Not for kids? But great for an adult like me

Screen
Ease of use
Fast start-up time
Tremendous sync with all your Chrome/Google stuffCons: Yes, it feels a little too flex-y

Summary: I bought this for my 12 year old son, hoping he'd like it for school, wireless printing, some games, transfer his music collection to Google Music, have easy portability, etc....He didn't love it. Why? No Minecraft, different version (or none) of familiar games, different interface than the Apple/Mac versions he plays with on his iPod Touch, unwillingness to stretch and learn Google Docs, etc...Just not an easy sell to a 12 year old who likes all things Apple. So...I took it back from him (with no guilt; only after he confirmed he finds it more trouble than it is worth to use and is too different from what he is comfortable with)...and...I really, really like it. Boot-up/fast start-up is at least 3 times faster than any Windows or Mac thing I've used, the screen is bright enough, the keyboard is okay-enough, and it is light, ultra-portable and connected with everything that matters to me -- G Mail, Google Music (with over 12,000 songs on it, for me), Google Docs, Facebook, other apps. It prints wirelessly to my Lexmark printer, I can use it to take notes while people are talking (I'm a therapist), it recharges quickly...What's not to like? If you are lucky enough to still find one to buy, get a 3 year Square Trade Warrantee with it. They've replaced/fixed my old Lenovo laptop twice under warranty, with free shipping both ways. Peace of mind. Thanks Google and Samsung!

Great laptop for price!
by GoogleFanBoy on November 16, 2012

Summary: This computer meets the needs of most consumers. It is fast and browses the internet quickly. Almost everyone uses their computer on the internet exclusively. I haven't used any computer in the last 10 years without internet connection, so it was an easy buy for me. Also, Google provides many programs and services for free. There is no need to buy security software or any other misc. programs. Over the life the computer, most computer users will save a lot of money if they learn to use Google's free ecosystem.

Better than tablet for web-browsing but not apps...yet
by scorpiogt4 on February 17, 2013

Summary: When it comes to web-browsing, there are a lot of sites that use flash that aren't tablet friendly. And there are also websites that restrict content from tablets, like Hulu.com. With the Chromebook, you have access to all those sites just as if you were visiting them with a regular Mac or PC.
This computer doesn't have the most powerful specs, but because of the ultra lite operating system, everything works and responds very vast. However, the machine is not invincible and will start to struggle if you open about 10 or more content heavy websites.
My favorite feature on the Chrome browser is the "Chrome Remote Desktop" application. It makes it easy for you to control a computer at home remotely with your Chromebook through the internet. It is easy to set up and it works great (as long as you have a decent internet connection wherever you are). So if you need a powerful machine, you can just use the Chromebook to access and do work on a more powerful desktop on the go. I use my Chromebook to work on Matlab projects on my home desktop while I'm at college.
Of course this machine is almost useless without internet connection, but isn't that true of tablets as well? You can still watch movies, listen to music, and play games that are stored locally on the hard drive or on an external drive.
My main gripe with Chromebook is the lack of applications. I use this machine for college, and I have a lot of content on PDF files to study. The standard PDF viewer in Chrome is very basic. It doesn't let you add comments/highlights or jump to specific bookmarks. Hopefully in the near feature there will be an upgrade or a better app available on the Chrome Web Store.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

An excellent product and far more useful than a tablet.

Cons: Battery life averages only 4 hours, shorter than suggested by specifications.

Summary: This Samsung Chromebook is an excellent value and for non-gaming "power users" a much better option than a tablet computer. Numerous applications including GMail, Google Apps and Music work perfectly well when not connected to the Internet. At $249, it includes 2 years of 100 GB cloud storage and 15 passes to use WiFi on many airlines. In my opinion at least, these included features alone easily justify the cost of purchase. Unless you decide to add an extended warranty, $249 is the bottom line price, virtually all apps are free and there is no need for virus protection or any other form of mal-ware protection.

I Use it For Writing.

Pros: Lightweight. Sharp design. Fast start up. Chrome OS is hassle free. Access to Gmail, Drive, and other Chrome services is flawless. Decent screen. Keyboard is interesting, but useful. 100GB of free Drive storage for 2 years upon purchase.
Cons: Having more than 8-10 tabs open can cause some lag. The touch pad takes some getting used to.

Summary: Google Drive is my first choice when it comes to cloud storage. The Series 3 Chromebook allows me to write and save long form ideas and drafts with minimal hassle. It also works nicely as a device to explore the internet, check email, etc.... The Google alternatives to Skype and iTunes work really well on the Series 3. If you find tablets to be nifty devices, but difficult to write on, give the Series 3 a shot. It's well designed and super easy to use.

I was looking for a lightweight second laptop at my place for my girlfriend. I have my laptop (2012 13.3" MBA), but who lives in a one laptop world anymore? My girlfriend has very little interest in technology. She just wants something to work. The Chromebook boots in 9 seconds, lasts for 6 hours with a full charge, allows her to keep her own profile with her own settings, isn't susceptible to the virus laden world of Windows (don't get me wrong, I still love Windows) and automatically checks for updates every time you login. This was a no-brainer.
She likes it a lot. I have one heard one complaint so far and that has to do with website compatibility. We noticed an issue once when she was ordering a plane ticket. The website requires a callback for the international flight and the necessary pop-up would not work (it was not a pop-up blocker issue). It just wouldn't process the pop-up. One or two other pages wouldn't render properly either. I've seen the latter issue with the Chrome browser on a desktop running Chrome, but the plane ticket problem was unique to the Chromebook.
Beyond that, it's been great. We don't play games on it. It's just a web-browser focused laptop. We use webmail like everyone else, Google docs for the occasional spreadsheet or document. I listen to Slacker for music, she watches YouTube for music videos.
The unit only has 16GB of storage but unless you are determined to try and make this your one and only computer, you'll never notice it. The only thing that really takes up space is media and why would anyone load this up with MP3s and movies? Yeah, you could, but why not just hook up an external hard drive for that to the USB3 port? This unit really hits the sweet spot for a second laptop.
As someone who works in an IT support environment, I can tell you that I am sick of patching computers. I love not having to think about that with this laptop. Seriously. It's a HUGE deal.
I even bought one for my mother who lives in another state. I moved her to Gmail one year ago and it was the best thing I ever did. Now she lives in the cloud, nothing gets lost and the only one who calls with computer problems is Dad (he lives for Outlook and hates change).
Some little things I wish it did?
I wish I could use the trackpad to go back and forth between webpages even thought there's always alt-left arrow, alt-right arrow and dedicated back and forth buttons on the top row of the keyboard.
I wish the ambient light sensor didn't adjust so much. It's slight, but a little annoying at times when you're on battery power. The screen adjusts too frequently for my preference.
The one software wish I have is for a DLNA player for movies and audio. That would be nice. Plex for Chromebook. That would be sweet.
Yes, I wish the screen brightness were greater and I wish the keyboard was backlit. But these's features come at a cost and for $250, this is definite win. -
