Addictive MMORPG.
by Black Hole on September 22, 2005
Pros: Very good gameplay, nice powers, good team setups and missions.
Cons: Hmmm, well it could have a better selection of costumes

Summary: Don't listen to the one who said it was "Pathetic Garbage". This game is extremely fun and sometimes addictive- maybe even TOO addictive. Create your own hero and run around beating up the bad guys, who are pretty tough sometimes. Excellent alternation for IM also, because you can meet up w/ your friends and talk sometimes while beating up the bad guys.
I really can't wait for CoV to come out in January.

Addicting, Always New, Fun, Love it
by brownhunter on February 28, 2005
Pros: Great support staff, new content often, plenty to do, many character options, beautiful graphics
Cons: not enough hours left in the day to play this wonderful game... takes sleep away from a normal healthy life
Summary: This is my first MMORPG, and the first computer game in a long time. A lot of players are like me too... new to the genre.

It's so fun to fight the bad guys with a
bunch of other heroes who quickly become your friends. I've been playing for a few months, and still don't want to quit! Either creating another toon who's completely opposite of another, or doing some other goal -- wether collecting all the badges, going on certain missions, or collecting lots of experience, or just hanging and out making friends -- there is plenty to do. Be a hero and come into this world. It's fantastic.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I have played a few MMORPG. I can quite put my finger on why I like this game so much. The game really shines when you group up with other Super Heroes and form a team. To bring some bad guys to justice. A good mix of different type of hero make this interesting. You can form a more permanent Super Group. Which is nice when you need a team. The developers are always updating and changing the game. Issue 5 just went live. New sector and 2 new power sets. The sequel to City of Heroes (City of Villains) just started beta testing. There is suppose to be some interaction between these two games. Player vs player, good against evil. The universities will be open soon where you can learn some skills. The game is what you make it. Never had a bug, server issues, or a problem with customer service.

Fun game for the most part, gets repetitive
by Nerdseyeview on September 8, 2005
Pros: Fast to get into, good response from devs and player forums
Cons: Can get tedious, some persistent bugs have gone unfixed
Summary: In addition to capes which are now available at level 20, you can change costumes at any time, and get a new one at level 20, 30 and 40.
Problems ...Summary: In addition to capes which are now available at level 20, you can change costumes at any time, and get a new one at level 20, 30 and 40.
Problems addressed on the official forums do get read, but do not always get a response. In general, the dev tean is very communicative and when a change is made, they will give the reasons behind it.
So far, each new issue has altered a number of the powersets to the point that all characters are give a free respecification with each one. This is in addition to the ones that can be earned at levels 24, 34, and 44. They also have a server dedicated to testing hwere playes can make changes to see how they work without messing up their live characters.
They have also added PvP in an arena format, and the game will be compatible with the upcoming City of Villains Due out late 2005.
One thing mentioned a few time in the editors' review is very misleading. WHile the tools exist to make a copy of nearly any comicbook hero, doing so is a violation of the CIty of Heroes user agreement, and will get your character' appearance, and name changed. Player tend to be rabid about this due to a law suit filed by Marvel last fall. If you make a knock off, you will be reported withing an hour and you will be changed before the day id out. There ae a lot of "GenericHero####'s" running around.
As for game play, the tutorial takes about 5-10 minutes to run through, and it's optional. Once in game, you can advance to level 5 in just over an hour, or faster in a group. Some missions are repeititve, such as the defeat x number of this villain group. But the story arcs are usually well written, and rewarding for those who take the time to read the clues and follow along.
For the cons, there are some nagging bugs, the most severe of which is the dreaded Mapserer Disconnect. This will boot you from tha game completely. It's gotten better, but seems to affect some people a lot more than others.
There is no player economy. No loot to trade or sell, so no crafting to be done. Just running and fighting. For this reason, it can get old. There are 5 different character types, many are vastly different and can provide enough variety to keep many folks occupied. -
Best online game I've played
by Simalot on March 6, 2005
Pros: Character creation, wide range of options, great community

Summary: My 12-year-old son convinced me to buy this game for him, and it's turned out that I've been the one playing it the most. Tech support has been excellent, and the amount of information available on the web site and forums is unbeatable. Oh yeah, playing the game is lots of fun too. The different areas with many different types of villains and missions makes it difficult to tire of the game.

Freedom Force is better; Play alone too!
Pros:
Cons: Freedom Force has the same superhero design ability and you can play alone
-
To add on to reviewer's comments
Pros: There are now capes, PLUS character auras. Now there are more missions, enemies and zones! Oh and they added respecification for your characters (You can do a respec 3 times for each character). More updates are sure to come, like new powers, vehicles, et
Cons: None - Kinda biased since I play the game religiously :P
-
Definitely a Fun MMOG
Pros: Fun being a Super Hero. Capes are way fun and has provided many many hours of playtime.
Cons: Missions can get repetitive.
