Summary: I own both games, with many hours on this already. The two biggest problems with this game are, first that you are fighting pathetic level 1-10 chracters, then you are dropped in the middle of level 14-18 (a huge difference, with the maximum level being 20 for humans and 30 for some monsters), and second, if you want to play as any of the new professions, Assassins or Ritualists, then you definitely need a character of another class for monetary support because of the popularity of the class, the cost of materials for armor and weapons has skyrocketedUpdated
This game takes away form the original in several ways, namely that you now have to buy almost all of your skills instead of earning them. But some skills, like resurrection signet (extremely useful) you no longer have to do a short quest for, or lightning orb, an elemental skill, you get immediately instead of later (I haven't found it in prophecies, but I haven't looked very hard either)Updated
This game is great, though my original gripe about materials stands, the prices have finally come down to near normal. The best addition to the game is the alliance system (though I haven't tried it), which you can have a confederation of guilds which you can visit the other guild's halls (provided they have one) as well as train for PvP and similar types of play without having to worry about being ranked down (though you could do a similar thing before)Updated
As said above, this game is much faster than the previous, but the new class additions are not very helpful, mainly because the ritualist is a weak monk wanna-be and about 50-60% of the canthan characters are assassins, 70-95% of those are complete idiots (I haven't yet met a competent assassin in any random groups). So unless you want to play as one of the core professions then you have to suffer from weakness or harsh discrimination, so it might just be better to get the original, unless you find a good guild. But if you do find an understanding guild or are content to stay with the other professions or if you have finished and liked the original then this is a good game for you

Not as good as Prophecies
by cle0 on September 16, 2006
Pros: graphics, music, player styles (armour, weapons etc)
Cons: Level up too fast, weak story, too many quests, not enough missions

Summary: I loved Prophecies and was so looking forward to factions but have been disappointed in the fact that you can start a new character and in a week it has topped at level 20 without really gaining experience in playing the game properly. The predominent area of play (Kaineng Centre and surrounding areas) consist of a heap of quests that take you constantly back over the same ground. There are only 13 missions (25 in Prophecies)and the storyline is pretty weak.
I do enjoy playing it, but constantly take my characters back to Tyria, because I enjoy that Campaign more.
I have ordered Nightfall, the next Campaign, and rumour has it that it is more in the style of Prophecies which I will be very pleased about.

Summary: with the addition of the two new classes (Assasin and Ritualist) and the addition of the new map (Cantha) this expansion for the original GuildWars Profacies is not as good as i was expecting it to be. The Only thing i use this part of the game for is getting some of the cool drops and "Power Leveling" any new character that i make. The expansions quests give whopping amounts of Experience making it easy to Level your character to the max level of the game (20) verry quickly. Also right now the games developers are despratly trying to bet people to abandon GuildWars Nightfall and Profacies campaings to come to Cantha. Nusoft is having "Promotion Weekends" by dubbling and sometimes trippling the drop rate at which Mobs or monters drop rare items. I personally think that it is a last ditch effort to try and get players to hop on this difficult to navigate map in hope to bring its popularty up and get some stress off of the servers hosting nightfall and profacies. All in all i bought it just so i could get some of the cool drops and the elite skills that arnt offered in the other versions of the game. I gave this a 5 out of 5

Summary: i found that this is better than the original guild wars because its easier to play when you start out and theres a storage acount in the starting city. the alliances are great, there groups of guilds that are part of 1 of 2 factions that fight each other for land constantly. id recomend this game even if u dont like mmos. this is only my 2nd user opinion.
Great at first

Summary: For a game with a one-off subscription charge, Guild Wars is great. I've had the original since its UK launch, and during the first 2 months I played it solid with my friends.
After the first 2 months the numbers of people willing to play the game had dwindled significantly, since EVE and WOW seemed much more in-depth.
This new version is better than the original, but the character development is so shallow and lacking, that after a while I stopped caring about the game and ceased playing again.
The upside to guild wars is that I have 2 dormant accounts that I can start playing again at any time, and unlike my EVE account, if I don't bother it hasn't cost me anything.
