Don't look at the lag, the game progress and the amount of maps and you will see a great game!
by mauro_vos on November 23, 2006
Pros: Nice graphics, titan mode, battlewalker, weapon upgrades...
Cons: ...take long to earn. Lag, no offline singleplayer, not very realistic warfare for the future, little amount of maps.

+Nice graphics. -With some bugs.
+Large maps. -But only 6 or 7.
+True Battlefield game. -Not much evolution.
+Extensive commands.
+Very simple interface.
+Battlewalkers.
+Nice bonusses for both normal players and team leaders.
-Takes long to get these.
+Fall of Berlin map. I'm addicted to this map alone.
-Lots of lag and 'wrong connection' messages here.
-Units don't fit in the 22nd century at all.
-Neither do the weapons, the scenery and the 'human' soldiers.
-Lag, especially in tanks.
-"Something is wrong with your connection" message during online multiplayer, don't know why. Really annoying.
-Intel duocore advertisements, in the 22nd century, yeah right.
-Gets borring after a while.
+No spyware or adware at all! I have no idea why some people are writing this. Possibly they have downloaded the game, resulting in spyware or something. Just buy it in the stores, trust me.
+I love the game, through all it's bugs and cons. I just do.
Draw your own conclusions!Updated
-You HAVE to go online to play the game, for registration.
-Game is fun only in multiplayer.
-No true singleplayer missions.
+There is a patch so you can play offline singleplayer.
+Patches are being updated very often.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Don't waste your time / money / disk space / effort
by tsal on November 7, 2006
Pros: Nice layout, graphics somewhat good
Cons: Multiplayer GUI sucks, in game lag horrible, spyware and adware in game itself, doesn't run on all systems

Summary: This game is a P.O.S.. Don't bother, The initial hype should have been a clue as to how bad this one was going to turn out. Basically at this point if you're considering this game, look elsewhere.
The game is laid out so you can have your standard unlocks based on the points system same as BF2, although here is the twist, you can't unlock just weapons, you have to unlock at least 3 items for that kit before you get the weapon, 6 promotions later I've finally unlocked one kit completely. This normally wouldn't be a problem but you're playing a multiplayer game agaisnt in many cases people who have nothing better to do then ***** up points all day. What this means is that you'll be a mediocre level kit, against guys who have super abilities, henceforth, regardless of how good you think you are, you'll spend most of your time dead and frustrated, killed by automatic sentry guns, motion mines, anti-personel mines and the like.
There are two modes of gameplay, conquest and titan. Conquest is just basic caputre the flag. Titan is a capture the flag with a twist. You capture missle silos which fire every 2 minutes, at the enemy titan (big ass ship). When enough missle hit this titan the sheild will go down and you can board it. Basically you treat it like the deathstar, you blow up the reactor control departments (4 of them) then you all pile in and blow up the reactor. If the titan is moving at all, prepare for the lowest FPS in the world, your dual GeForce set up will just die, not to mention your shooting ability which is affected by the moving surface you're on. Oh.. and if you die, and you most likely will due to the aforementioned items above, the moving titan will continue to move while you're body doesn't, so you'll never be revived, and have to board it all over again.
Overall this game looks like its about half finished, although EA in true business fashion just pushed it on out there, and decided to let its customers do the beta testing yet again. Pretty much standard SOP for any tech company these days, so they get a 2 rather then a 1.
I had this game for about a week, gave it all the chances in the world, tried small servers, tried both types of gameplay, tried large servers... the end result was the same everytime, frustrating, crashing to desktop, retarded players you name it.. Overall, this game SUCKS1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

This game is well-made
by lilwienst on April 5, 2007
Pros: Titan mode, competative nature

Summary: If you are looking for a game that is relatively well made, this is it. No it is not perfect, but you won't find many that are. I'm not sure why so many people complain about ingame ads and spyware, thats just not the case. Aside from a few lag problems when playing on servers across the great pond, I have no problems. I think too many people need better internet connections and possibly better video cards. EA has a lot of problems yes, but this game is solid. I would give it a 10 but I find too many servers with punkbuster turned off and people clearly cheat on those servers. Also the unlocks, such as the Voss or the Lambert aren't far superior to the Malkov for instance. Still get pwned by lesser guns even if we start shooting at same time and I am hitting them in face. Yes, sometimes it is my own fault for aiming poorly, othertimes it is not. Basically it defeats the purpose of some of the unlocks. Still a great game, addicting if you have buddies to play with and use Skype or Teamspeak.

