new convert, with buying a Mac Mini a year ago as a trial run into the world of Mac.
Cons: I have not found one yet. So I will setup a Dual Boot system and have the best of both worlds, with a kick ass computer.
Summary: If you got the 2K to spend, it is well worth kicking in the big bucks for something really worth while. I will not be buying a PC ever again.

Summary: OS X will always be a solid OS, but for the price this computer is underpowered. And, as an owner of a mid-2009 17" MacBook Pro and 2009 Mac Pro (model MacPro4,1 running Snow Leopard 10.6.3),
The RAM - for the 2009 MBP, it was high in price but 4GB wasn't an issue because 8GB kits cost $700. It's now an issue as 8GB kits cost $350~$400.
The CPU is a dual core unit (4-way processing, 2 cores each capable of processing 2 threads) as it contains an Intel video chipset to complement the nVidia graphics when in power-save mode.
Many tech forums reported this model overheats.
Even with costs subsidized by adware, a Windows system with superior specs (6GB, blu-ray, quad core i7, nVidia 360m or ATi 5870 mobile) can be had for well over $1000 less.
In short, is OS X worth $1000 more? Is better battery life worth $1000? Especially when a 2.53GHz i5 will perform - on average - only marginally faster than a 2.8GHz Core2Duo? Is $1000 worth the overheating? Nope. Even if this were the quad-core i7 (and those are the ones without the integrated Intel video chipset, obviously), the overheating concern is also a turnoff. QC, where art thou?2 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Epic battery life without sacrificing speed
by electronista on April 23, 2010
Pros: Very long battery life; good mix of speed and portability; Mac OS X; solid aluminum construction; top-notch support
Cons: Expensive if you don't care about battery life, weight, thickness, build quality or good technical support.
Summary: Don't believe the one-star ratings; they're from Windows loyalists who only care about the clock speed and hard drive size.

I like Windows, but the simple reality is that the MacBook Pro is much better for what you actually use a notebook for: working at full speed while away from a wall outlet. Eight hours with dedicated graphics turned on is something you simply can't get on any other full-speed notebook. It's thin, it's light, and it's extremely sturdy, too.
Not to mention that Apple simply seems to think of all the little things that matter on a notebook that others neglect. The screen is high quality even on the base model; you don't have to pay a premium just to get good color accuracy. MagSafe is extremely handy for avoiding damage to the power cord. And the trackpad could almost sell the system by itself -- it's very large and has extremely intuitive two-finger scrolling as well as other gestures.
Let's not forget support: Apple is one of the few to keep its North American support... well, in North America. I respect outside cultures, but overcoming accent and language barriers just to get help isn't worth saving a hundred dollars on the sticker price.
The high price is a concern, but you can also buy a $1799 model and get nearly all the features for signfiicantly less. It would also be nice if there were a 640GB drive or 8GB of RAM at the top end. But Apple isn't targeting the desktop replacement crowd that doesn't mind a 9-pound notebook that gets 1.5 hours of battery life; it's targeting people who actually use their notebooks as portable computers, and that's where it succeeds.2 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

This is an Outstanding Computer
by john_rushford on April 17, 2010
Pros: Extremely fast startup, excellent screen resolution, responsive keyboard, excellent track pad, the reason most people will get rid of their home computer and move to a full purpose laptop instead. Excellent wireless and network capabilities
Cons: Longer battery life is all that is needed

I had heard from a number of people how great Mac's are so I took the plunge. I absolutely love it!
I have seen a lot of posts about Mac's being too expense. I would like to make a couple of points about that issue:
1. Yes, from a pure hardware standpoint, you can get more for your money from Dell, Lenovo, HP, and the other PC manufacturers. But when doing that analysis, I think you have to add some premium for the quality of the operating system - both from a stability and ease of use perspective. To someone who is an expert in computers, maybe that is not much of a premium, but for someone like me, who is a novice, I place a very high premium on the operating system.
2. While you may be able to get a more high power computer from another manufacturer for the same price, I think you have to ask yourself if you really need that extra power. Again, if you are a sophisticated user, you might, but for a novice like me, the hardware on the MacBook is just fine.
