On paper, the models in the Sony VAIO CR series look pretty much like any other thin-and-light laptop: they weigh 5.5 pounds, have 14.1-inch displays, and are stocked with the latest components. But a photograph reveals that these are not your typical laptops. With such case colors like sangria, cosmopolitan, dove, and indigo--not to mention optional matching mice and bags with custom engraving--the VAIO CR laptops are more like fashion accessories than everyday tools.
Look inside any CR series laptop and you'll find the Intel's fresh Centrino Pro platform with a latest-generation Core 2 Duo processor, integrated Intel GMA X3100 graphics, and 802.11a/g/n Wi-Fi. The remaining components are typical for a thin-and-light laptop: a 5,400rpm hard drive, in capacities up to 200GB, and 1GB of 667MHz RAM (expandable up to 4GB). Likewise, the VAIO CR series' ports and connections are mostly average for the category, though we appreciate the CR series' integrated 1.3-megapixel Webcam.

We expected the combination of Sony style and solid features to come at a price premium, but the CR series' $1,190 baseline configuration costs about the same as a similarly configured HP Pavilion dv2500t. You'll pay just a little less for the base configuration of that other high-style thin-and-light, the MacBook--but the Mac's screen measures 13.3 inches, and it's built on the previous-generation Intel platform. Style-conscious buyers who want an attractive laptop with a solid mix of components will most likely be happy with the Sony VAIO CR series.

Overall, an excellent computer with a few minor negatives. The screen is as good as any laptop in this range, with beautiful contrast and colors, which is expected from Sony. All the features are top notch, and it performs very well.(Make sure you get at least 2 GB RAM if running Vista.) It is also one of the most stylish laptops around.(I wanted the red, but had to settle for the blue as it was out of stock.) I would recommend getting a matching sony carrying case. The few cons are the hard drive seemed a bit noisy, which may irritate some users.(not a big issue for me). Also, even though the volume is adequate and sound quality is great, if you want to play music loud, you might find that even the highest volume setting won't be high enough. Overall, an excellent and stylish laptop I would recommend.

This is a beautiful laptop (I upgraded to the hilt on all options), they keyboard is amazing! However, there is a major issue with battery connectivity. It's so bad that the computer shuts down/turns due to losing battery connection when just slightly moved (literally has done it multiple times when just opening the screen 1 inch). Also, the laptop runs so hot that it will burn your legs and you can't keep your left hand on the keyboard area due to how hot it gets. Lastly the service is terrible - I even purchased the 3 year ON-SITE repair: which means you wait on hold for 30 minutes, trouble shoot yourself over the phone, they diagnose the issue (OVER THE PHONE), then have to order the parts to fix it (takes 1-3 weeks depending on parts availability!), and then set an appointment for someone to come out and fix it. With IBM - I had them ONSITE themselves doing the trouble shooting and fixing it on the spot with in 4 hours!

First of all let me say that officially the computer I have states that it is a VGN-CR120(Indigo). It has the exact same specs as the CR190(Indigo) but Cnet doesnt list the CR120, so Im assuming its the same one with a possible few minor tweaks (purchased at Circuit City for the price Cnet has listed). I really dont have any complaints except the much needed and absent bluetooth as well as the short battery life. I cant even find an extra or extended battery for sale anywhere. Sonys website does list a VGN-CR190, so maybe an extra bttery is available. If anyone has any info on the model numbers drop me a line.

I bought this about a month ago, the features of the Sony are top notch. Windows Vista (Home Premium) is pretty buggy as it's slow and shuts down for no reason. The Sony build quality is there and is easy to use and transport. The keyboard is easy to see as the keys are well defined. Sony had some good bundles when I bought it so, I believe the value for the dollar was decent. Wish I had a copy of XP though!

First, Don't use their trade in program - I traded in a 1 year old tablet PC and wound up with an offer of $83 for it. (fully functional Toshiba which I used every day prior to this).
If that isn't enough reason not to buy - the camera integrated in the screen doesn't work well. The driver is only supported by Windows Vista as a "Non supported driver" and when you try to make a recording the video and voice are not synced ever. Doesn't matter what application you try to use.
My Recommendation is to find a better manufacturer.
