The good: Impressive, striking design; subwoofers are built into the base of each speaker, which provides ample amount of bass; more suited to gaming and movie watching than music listening.
The bad: Treble is aggressive and brash; no remote.

High quality sound, great balance
by Border__Line on November 8, 2010
Pros: Look like Darleks.
Clear, crisp sound.
Plenty loud enoughCons: As the bass is 1 inch above the desk and, it can make the desk vibrate at certain bass levels.

Summary: I first bought an altec lansing speaker set in late 90s and they were ace and travelled with me across continents. They eventually broke though and I replaced them with a logitech 5.1 system which was partly for gaming but sounded crap. This new system reminds me of the old 2.1 speaker set that I used to use. It makes listening to music so much more enjoyable. Well worth the money if you are not an audiophile but can appreciate quality.

These sound good, but not good as a real, manly stereo
by TheOtherJeremy on August 11, 2010
Pros: Better than the $25 speakers I had been using. High frequencies are crisp. Maybe these look cool??? I don't know.
Cons: Low-Mid frequency response is weak. Super-low frequencies are also weak.

Summary: There are physical limitations when a 1.5" driver is supposed to carry the mid-range frequencies, and a 4" woofer is supposed to provide the bass. Speakers have to move air, and undersized speakers will never sound as good as full-sized speakers. That being said, if you don't want big speakers, a big subwoofer, and a big receiver cluttering up your space, these are a decent compromise.
The "harsh" high frequencies (really just weak mids and lows) can be mitigated by not pointing these things directly at your ears, or not sitting too close to them.
Buy them on sale and you'll have no regrets. Like I did and do. -

Summary: For 100 dollars, these speakers are great... There's no subwoofer, so don't expect your electronica or hip-hop to boom, but they provide solid base for most music and at low to mid levels, they sound excellent for all music. If what you want is something for the computer in the kitchen, or you don't listen to your music really loud, I can't think of a reason why not to get these.

Summary: I purchased this product on the basis of Cnet's recommendation and some other online reviews. The sound quality seemed good when they worked, but the left speaker was busted on delivery. The sound went in and out. Maybe I got unlucky or maybe the quality of these speakers is not so great. I couldn't recommend this product.
