Ubuntu left me in the lurch
by leo-9 on April 13, 2012
Pros: Initial install worked well
Cons: I develop software for a living. Planned to work at home this evening. Tried to boot and Ubuntu hung mid-way. Apparently, cause is my NVidia graphics card. Searched web. Unable to resolve problem. Guess who is now behind schedule?
Summary: Not if you have NVIDIA!

by tbjr135 on August 3, 2009
Pros: It is FREE for one.It is awesome looking and it performs even better. If you want to get into am open source os this is the best one to start,Oh yeah and it's FREE.
Cons: In one word compatibility. You aren't going to do as much as you can on windows but most of the time there is a way to fix it.

Saved my laptop
by rbeach44 on August 22, 2012
Pros: Fairly easy install...solved "glutted hard drive" issues associated with [almost daily] Vista updates. Runs almost all my apps without issue. Much quicker than Windows. File system very intuitive. Like everything about it. Should have done it sooner!
Cons: A couple of apps don't run under Ubuntu but on a second machine this is of no consequence.

Summary: I stumbled onto this OS when searching for ways to deal with hard drive "glut" on an older laptop. Somebody suggested Ubunto and the rest is history. It took a struggling older lap top and literally turned it into a new machine. Hard drive free space went from 15% to 95% and I lost very little function. Open source "office type" apps will read all your MS Office files. Online storage options like Dropbox are built into the OS software options as is Google Chrome and a generic browser called Chromium. Firefox is also available as are several other browser options.

Free, fast, secure, smooth, pretty.
by Temugin1982 on July 30, 2012
Pros: More secure than Windows, cheaper than a Mac (well, 100% cheaper), and as fast as both. Doesn't slow down over time like Windows, doesn't require anti-virus, IT'S FREE, be happy that you are not buying into Apple or Microsoft's world domination.
Cons: Adobe don't support Linux, so no Photoshop. But if you can live without Photoshop (GIMP and RawTherapee do for me), then Linux Ubuntu really is all you need.
Summary: If you can live without Photoshop then save yourself some serious money and use Ubuntu.

Tried it,installed it. It is easy to learn and use.
by askdisky on April 9, 2011
Pros: I find almost all essential features of Windows are included in Ubuntu (version 10.10).
Cons: Feel it takes a bit longer than Windows to load. User interface has yet to be improved.
Summary: Linux based operating systems are becoming more and more popular. So no need to worry, because we can expect versions with added features.

Free, Secure, Fast, Good
by 17zeng_michael on January 14, 2011
Pros: This operating system is the fastest around, it is updated regularly and it is open source. There is no unnecessary application and you can surf the web with ease. Since many applications are not compatible with ubuntu, it is very secure.
Cons: Some Windows compatibility is not available, you can't use WIndows applications on this product. Which takes a lot away, but doesn't mean it's bad!
Summary: I like this because there are really no viruses or malware, so its speedy, and you don't need a anti-virus software because the firmware it runs on is really ...
Summary: I like this because there are really no viruses or malware, so its speedy, and you don't need a anti-virus software because the firmware it runs on is really easy to navigate through, but many coders choose Windows for their malware because everyone has it! Love this product!

Ubuntu is free, and It is updated every six months.
by dhdunlap459 on December 16, 2010
Pros: Very quick to start, works great, and I've had no problems I that haven't been able to fix. It is visually appealing, has easy to use open source software packages that one can browse when you need an app.
Cons: Can't think of a thing!
