Asus Eee PC 1025C Flare price range: $346.37

The good: The Asus Eee PC 1025C Flare has amazing battery life, and is probably the least expensive Windows 7 laptop you'll find.
The bad: Just about everything else is substandard. A machine like this was acceptable a few years ago, but it just doesn't cut it in the post-iPad world.
The bottom line: Asus brought Netbooks into the world, and with the last-gasp Eee PC 1025C Flare, it looks like it's going to take them out as well.

They should have upgraded more ingeniously!
by ProDigit on April 19, 2012
Pros: battery life
affordable
CPU is mediocreCons: too large to be carried around like a notepad, 9" is better
slow hd
low screen resolution
Not a big step up from previous models.
Battery life is only moderate for a netbook, only thank to the 6 cell battery pack.
Not very upgradeableSummary: Intel purposely holds back growth.

we are at a point where the atom processor should be 2Ghz, 22nm, with turbo boost, and dual DDR3/DDr4 memory channels, and an on-die 600Mhz clocked GPU.
Netbooks need to be 9" models, with a 720p resolution (1280x720) (640x720p 3D).
They need to be more optimized for low power consumption under low activity use (playing back mp3's, browsing).
Need to have a reflective screen, like the one from Toshiba, so that backlight can be eliminated.
That is what we are supposed to be seeing right now, not this device that performs only marginally better than my first gen EEEPC 701!
I would much prefer a lower speed 3cell MLC 60GB SSD over a 500gb slow hd to be the stock form of memory storage. -
Good next-generation netbook if you beef it up a little
by chconspire on March 15, 2012
Pros: Has some new-technology items such as USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 3.0.
Adequate computing and graphics power when it is beefed up.
Its size and price are very good for many.Cons: Windows 7 Starter is a mistake on any computer. You need to put some better OS in it, along with some more RAM.

Summary: I don't understand what Asus is thinking. They make a great piece of hardware here, but don't check it out with software realities. When you know that your computer is very good, then you should check it out well. Everyone knows that Windows 7 Starter is bad, and this computer demonstrates that. So Asus should think "What do we need to put into this great netbook to make it run adequately?" The answer is: More RAM and a better operating system (Windows 7 Professional). If you don't, then this computer will get a bad rap, and people will not buy it. So I am reporting here that when you do, this computer is very good (for its price).
When I first saw this computer, in a showroom, it was running a video. The video was running very smoothly, and the color/contrast was very good.

The CNET reviewer emphasized that everything was ordinary and substandard. Really?! A nice Intel N2600 processor, and GMA 3600 graphics, USB 3, Bluetooth. I am pretty impressed, myself.

much more usefull then an ipad
by thierry_ on March 13, 2012
Pros: it is a real laptop with a keybord
Cons: the hardware is a bit anemic
Summary: I really don't understand why companies would stop making netbooks it is much more usefull as a computer then a tablet.

Don't get me wrong i think tablets a really cool but they are not that fantastic when it comes to serious computing. Yes alright you can buy a keyboard for your tablet but then you up with a tablet costing the same as a laptop and then i personally would go for a laptop.
A tablet is best for entertainment watching a movie on the go playing angry birds and such.
I love my netbook a tablet wouldn't work for me but i guess that is a matter of preference and what your needs are1 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.
