Cons: OEM Battery has only 1.5 hours of usable time. Extended life batteries are available, but at additional cost; only two (2) USB ports.

Summary: For a first time laptop, this unit is very good. As stated earlier ease of use is a plus for this laptop, and this is good for those just starting out. My wife especially likes this laptop. We took it with us on vacation and she had a great time using it. While she likes the 'touch-pad' mouse, she did buy a Logitec USB wireless mouse just because she was more comfortable with it.

As noted by others, the OEM memory size is only 1GB .. we did find it necessary to max out the memory to 2GB. That said, extra memory was NOT that expensice and this is still a great laptop for those seeking a bargain priced unit.
Pros: Great laptop with large screen for under $500
Cons: Battery life, need to have 2GB RAM to run vista

Summary: I really like my Toshiba. I bought it with 1GB RAM at best buy and quickly upgraded it myself to 2GB as I read some review that said it would be faster with more RAM. I haven't noticed a significant difference. I thought it was pretty fast before. I use pretty heavy graphics, multi-media and games and it works great. Very easy to connect to my wireless network. Overall it is a great machine, good size screen, not too heavy, nicely laid out keyboard.
The only cons, the USBs are on the left in the front so when I hook up a mouse and use it on the right, I have an annoying cord running across the front to contend with. Also battery life is around 3 hours max with power save on and about 1.5 hrs if screen is set to bright, etc. Definitely use power cord whenever you can. I have had it shut down in the middle of docs but I didn't lose a thing. As soon as a plugged it in everything was right there.
I would recommend this machine as it is a great price and lots of functionality for the price.

Summary: Honestly, All I needed was a laptop that would handle basic websurfing and some office utilities. I rarely when in airports, and such so battery life was not much of a concern. I found this laptop to be entirely adequate assuming the following: -Increase the RAM to 2 Gigs. (I scavanged this from my old, defunct laptop). -Turn off the Aero features of Vista.
Again, I have limited needs for a laptop. For this price I was very satisfied. If you need more power, or a laptop with longer battery life, then you can do better.

Best Buy had this model on sale for 460 and sold out at many stores....for good reason. I've had it for a month and haven't found a problem yet.
