Bottom Line:: The media-geared Toshiba Satellite U845W has an extra-wide 21:9 screen and Harman Kardon speakers, but no DVD or Blu-ray player. The screen is a novelty act that offers some benefits, but it's really no better than your standard laptop for most uses.

HD crashed after 2 months

Stylish ultrabook good for both work and play on-the-go

Pros: 1. High resolution density (+1 star)
2. Classy style (+1 star)
3. 3rd-gen internals (+2 stars)

Summary: The Pros:
#1. High resolution density. The are a lot of pixels per inch so things look really sharp. It is as good as Apple's retina display. The ultra-wide screen is a good idea for business as well as entertainment.
#2. Classy. If it were a car, it would be a Porsche Cayman Design Edition. It isn't the fastest in its price range, nor does it have the best MPG. But it is beautiful to look at without being too over-the-top.
#3. 3rd-gen Internals. Its Core i5 and HD 4000 work very well together in delivering more-than-enough performance for anything up to moderate gaming. CAD runs well too.

The Cons:
#1. Blocked air vents. A glaring oversight, or an intended design flaw, is that the cooling vents are completely obstructed when the screen is in the open position, so the fan has to work really hard to push warm air out of the blocked passage.
#2. Mushy keyboard. It sucks.
#3. Cheap bezel. The bezel (black frame around the screen) is literally made of cheap plastic, like the material in your wallet that which your driver license show through.

Star Rating:
2.5 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 - 1 - 0.5 = 3
Given an initial rating of 2.5 stars, it secures a solid 3 stars. You can definitely get better specs for this price, but I am a sucker for style so I end up owning one.
