- While the Retina MacBook Pro is easily the most desirable 13-inch Mac laptop to date, the high price and lack of discrete graphics make it a tough call versus either the more powerful 15-inch Retina Pro or the more affordable 13-inch Air.

Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display (13.3-inch) price range: $1,399.00 - $1,499.00

The good: The new 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display adds a screen that's nearly as high-res as the 15-inch version, making for incredibly crisp text and images. The slimmer body feels much more modern, and the excellent keyboard and trackpad remain.
The bad: Considering that this looks and feels a lot like the 13-inch MacBook Air, you may be in for a bit of sticker shock, especially as the base model only includes 128GB of SSD storage.
The bottom line: While the Retina MacBook Pro is easily the most desirable 13-inch Mac laptop to date, the high price and lack of discrete graphics make it a tough call versus either the more powerful 15-inch Retina Pro or the more affordable 13-inch Air.

Just purchased this laptop: best I've ever owned.
by bmmayhew on March 2, 2013
Pros: Screen is gorgeous. SSD makes this laptop extraordinarily fast. Owned an SSD Lenovo prior to my MacBook and there is no comparison. Coming from a series of windows-based laptops, the security is top notch but not intrusive to my day-to-day use.
Cons: Had to buy Office for Mac software (in addition to Pages, Numbers, etc) because of my work documents. Lack of DVD/CD drive is a drag but much of what my data is already digital and this will only continue to be the case going forward.
Summary: Overall, best laptop I've ever owned. The speed, screen resolution, security and battery life are tremendous. I am a heavy user and this laptop handles it and then some. ...

Summary: Okay... I admite there is some flaws, everything has flaws, but it is nothing that you cannot fix. A simple hard drive or a flash drive does make the problem go away. If only the terabyte flash drive was cheap! If you are looking for a work computer for school or work this is perfect. Gamers find it less appealing, but they still like the computer for non-gaming tasks. It is also a great computer for the movie industry because of it's display and features. It does look kind of look like a macbook air, but I like the look. It is sharp, and unlike my old computers has never over heated (Don't take my word, I have not played and heavy duty games or programs yet, but I bet it can easily handle it). Overall an amazing computer.

Summary: I can run as many applications as I want with no drops in performance. I love the track pad gestures and dictation. Screen and speakers are great for media, Also love AirPlay. If you can afford it, it is well worth it if you need to run many intense applications. Its also my first Apple computer, and it has exceeded all of my expectations.

Awesome battery life, fantastic screen, super fast.
by sdjkfjdjfjsafdjsj on December 28, 2012
Pros: Love the 6 hour battery life. Everyone else at Starbucks is scrambling to find power outlets. I don't even bring my power adapter with me anymore.
SSD is very fast.
Screen is absolutely amazing. Crisp text with zero pixelation. Awesome machine.Cons: Only two USB 3.0 ports. Would like one more.
Summary: Best machine I've ever owned. The combination of ultra fast performance, 6 hour battery life, and amazingly sharp and clear screen can't be beat.

Mislabeled 13" MacBook Air!
by CJW2.0 on October 27, 2012
Pros: Dual Thunderbolt ports and bult in HDMI are a positive step.
Retina is an additional bonus!Cons: Where do I start?
1:The lack of an upgradable ram (being stuck at 8GB) for a so called "pro" model is simply stupid.
2: The next HUGE negative is the lack of the discrete graphics card.
3 Price. FAR too expensive for the missing hardware.Summary: Do not buy this computer. The drawbacks outweigh the positives.

Sure it's got a "retina display" and Dual thunderbolt connections. However for Apple to call this a professional level laptop is simply mind blowing. This is a moderately beefed up MacBook Air with a Retina display and nothing more. If you happen to do 3D modelling or working in the world of 2K or Full HD video, You're going to want a laptop with a GPU.
VERY disappointed Apple!6 out of 16 users found this user opinion helpful.

Do yourself a favor and Avoid buying this computer!
by frogimo99 on January 18, 2013
Pros: USB port on both sides of the computer (did not have this on my old one).
Retina is really nice.Cons: Not enough GB! (Less than my old white MacBook, which means i could not back up all my documents) I do not understand how this computer can be called a MacBook "PRO"!
Way too heavy for not having a CD player
Way too pricy for what it's worth!Summary: I have only had troubles with this computer since I first opened its package.

I only regret buying because I have to use it everyday and when I look at it, it just reminds me of everything I have had to go through.
I would have never thought i would miss my old white MacBook.
There are more CONS than PROS, just remember not to buy this computer, you would be better off with a MacBook Air!0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great quality at a premium.
by wjpreston on November 3, 2012
Pros: This product offers a superb display. No questions asked, the retina lineup is leading the industry of laptop displays at the moment. It offers performance of high caliber and is great for anyone who wants to get work done, in a multiple locations.
Cons: Unfortunately this device is expensive and is possible only suited towards the business market as using high end aesthetically pleasing MacBooks give a better impression to their clients. The 13 inch model may feel a bit small at times.
Summary: In conclusion we see that this is a great product released from Apple, however it comes at a premium. Some would argue that it's too big, but that is ...
Summary: In conclusion we see that this is a great product released from Apple, however it comes at a premium. Some would argue that it's too big, but that is what you have to pay to be on the Apple float. The laptop is reasonably customisable (at purchase) in the way you can upgrade RAM and SSD sizes. However unfortunately, like most new Apple products the ability to customise it after being built is becoming ever increasingly difficult or expensive.
In conclusion we see that this product once customised to tailor your requirements, is a great device. However it's price would put many people off. However, lets not judge how good a product is just on its price, lets judge it on what it actually is. If your buying a Mac in itself, you clearly have spare cash in your pockets. Overall another great product to join the Mac line-up.0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MD212LL/A
- Description: MacBook Pro has a screen as vivid as your imagination. A screen where everything you see is remarkably vibrant, detailed, and sharp. What they created was the world's high-resolution notebook display - and their most jaw-dropping Retina display yet. When you pack over 5-million pixels into a 13.3-inch display, the results are positively stunning. The pixel density is so high, your eyes can't discern individual pixels. Images take on a high level of realism and text is pin sharp. And with a 2880-by-1800 resolution, you can see more of your high-resolution images onscreen with pixel-for-pixel accuracy. So your best ideas can become your best work. The Retina display reduces glare while maintaining incredible color and quality. In fact, it has a 29-percent higher contrast ratio than a standard MacBook Pro display. Blacks are blacker. Whites are whiter. And everything in between is rich and vibrant. IPS technology gives you a wide, 178-degree view of everything on the screen, so you'll see the difference at practically any angle. And you're going to love what you see. A long battery life is impressive for any notebook. But for a high-performance notebook with an ultra-high-resolution display, top-of-the-line processors and graphics, and a superslim design, it's absolutely remarkable. The built-in battery gives you up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles. Which means you can put your MacBook Pro to sleep, and it'll come back on instantly - after a day, a week, or even a month. You haven't heard it all until you've heard the speakers inside the MacBook Pro. For something so thin and light, the sound is huge. And with a wide dynamic range, optimal balance, and a crisp, expressive quality, these speakers might sound too good to be true. That's because they labored painstakingly over the design to maximize the quality of every decibel you hear. Dual built-in microphones are great for when you want to be heard. If you're making a FaceTime call, for example, the microphones reduce background noise from behind the notebook. And when you use dictation, they create an adaptive audio beam that intelligently adjusts to detect your voice - instead of the noise around you.
