Fun game, a little repetitive for an RTS game.
by randomfrog on November 22, 2008
Pros: Custom Characters, Variety of Races, Number of Maps, Special attacks.
Cons: Graphics, Unintellingent AI, Corny voice acting, Repetitive, some maps are small and difficult to play on.
Summary: Overall a very enjoyable game for LOTR nerds, however, it is a little laggy during the larger battles, and could have had a longer storyline. Very fun online, but could ...
Summary: Overall a very enjoyable game for LOTR nerds, however, it is a little laggy during the larger battles, and could have had a longer storyline. Very fun online, but could have allowed for more players. If you don't enjoy sitting at your computer screen for long periods of time, then this game is not for you, because the battles can be very long and drawn out, such as the final battle in the Good campaign. Congrats to Peter Jackson for making another Billion Bucks.

Simple as the first, but not as fun
by elrondelf on July 24, 2006
Pros: Simple gameplay; great graphics; create-a-hero; WOTR mode; ship combat
Cons: Glitchy multiplayer; lacking storyline; new building system; not so fun

Summary: It's a good game, but lacks some of the flair of the first; the first was based mostly around the movies, so the player knows what battles to look forwards to; the storming of isengard, helms deep, pellenor fields, and the black gate. The time period this game takes place in was not covered by the books or the movies, so most of the stuff in it is made up. Another problem is the new building system; although heavily publicized before the release, the new system is a pain. You have to save up a ton of money before building, during which the enemy can flatten you. Also, you have to think ahead to leave room for your farms, which can only output well if spread out and kept away from the buildings and rocks and mountains.
The game is a decent buy, but if you have the first game, dont bother.Updated
Oops...in my review i said that bfmeII takes place in a different time period. my bad. it actually takes place in the north of middle-earth at the same time the ringbearer was making his way to mordor. still, that doesnt make it any better. -

by phan000 on March 21, 2006
Pros: war of the ring, campaigns, graphics, gameplay
Cons: need a good graphics card to play on high graphics mode, AI is somewhat stupid

Summary: I love this game. the war of the ring mode is so fun. the graphics are really good, but i recommend you have a decent graphics card if you want to play on high graphics mode. the campaigns are pretty fun, not hard but not too easy. The elves might be a little too good, for in my opinion they are the best race. the game requires quite a bit of memory for a game. 6 gigabytes. It didn't take that long to install though, maybe 10 minutes. If you like strategy games and are a lord of the rings fan, you should definately get this game. I recommend getting the deluxe edition, but if 10 dollars matters a lot to you, the regular game is fine.

Summary: This game is far better than the first. In this RTS you can make the game do what ever you want as far as building up your base. It follows many of the rules of C&C Generals but with alot more stuff to build and do. This is great game for lanning with a really fun, but short single player campaign. I recommend this game for those that enjoy RTS that bring similar gameplay as the command and conquer line does.

Given a new agreement with The Saul Zaentz Company d/b/a Tolkien Enterprises that grants EA the rights to develop games based on the books, in addition to a separate agreement that allows for games based on the New Line Cinema films The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II will introduce players to depths of the fiction never before explored by EA. With all new content from J.R.R. Tolkien's original fiction, delve deeper than ever before and engage in new battles that go beyond the award-winning movie trilogy.