Don't listen to the negative reviews

In game ads-
I'm not sure why everyone is so outraged with this concept, especially since i've had the game since day one and have never seen an ad. Even if the ads were implimented, they would be unobtrusive. Claims of spyware are about as true as calling browsing any website spyware.
Lag-
This is Battlefield, you need a good computer and a good connection. My pings range from 10-70 and I have never had any lag issues. If you have trouble, you probably need a better connection or more ram.
Overall, I'm addicted. Get some good friends to join you , use vent. or teamspeak (instead of in game voice) and you'll have a lot of fun. Server disconnect issues are becoming rarer, and patches have fixed glitches and exploits. Oh yeah, and Northern Strike is well worth the money. -
excellent for online gamers

Summary: first of all if you have played battlefield 2 you will notice almost the exact same gameplay with different guns and faster load times. It is extremely addicing, especially since it is much easier to rank up in this game. EA has also added a friends list which is just like the chatting program x-fire. You can join a friends game and message them ingame. Don't complain about lag, you should know if ur pc can handle this game before spending your hard earned money on it.
This game is tons of fun with lasting appeal. GO BUY IT -
STUCK WITH THIS DOG

Summary: BF2, even with it's bugs and continued patches, is a pretty good game. Now EA puts out BF 2142, which is not much more than an expansion pack for BF2. Looks and plays just about the same as BF2, with just a few improvements. Then there's the Spyware issue, that pushes ads into your game in the form of Billboards by spying on your browsing habits. Are You Kidding ME? $50 for this?
I don't think so. But if you want to sell the game once you've played it, forget it. YOU CAN'T. The CD key is locked to your online EA account and you can only transfer it (with all of your EA game accounts) for $30. Again, Are You Kidding ME? This is no way to treat loyal customers. For me, this was my last EA game. -
Beware the patch!!!!! Unresponsive tech support!!!
by galindenba on November 29, 2006
Pros: A good game before patch 1.5 came out
Cons: Patch 1.5 rendered the game useless
Summary: I was really enjoying this game until 3 days ago when I logged in and was prompted by the EA server to install patch 1.5.
Following EA's instructions ...Summary: I was really enjoying this game until 3 days ago when I logged in and was prompted by the EA server to install patch 1.5.
Following EA's instructions for installation altered the game into a form where on-line play was impossible. I then went onto EA BF2142 forums where the magnitude of the problem with this patch became obvious. There are so many forum messages about problems with this patch it boggles the mind. Following the instructions from EA to repair this problem has now resulted in a game that will not even run. Does EA/Dice test these things before they send them out???
I've been trying to get support from EA since this problem started but they will not respond. My guess is that they are so overwhelmed by this disaster, that they can't handle all the requests???

The math is simple and brutal: some will live, most will die. In Battlefield 2142, players choose to fight for one of two military superpowers - the European Union or the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition -in an epic battle for survival. Armed with a devastating arsenal of hi-tech weaponry, including assault rifles, cloaking devices and sentry guns, players will also take control of the most lethal vehicles known to man. Massive Battle Walkers wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic aircraft rule the skies. When taking on this futuristic armor players will need to use their wits and an arsenal of new hi-tech countermeasures like EMP grenades and smart mines to level the playing field. Epic online gameplay for up to 64 players drops gamers on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their team-mates. For the first time in the history of the franchise, Battlefield 2142 will include a brand new game type to complement the classic conquest game. The epic, new Titan mode challenges gamers to destroy the opposing army's Titan - a massive, heavily armored, flying warship - while defending their own. To defeat a Titan, gamers must first take down its shields, board the craft and fight to its inner core before detonating it from the inside. This genre leading gameplay innovation changes the way you play, encouraging both teamplay and strategy in explosive large-scale confrontations. With in-game success, players increase their rank and unlock awards, including new weapons, medals and more, delivering the most comprehensive and flexible persistence in the Battlefield universe to date.
