Exceptional Value, Quality and Portability?
by epictech99 on December 28, 2009
Pros: Great sounding, good projection speakers that are very portable. Diverse range of sound and quality bass tone. Sub-woofer has deep, but yet controlled bass response and the speakers have overall mastery of high and low clarity. Highly recommend.
Cons: None, but there's always room for improvement. They could have made the bass slightly more powerful, but its fine as it is.

-Small size
-Remarkable Clarity
-Full sound
Cons: -Underperforming subwoofer
-Sound can get crowded on busier tracks
-Unimpressive Treble

Summary: For the price, these speakers are fantastic. The subwoofer is quite sub-par, but that is also largely due to the tiny size, which is perfect for dorms, laptops, or crowded desks. The treble is definitely there, but doesn't sparkle. Although tracks sound full and are far from tinny, they lack a discernible soundstage and can get messy on busier tracks. They're amazing for rock songs, but those seeking bass heavy rap/techno or more complicated symphonies may want to look elsewhere; but then again, they shouldn't be looking at this price range in the first place.

Summary: When you are dealing with 2.1 speaker systems you inevitably have to listen to many low quality speakers that have annoying, tinny drivers and nonexistent bass. This one is the exception. The Altec Lansing BXR1220 is perfect for moving up from integrated laptop speakers or speakers housed in your flat panel monitor. The design is unusual and the satellites can play plenty loud. the passive subwoofer gets its power from the amplifier inside one of the satellite speakers, and its adequate for such a low cost speaker system.

Excellent Replacement Speakers
by Slik1956 on May 14, 2010
Pros: Great sounding speakers for the price.Nice mids , good bass. Not headbangers, but a definite improvement over stock desk,or internal laptop speakers.
Cons: The "Power On" indicator light is a bit bright, just set something in front,or a piece of black tape helps. Also the Sub needs a solid surface,as the speaker is uncovered, carpet may muffle.
surface,as the speaker is on the bottom uncovered.
Summary: I thought my stock desk speakers sounded OK,until I plugged these bad boy's in.Wow,finally some bass!Well worth the price, wish I had gotten them sooner!...

Inexpensive good sounding speakers...
by diesel503 on July 26, 2009
Pros: At under 30$ you can't beat the price if you want to hook up a laptop or mp3 player. The sound is ok for the price. Altec lansing makes very good audio products.
Cons: Audiophiles will not care for the sound since the sub is quite small and the speakers are don't put out much wattage.
Summary: If you are looking to listen to your laptop or mp3 player and don't want to spend much money these speakers will do the job just fine.

Great for price, decent sound, quite loud
by BeatleMegaFan on June 7, 2009
Pros: At $25, they're inexpensive. They're small enough for easy placement, and the cables are long enough for various placements. For such small speakers, they give off plenty of sound, and everything sounds great in an enclosed space.
Cons: Unlike their $20 counterpart (sans subwoofer), these speakers require a dedicated power supply rather than using power over USB, but this isn't necessarily a problem. So far, I haven't noticed anything wrong with them.
Summary: If you're in the market for dedicated computer speakers and are looking to save, these are a good option. They can't beat out higher-end speaker systems in terms ...

Summary: If you're in the market for dedicated computer speakers and are looking to save, these are a good option. They can't beat out higher-end speaker systems in terms of sound quality, but the average user may not be able to tell. They can be easily cranked up and sound pretty good for basic things (music playback, videos, etc.). Gotta recommend these for the price.
