Summary: On release this was a buggy buggy game. With 1.1 patch release this game was turned into a "typical" bugged game, with the 2.0 patch this game, to all intents and purposes, is fixed!
And what a great game it is! Would you like a game like Deus Ex that has a touch of Morrowind and a bit of Far Cry? You would? Well Boiling Point: Road to Hell is it, imho.
Graphic are just a little shy of Morrowind/Far Cry, which is plenty good enough for me.
The 2.0 patch has optimized parts of the game, so no longer do you need the 3ghz+ processor mentioned in the review. I am playing this game in 1024x768 32 bit with AA and VSnc with a 2ghz processor 512mb ram and a fx5200 card. This is the minimum Atari say you need for the game, but I now think you could have a lesser PC than mine and still run it with more options turned off and a lower screen resolution.
With none of the problems listed above in the review this turns into a very immersive game. The inital load is hardly longer than say the Half Life 2 load, but after that - no more loading at all! With all of the speech spoken rather than text (as in Morrowind) and the quality NPC graphics and mannerisms, this game just sucks you in!
Between the snakes and the jaguars, the jungle is not a good place to start with. As mentioned in the review, if your stats are low don;t expect to be a shooting/driving/smooth talking expert! Having said that, the cars now drive a lot better (although if you have a rickity old car expect it to be rickity - and don't expect 8 lane highways to drive on either!
Most freeform RPG games are fantasy/D&D, (I am a little fed up with dragons and dwarfs personally!) non fantasy games are mostly led-by-the-nose corridor FPS's with "No Brainpower Required", this game should point the way to the future.
With the 2.0 patch BP: Road to Hell is now an excellent game. I would score it 90%. Whether it will get past it's initial buggy release only time will tell. I hope so, for the sake of the genre!
