Excellent mobility and performance in a stylish design

Pros: Extremely light! With Core i5, the performance is satisfactory for day to day business use. Very stylish.

Cons: The internal cooling fan is annoyingly noisy. Everytime it turns on, I can hear annoying buzz. I used to use Sony Vaio and had never noticed the fan noise. 128GB SSD can be consumed quickly if I want to load some movies for in-flight use.

Shipped defective. Toshiba too incompetent to fix.

Pros: The machine seems nice but won't run Windows Live Mail. Hours on the phone later, tech support finally admitted the operating system or hardware was defective. But ToshibaDirect tech support has no authority to approve a return! Neither does sales!

Cons: Just try returning a computer to ToshibaDirect that its own techs admit doesn't work. Not refusal, just incompetence. I'm at 11 calls trying to get it replaced. No one you can speak to has authority. Those who do won't call back and deal with it.

Summary: Every aspect of the experience has been awful, and continues to be awful. I have persisted only because I have a six-year-old Toshiba Portege that has been great.
Most of the problems are due to management, which does not give authority to anyone who actually talks to customers.
1. The sales tax was wrong and the escalation department did not fix it.
2. The computer arrived unable to run software that came loaded on it. Where's the quality control? did they even test it?
3. It took 24 hours of my time with Toshiba tech support and Microsoft to determine it was defective.
4. I had to call three times to get authorization to return it because no one has the authority to do that.
5. Four times, supervisors were supposed to call. They did not.
6. I did not receive the promised email with the authorization number. I had to call again and try to get it from a woman who absolutely has no business working on an English line. The bad quality of the phone line didn't help.
7. Tech support determined the computer was defective yet did not have the authority to arrange a return. That's ridiculous. It took me three more calls and two more days to get an RMA.
8. I still can't ship the computer back because the RMA isn't enough. No one that I can speak to will give me a shipping number; no one with the authority to do so will call me back.
9. The replacement isn't even in stock for two weeks!
10. When other companies ship a defective product, they ship the replacement, and FedEx hands over the new one and takes the old one. Toshiba says it won't even ship the computer I already paid for until the defective one has been returned. ToshibaDirect dumps responsibility for its mistakes on its customers.
11. I finally had to cancel payment with my credit card in hopes that will get someone at Toshiba to call me, so I can return this $1300 piece of junk.
Summary: Management should be ashamed.
Is the computer any good? who knows? it's not available anywhere but ToshibaDirect. Time to look for a different Ultrabook.
