Very happy! Big and fast. Be ready to plug it in though
by GoHokies03 on February 14, 2010
Pros: Screen size, speed, price, full size keyboard
Cons: battery life, a little too much "bloatware" (you can take it off no sweat)

Summary: Had the computer for a few days now. I am extremely happy with it. I needed a desktop replacement, and wanted to be able to have a computer to use throughout the house. I dont need to travel much with my computer. Its big, and a little cumbersome, but if you're looking at this machine, portability probably isnt high on your list. The resolution is extremely good, and the speed (esp. at start up) is great. The only con (which I dont really care about) is the battery life is not very good, you can watch the battery meter just go down when running on battery. But, I plug in most of the time anyway, so for my needs, this computer is perfect! All of this capability for the price is awesome. If you need a portable computer and cant plug in all the time, be cautious with this HP.
BTW, blu-ray capability is an extra bonus!7 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

Terrible with huge design flaws
by nmascar on May 18, 2010
Pros: Looks good, soon it'll be a showpiece or paperweight
Cons: Terrible design. Graphics card will need to be reflowed. Will flash Error code 4 which is Graphics card failure.

Summary: Started getting ATI Driver failures and BSODs. I reinstalled drivers with no success. Called HP and they said that its an OS problem and I need to reimage. I did which didn't solve the problem. Called HP again and they said the same thing. Right after the 1 year warranty was up, the graphics card fried. The laptop is now completely useless. HP wants $400 to fix it. Ebay costs are $125. I reflowed it myself and it works for a good 15 minutes before needing to be reflowed again. Will never buy another HP Product
The design flaw is that the graphics card is behind the CPU and uses a 2MM thick thermal pad that insulates the card more than cool it. I replaced that with a piece of copper after reflowing which lets it last 15 minutes instead of 5 so I know that's the problem. It's just too late now to fix it permanently.
My $800 laptop is now a brick. NEVER BUY HP LAPTOPS!!!!! THEY ALL HAVE DESIGN FLAWS!!!4 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Terrible laptop, terrible company
by hobage on February 2, 2011
Pros: Nice screen quality
Cons: For the second time in 2 years, I just had to buy another $80+ power cord. Very clunky, unreliable, cheap exterior construction. Laptop seems to have a mind of it's own & quite simply cannot be trusted. Neither can HP as far as I'm concerned.
Summary: Doesn't tell you something when a company continually has to "upgrade" models. HP clearly has no idea what it's doing & I will absolutely never buy another one ...

I couldn't be more disappointed that its gone.
by kellieenicolee on January 24, 2011
Pros: I LOVED THIS NOTEBOOK. So much that I have been searching the internet for the passed 2 days, just so I could find a new one to buy. Its got great quality. HUGE screen. And a great keyboard layout. The 500GBhd defiantly comes in handy. THUMBS UP.
Cons: The only thing I really have to complain about is the battery life and it over heats if you have too much going on at once. Not really a gaming laptop. More so for web browsing. Music. Photo editing. Etc.
Summary: KEEP IN MIND. The only reason I must order a new one is because my over weight cat jumped on top of the hp light on the front of the ...
Summary: KEEP IN MIND. The only reason I must order a new one is because my over weight cat jumped on top of the hp light on the front of the computer while it was closed and broke my screen. I had got this pc as a gift last year. It ran perfectly and like new since then. Love this computer. Cant wait for my new one(: -Kelliee

So far to date, worst computer ever purchased
by aaroninphilly on December 15, 2010
Pros: Price. Large HD. Nice looking. Large Screen. About it!
Cons: Overheats constantly. Fans blows constantly. Screen fades away to a snowy picture like a TV. Blue screen file dumps weekly. Blackout shutdowns daily.
Summary: So far, this computer has been returned 4 times, including right now. In July when I picked it up from those Geeks at Best Buy the battery was ajar, but ...
Summary: So far, this computer has been returned 4 times, including right now. In July when I picked it up from those Geeks at Best Buy the battery was ajar, but I didn't notice it until later, and now they won't fix it. They are also saying that blue screens are normal. I have NEVER seen a blue screen before until buying this computer. I have had problems with drivers and speakers constantly and have reformatted three times since the beginning of the summer. I am not computer retarded and I must say this is so turning out to be the worst computer I ever owned. I was very happy with it when it worked, but it was more of a head ache than anything else. HP won't replace it and Best Buy won't replace and they will not fix the battery latch, which is $471, even though I purchased an extended 2 year warranty. I will never buy an H again or give Best Buy my business.

Want a laptop that cracks up by itself?
by foxnetcpt on July 21, 2010
Pros: Love the speed, love the performance, love everything, except the screen!
Cons: I have read numerous post where people say the screen cracks up by itself. It happened to me, and I am so so so disappointed, I'll never buy an HP again.
Summary: This is just one of the many articles : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Display-and-video/Hp-D7-notebook-led-screen-cracked/m-p/295795#M14439

I am so sad, cause I saved to long just to buy a good laptop, and now I'm sitting with a cracked up piece of junk - i bought a good laptop for keeps, not to rack up by itself.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Over 50% Failure Rate
by dlcollison on July 16, 2010
Pros: When they work - they scream. Love the speed, love the screen. I'm a heavy user - developing software and using it to watch video.
Cons: Over the last several years I've purchase 5 - 3 have failed between 2 and 3 years after purchase. 1 - video driver failed, 1 - wouldn't even power on, last one would show the BIOS screen and die.
Summary: Sorry, failure rate is unacceptable - I should have known better, HP reliability ranking on laptops is abysmal, but I loved the look. No more - time to move on ...

Big is not better
by bigisnotbetter on July 8, 2010
Pros: Nice large screen and easy keyboard.
Cons: The mother board fries w/o warning; under 3 yrs old. Used it as a backup, maybe 100 hrs on it. Never dropped. Went to start it up and no power. IT person found the mother board was gone, toasted, died and he had others in the same condition.
Summary: This laptop should be under recall. The mother board appears to be defective. Extremely disappointing. Had been encouraging friends to purchase the same model especially those looking for a full ...
Summary: This laptop should be under recall. The mother board appears to be defective. Extremely disappointing. Had been encouraging friends to purchase the same model especially those looking for a full sized keyboard and large scene for media. Had to retract that quickly and warned a friend who was about to make a purchase on my recommendation. Fortunately for her, the store was out when she went to buy.
