Corel WordPerfect X4 price range: $149.95

The good: Corel WordPerfect Office X4 includes word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, note-taking, e-mail, and graphics applications; supports more than 60 formats including ODF and files from Microsoft Office 2007 and earlier; handles PDF/A as well as OCR in PDFs; strong tools for legal and long documents; security features; upgrade doesn't change overall look and feel.
The bad: WordPerfect Office X4 can be clumsy to learn for those used to Microsoft Office 2007; integration among applications is limited; some functions are hard to find; and it costs a significant amount.
The bottom line: The Corel WordPerfect Office X4 suite best fits those who prefer traditional interfaces for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. We found the features rich, but the execution sometimes clumsy.

Good word processor, I really like the changes.
by rhinegoldwagner on March 28, 2010
Pros: Same stable word processor and all the old favorites I have liked for years.
Cons: Bought the Suite -- though I don't use all the extras, all I needed was the Email program, which doesn't work at all, very disappointing. Tried to get help from their CS center, promised calls back, never got one call back from them.
Summary: Great word processor, but don't bother with the email program, it doesn't work and there is no customer service support. Very disappointing to use this product for more ...
Summary: Great word processor, but don't bother with the email program, it doesn't work and there is no customer service support. Very disappointing to use this product for more than 15 years and I counted on it helping me when I got a new computer with Windows 7 and couldn't use my Outlook Express any longer and needed a new email program.
I had hoped this was the solution, but quickly found out it was not a solution in the least. Sorry to say that Corel support is poor for this product component. -
Nothing more than a glorified update.
by atenom29 on March 4, 2010
Pros: WordPerfect is a fantastic word processor, with more features than MSWord.
Cons: Paying for a so called upgrade
Summary: It is only a glorified update. I could´t find any significant improvements on X3 to justify paying for a so called upgrade, but, as far as I know, it ...

How in the world is MS Word more popular?
by roark3 on February 18, 2010
Pros: Two words--"reveal codes"; if you don't know what it means, you won't understand why people who have tried WordPerfect insist on WordPerfect and laugh at people who struggle with MS Word.
Cons: Corel needs to work on full Windows 7 compatibility. Right now, there is no iFilter for WordPerfect X4 so Windows 7 indexing doesn't work. Fix this Corel!

Still the best word processor available
by dmaddox44 on December 15, 2008
Pros: Reveal Code: it not only shows you why something looks the way it does but provides one-click access to the screens to make changes.
Price: most people qualify for the upgrade price.
Endlessly customizable: Leave it as is or adjust it to your needs.Cons: Some of the conversion results aren't free of error, but I can see with each upgrade that the results are getting better and better.

Word Perfect over Word any day any time

Summary: I have had to use both Word and Word Perfect since 1980 and there is no way Microsoft can better any of their programs that will be as easy and user friendly as Corel's products, and especially Word Perfect. Corel is innovative; Microsoft is not. You have to think with Word, etc., but not with Word Perfect. No comparison can really be made between a slug and a program that is great - Word Perfect. I have both on my computer and just convert from WordPerfect to Word, etc., when I must, but never work in Office if I can avoid it. Waste too much time thinking and too many menus to hop around. I like straight forward programs and Microsoft's stuff is never straight forward. Ugh!

WordPerfect -- what Word will NEVER be!!
by Cymbalzzz on March 15, 2009
Pros: WordPerfect is the defacto choice for serious word processing...always has been and always will be. Comparing WordPerfect to Word is like comparing a Lexus to a Yugo.
Cons: None. None.

Pricey and antiquated for what you get.
by gochichi on November 26, 2008
Pros: 30 day trial.
Cons: After considerable searching, I was unable to setup gmail's outgoing mail server with it. I have successfully set that up with Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Entourage, Outlook 03,07, and MS Mail. This incompatibility is unacceptable.

Summary: I installed Office X4 after having a freak issue with Office 2007. I had some sort of corruption in my registry or something. Long story longer, I had high expecgtations for WordPerfect Office X4. I was really dissapointed. Once I resolved the issue and started using Office 2007 again I fent that it was much better.
Outlook 2007 is second to none. There are a bazillion Windows Mobile phones that sync up with outlook with little effort. I can't even check my e-mail on my computer with Corel's mail program.
Also, a little known "secret" (as far as reviewers are concerned) is that you can change the theme in MS Office 2007 to black, and the black theme is really good looking. X4 looks terribly outdated, the software is remedial, and the price is as high or higher than Office 2007.
I think they would do well to release their software on Linux and maybe even on Apple computers. Right now, this suite is competing out of it's league. Linux users would probably welcome X4 as an upgrade from openOffice, but compared to MS Office it's junk.
It does kind of have a professional appeal to it though, and it probably handles the most file type compatibiilty of any word processor out there.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
